Re: Soapbox: Publishers Can't Bloody Win When It Comes to E3

@ShogunRok So yeah, that last comment was a bit d*ckish, sorry.

But I do think that your Nintendo comment I think it was hyperbole. I don't think anyone has said what you inferred and if they did that's silly. Its easy to go off topic with that sort of statement, and you should probably know that.

but ultimately all this talk of winning does is fuel destructive behavior that honestly isn't very fun. Where I disagree with you is that the publishers can't win. All of these discussions are them winning. Its all marketing. They actively drive it and Sony has, over the last few years, pushed this behavior more than just about any other publisher.

@ShogunRok I've grown accustomed to seeing people spew hilarious hyperbole on a regular basis - hell, I've done it myself

But what actually makes a good press conference? What convinces us that a publisher is at the top of its trade?

You can't look at the Metroid Prime 4 announcement, which consisted of a title screen, and exclaim "Nintendo won E3!"

@Hordak very much agree with you. Except I quite enjoyed a lot of Federation Force and even loved Other M (gasp!). I'm excited for both Metroids, but also several other games announced. I also think they did an incredible job with the tone of the presentation, the presenters, the Dev interviews etc etc.

Everyone did ok, but I found Sony's pretty monotonous and violent. Mainly I wanted a lot more variety and fun from them.

@doctommaso agreed! I thought the Nintendo presentation was filled with great content and overall positivity. I just think it's silly for the article to make it sound like they 'won' because of a single logo. So dismissive and does not acknowledge the actual value of what Nintendo did.

Re: E3 2017: Ni no Kuni II Is Indeed Launching in 2017

@Flaming_Kaiser But its the Switch - you don't have to!

but I'm not trying to start a war - I'm just so sad I can't spend more tv time, and so can't really keep up with these lovely games. Still haven't played ff15. just started Nier and know it will take months to finish.

I'd equally love this on Vita.

Re: Poll: Has Xbox One X Left You Feeling Green with Envy?

chiptoon

@JoeBlogs For me it would be taking all aspects into account. It would be silly to just buy for 4K. But I have all the non Xbox systems from this gen and last She only reason to buy a PS4 pro is for the minimal upgrade from PS4. For me that is totally not worth it.

But I never had an Xbox before. I won't get an XOX at launch for sure, but with a small price drop its pretty attractive. 4K (I'm soon to upgrade my TV), access to many older games that I've never been able to play, and presumably it will have the same devkit features of other Xbox Ones, and since I'm dabbling in Unity, that's cool.

So it may seem expensive, but it offers me a lot. And in choosing between XOX and Pro, all I will miss out on are a few Sony exclusives in 4k, which look pretty good on my PS4 already.

Re: Reaction: Will Sony Be Scared of the Xbox Scorpio?

chiptoon

Not interested in fanboy wars. What's going to be really interesting is what this means for the real next generation. PS5 and NeXtbox will now have to be substantially more powerful that Scorpio to validate their existence in 3 to 4 years.

Or will there just be more incremental updates?

Re: Sony Temporarily Cuts PS4's Price in Europe to Counter Nintendo Switch

chiptoon

Interesting to see if it works. Most people buying Switch at launch either have a PS4 , or don't want one. Sony will need to do this again come the end of the year, when it will matter more.

In the meantime many of us have chosen Switch and Zelda over Sony's competitive release schedule. I was planning to get Horizon and Nier at launch, but the timing means I'll only play them in June or so. I don't think I'm alone in that.

Re: PlayStation VR Is Dominating the Virtual Reality Space

chiptoon

I just don't see how these numbers can come close to retaining developer interest or be considered a success beyond the level of an experiment. I think VR is amazing, and would really love it to succeed, but i hope they're not relying on the current consumer market to attract developers.

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Really Curate the PlayStation Store More?

chiptoon

What they should be doing is ensuring that information on games is present and correct on the storefront. I find it particularly frustrating on Vita, where even screenshots are often absent.

I also find it weird that they prioritise what is effective the small print info over game descriptions, eg game requires a memory card.
