Re: Rumour: A Remaster of the First Dark Souls to be Announced Today

PorllM

@LieutenantFatman Think of it from Namco Bandai's point of view, Dark Souls is the more popular game with the more well known name, and it's also multiplatform. They can port it to PS4, Xbox One, and Switch in one move, 3 consoles it's never been on. And update the PC version at the same time. That's a lot of new money for very little effort.

A Demon's Souls remaster could only be on PS4 so would make a lot less money for them, and the title isn't as well known in the mainstream either. I still think it will happen but it's probably up to Sony to negotiate with BN. Maybe even to moneyhat. Although I admit if I was Sony I'd have been on top of that a long while ago.

Re: So Middle-earth: Shadow of War Has Multiplayer on Top of Microtransactions

PorllM

This is the right type of micro transaction. They had no obligation to even add the friendly mode, but they did so there is no reason to spend money rebuilding your forces. The only reason you would is if you're planning on taking ranked mode very seriously and becoming one of the best players online. Since we didn't know multiplayer existed until today I imagine there is extremely few people in that boat. If you just want to play online mode for fun and invade your friends you would obviously go on friendly. Also means they've made a new multiplayer mode to contain the microtransactions; and the campaign, which before today was the only possible reason anyone would have bought it and still mostly will be, will be microtransaction free. Complete non issue.

Re: April PlayStation Plus Games Revealed

PorllM

@RedMageLanakyn Nope you're right. Some people are unhappy with the games and say that. Some people love anything they're given and say that. It's a difference opinion like with every other thing in the world and the people getting triggered by it are pretty sad. It's a complete non issue.

Re: This Isn't the Destiny Trailer We Were Hoping For

PorllM

@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Yes it will, just like it was for the first. He said "many" not "everyone". For me personally I'd rather play with the right person who is gonna take it seriously, and I'm lucky enough to have a few online gamer friends, so I have no need for matchmaking, which is what I assume you were getting at? But there are millions of gamers who couldn't care less about that or don't know other people with the game, and they want/need to be able to jump into games quickly without having to hunt down teammates in online forums to make the bulk of the games content playable. To deny them that <[{OPTION}]> again would be a dangerous and ignorant move from Bungie.

Re: Sony's Dropping PlayStation Now on All Devices Apart from PS4, PC

PorllM

Unless they improve the price and library massively this will be the death of PS Now.

The main attraction of it was to play console quality games on your Vita or on the TV without a console. PC gamers won't care about the third party games on there which can be played more smoothly and cheaper on steam. They would only consider subscribing for a few months to play through the first party exclusives. For those people there simply isn't enough games on there to make it a continued subscription.

The thing about avoiding investment into those other systems is bull too, the app is already up and running on all these systems, there is nothing stopping them leaving the app available and not updating it any more, meaning very little further investment is necessary, if not zero.

Basically this went from being a forward looking streaming service that brought Playstation into the 21st century on a wide range of systems, to just being the PS4's backwards compatibility solution, and a pretty bad one at that. Disappointed, I loved the idea and was excited when they bought Gaikai. It could have been huge.

For me, the library and pricing were the only problems with the service. On PS3, most of the games on there could be bought to keep for cheaper. On PS4 this wasn't the case but it was still over priced and competing with the impressive and still growing PS4 library. With a more palatable price and larger collection akin to Netflix it could have been very popular, but at the mo it's very hard to find value in it outside of buying it for a month or two and smashing through the few games on there that interest you.

Re: Push Square to Doubt These L.A. Noire PS4 Remaster Rumours

PorllM

@KratosMD You're right but GTA, Red Dead, Max Payne and to a lesser extent Midnight Club are huge AAA mature games with massive budgets. To port them to Nintendo would incur a large cost that would be unlikely to be made back due to Nintendo's audience.

Bully, Table Tennis and Manhunt were ported to Wii because they are smaller games that could be done very easily and cheaply, and also because they fitted the system (Bully being Rockstar's least adult "full", "open world" type game, Manhunt and Table Tennis being amazing for motion controls). LA Noire falls comfortably into the second category so wouldn't be too surprising at all. Especially if they're porting it to PS4 and Xbox One anyway, and were already interesting in seeing whether the Switch could be a fit for them. Why not add that on too.

Re: Push Square to Doubt These L.A. Noire PS4 Remaster Rumours

PorllM

@Gamer83 If this is real it will definitely be on PS4 and X1 too. The rumour states PS4 anyway, and Nintendo would have many many more important projects to fund before this. I'd imagine if they were moneyhatting Rockstar they'd go for RDR2 or GTA5, anything else wouldn't be worth it really.

Re: Push Square to Doubt These L.A. Noire PS4 Remaster Rumours

PorllM

@KratosMD What the hell are you talking about? If it was just Table Tennis you'd have a point but Bully and Manhunt are more "main" Rockstar games than LA Noire. The fact those existed on Wii means this would be pretty unsurprising.

Your second point I agree with though and I would prefer RDR, or even Bully and Manhunt again before this.

It's kinda understandable that they'd use this though, as an experiment in how well their games could run and sell on Switch. It's probably their simplest game bar Table Tennis and could probably be ported with minimal effort.

Re: No, This Probably Isn't a Teaser for a New Fallout Game

PorllM

Wait New Orleans is in Louisiana, and the quote in the picture invokes judgement day AKA the apocalypse. Is it just me jumping to conclusions or is this blatantly Fallout? If it's not then they're purposely throwing us off, as it's not exactly far away from it.

Re: Feature: 5 Crucial Resident Evil 7 Questions Answered

PorllM

@Gamer83 Being first person and horror is the only thing it has in common with Outlast. Gameplay wise the demo is Resident Evil through and through. Given the fact it is mostly set in a house, the typewriters and storage boxes mentioned in this article, and the Umbrella helicopter teased in the demo, the full game will be even more so. For me personally this is a return to form for the series even more so than Revelations and is the natural way for RE to go. Behind the shoulder gameplay feels archaic and clunky these days and it's incredible hard for that viewpoint to be scary (something the demo managed in 30 minutes yet the series hasn't really managed at all since 4).

Re: Advertising Standards Passes Judgement on No Man's Sky, Says It Didn't Mislead Customers

PorllM

@kyleforrester87 I haven't played Don't Starve much but I think I get what you're saying. A cool way to do it would be if you had to build some kind of transport system in your solar system like a mass effect drive haha. Then you activate it and it shows "systems that can be travelled to" which would actually be your friends list? That would be pretty great.

The way they originally described it was you and a friend could just go to the same place and see each other. But it would be very close to impossible to find where somebody is and go there especially if they are a long distance from you, so that system wouldn't work.

Unless they create a completely new galaxy map and travel system where you can look at any star at the map and just instantly jump there? The possibilities boggle the mind, I wonder if figuring out how to do it was what stopped them.

And yes I agree competitive would be absolutely necessary! I want to to hang with my friend, show each other our worlds, then go invade some random persons world and destroy their ships and take resources from them lol! If it doesn't have the ability to do stuff like that, and you instead just "view" other players without really interacting with them, I think that would just annoy people even more.

Re: Advertising Standards Passes Judgement on No Man's Sky, Says It Didn't Mislead Customers

PorllM

@kyleforrester87 They will update it a lot and make the game much better than it is now, of that I have no doubt, and I can't wait for it. They will want to make people happy with this because if they don't, they won't sell another game.

But is multiplayer even physically possible? The entire traversal system would need to be changed for you to be able to find your friends, it would have to allow for people building bases on their own planets and make them show up the same way to other players, and if they add the multiplayer in the form they originally promised it would be going from a small indie game by 12 developers, to the largest multiplayer game of all time. They would pretty much have to start again on the whole structure of the game.

Please don't take this as hate because there's enough of that on the internet, and as I said before I do plan on buying and enjoying this game. But multiplayer in the form they originally promised, I can't see happening.

Re: Advertising Standards Passes Judgement on No Man's Sky, Says It Didn't Mislead Customers

PorllM

@SegaBlueSky Very good point. Of course I don't advocate any of that stuff especially death threats. For such a small, newish team, the game they created is actually incredible and I'm glad they are having a chance to fix it in the eyes of the public. Just wish Sean could have held back his over excited claims haha but it's understandable really I guess, especially when you're working on something that hasn't been done before.

Ideally trading standards would have made them make an apology and explain why multiplayer wasn't included, instead of internet mobs threatening to kill them and forcing them into hiding. But that's the internet these days I suppose lol.

Re: Advertising Standards Passes Judgement on No Man's Sky, Says It Didn't Mislead Customers

PorllM

@kyleforrester87 You are right about that but we're talking about promises made a month or two before launch, not years before like with FFXV. At that point they would have had a very good idea what the finished game would contain and chose not to tell the truth. I guess it's not false advertising as the box said single player like you said, but it's certainly not something you should be able to get away with.

Re: Advertising Standards Passes Judgement on No Man's Sky, Says It Didn't Mislead Customers

PorllM

"The summary description of the game made clear that it was procedurally generated, that the game universe was essentially infinite, and that the core premise was exploration." The statement continues: "As such, we considered consumers would understand the images and videos to be representative of the type of content they would encounter during gameplay, but would not generally expect to see those specific creatures, landscapes, battles and structures."

But the whole issue was that they promised multiplayer many times and even described it in detail then never added it. Nobody ever complained that the animals and landscapes were different to the advertisements????

I haven't played it and still plan on buying it so I'm not talking down on the game. But it seems like they investigated this from the complete wrong angle.

Re: Don't Even Think About Getting Saucy with the Share Button in Watch Dogs 2

PorllM

Sony have the power to make the Share button not work for 18 rated games if they so wish. Since they didn't do that they have no standing whatsoever to ban this guy. They would have known it had nudity and didn't make any attempt to make Ubi censor it, or make the Share button not work in those instances.

The idea that this player has done something wrong is absurd, and the idea that this picture is more offensive than one of someone getting blasted apart is even worse. Pure idiocy all around from Sony on this one.

Gamers under 18 shouldn't be able to see this anyway unless the parental settings are wrong, or don't apply to shared screenshots, which would be entirely the fault of the parents or Sony respectively, not this poor gamer who simply shared something mildly amusing and surprising they found in a game. Hopefully the news attention will force them to repeal the ban, give them some free PS+ or something, and rethink their priorities in future.

Re: Review: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered (PS4)

PorllM

Lol can't believe there are people thinking this won't be sold separately. That was never a possibility. Obviously they aren't admitting it now because nobody would have preordered IW, that's marketing 101 as shown with every preorder bonus ever.

Re: Skyrim Scores Second-Best UK Debut in Series History on PS4

PorllM

It should be common knowledge by now that Bethesda never talk about games further along than their upcoming releases. Just like Fallout 4 wasn't mentioned until Skyrim GOTY had been out a few months, they've refused to confirm the Nintendo switch version of Skyrim (and rightly so as it may cause people to hold off on PS4/XB1 versions) and definitely wouldn't confirm a new Elder Scrolls at this point in time. All of their messaging and marketing is on Skyrim Remastered for obvious reasons. Once it's been out a while and the hype has died down you can expect them to start talking about Switch Skyrim, and after that, the new Elder Scrolls.

Fallout and Elder Scrolls are perpetually in development and have been since 3/Oblivion. With that said it will be EXTREMELY early in development. They probably went from Skyrim to Fallout 4 to Skyrim remastered, and so full scale development on a new Elder Scrolls would probably only have started recently when Skyrim Remastered went gold. They would have started preproduction long before that though.

All educated guesses based on their previous methods of course, and no sources, but the idea they aren't working on a new Elder Scrolls is not really possible based on their business model.

Re: Evolve's No Longer Going Free-to-Play on PS4

PorllM

@Napples You're not wrong about that but at least you can try different strategies, hit the objective from different angles, even have proper team plays if you have good communication. With Evolve, literally if you've played 5 matches you've seen everything the game will ever offer you.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Switch Knocks the Final Nail in PS Vita's Coffin

PorllM

@DarkFauxeh Yeah that's been rumoured for months and was already known as soon as the announcement was made. It's not directly a shield in anyway but based on similar architecture. Some people are saying the vent on the dock means it could be a Tegra X1 chip which would be surprisingly powerful. Either way the architecture and concept are similar to the shield but the power won't be comparable. At the very least it will be more powerful than a Wii U which already outstripped the shield by a significant margin.

@Expa0 there's probably less than a thousand people in the whole world that would buy a handheld for that reason. And the Switch will have access to Nintendo's back catalogue which outshines Sony's in both quantity and quality. Bear in mind I've had a Vita since launch and still play it. Persona 4 Golden is my favourite game of all time. I'm not talking down on the Vita at all. But the Switch is the natural next step.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Switch Knocks the Final Nail in PS Vita's Coffin

PorllM

@DarkFauxeh Well yeah it's not a home console it's a hybrid, that's the point. It's a handheld first and foremost but you can also plug it into your TV and use a controller for a home console experience. Nintendo had trouble in the home console market with the Wii U now the PS4 has it on lock, but they've always been the most successful in handhelds, so them making a home only console would be pretty idiotic at this point.

The Vita doesn't have anything making it more of a handheld than the switch so I'm not sure what you mean by that. If you hold the switch without the dock, just the tablet with the controller attachments it's virtually the same as a Vita just with a different design and better graphics.

EDIT: Wait I just reread your comment and it sounded a bit like you were trying to say the Switch is not a handheld or a home console, but just a tablet? It's biggest purpose will always be playing video games, and Breath of the Wild is like two generations past anything that appeared on Vita, so that's absurd. Not many tablets have four triggers, two analogue sticks etc. Sorry if I misunderstood you though.

Re: Reaction: Nintendo Switch Knocks the Final Nail in PS Vita's Coffin

PorllM

@DarkFauxeh Every handheld since the Game Boy has flopped? The DS sold 30 million a year for three years. Not even the PS2 or Wii did that. It's the fastest selling handheld of all time comfortably.

Also the main selling point of switch isn't "taking your games on the go" it's having Nintendo's developers be able to make a handheld and home game at the same time essentially doubling their output, and same for our purchasing.

Whereas before they'd have one dev team making a big 3D zelda, and another making something like Link Between Worlds, now they can make one game covering both. Considering the West leans towards HD home console gaming and Japan leans towards social handheld gaming, this is absolutely huge and if it gets a Monster Hunter and other massive handheld games, alongside Skyrim, NBA and other big Western console games, it will be in an extremely good position internationally. I wonder if it will get a lot of JRPG support too with the Vita being dead. If Nintendo are smart they'll chase that rabidly.

Re: Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2 Beta Extended Until Tomorrow on PS4

PorllM

@Tsurii

Ahh so the servers were bad? That explains me not being able to play yesterday.

I started downloading it Friday and it didn't finish until yesterday for some absurd reason (my other PSN downloads are normally pretty quick).

Started it up yesterday and it was telling me servers are offline. I thought the Beta was over and deleted it. FUUUUU

Re: Review: Rise of the Tomb Raider (PS4)

PorllM

@NinjaWaddleDee Honestly the story is as generic as it gets anyway and I wouldn't worry about that at all. However the first one is a fun game and goes for like £5-10 max these days so I would play it first anyway if you have the time.

Re: Review: Dead Rising Triple Pack (PS4)

PorllM

@shonenjump86 Well the majority of players that haven't played DR and still might are on playstation, since most Xbox gamers who want to play it would have by now. Because of that they would have had to remaster it for PS4 anyway, so doing it for Xbox One too was a no brainer. They still could add it to BC aswell I guess.

Re: 'No Plans' For The Witcher 3 PS4 Pro Patch, Says Developer

PorllM

I wouldn't be surprised if they change their minds on this down the line. There is currently a small team away from the main Cyberpunk team working on Gwent. Once Gwent comes out that team could do a pro patch for the Witcher in a matter of just a few weeks before rejoining the main team. The losses would be virtually non existent, when traded against the new people that would/could pick up the Witcher 3 as a result.

People who's PS4 Pro is their first PS4
People who are looking for the best game to show off their graphics on their PS4 Pro
People who were waiting for the GOTY edition of the Witcher anyway.

There's a lot of people that would be potentially pushed into buying by this.

Re: Review: RIVE (PS4)

PorllM

A massive shame that they've closed down. Toki Tori 2 was some of the best fun I've had in gaming in recent years. I was planning on getting their last game just to support them but this doesn't really look at my thing and I have about 10 twin stick shooters I haven't finished from PS+.

Re: People Hate Titanfall 2 So Much That the Dev's Had to Respond

PorllM

How anyone could have a negative opinion on this is beyond me! The controls were like Call of Duty but faster and with smooth free running, and the Titan gameplay was hilarious! Only played it for one evening on the weekend and had so many laugh out loud/"OMG" moments! But like Sammy said I didn't play the first one so...

Re: Hands On: Does PlayStation Now Stream Successfully to PC?

PorllM

I dunno, I reckon there are quite a few PC gamers that are against buying consoles because they love the PC catalogue, but are still interested in certain PS exclusives like Last of Us and Beyond:Two Souls, God of War etc. I'd say it's for people like that, and it's a genius way for Sony to be able to take money from them too tbh.
