While it's not been a great day for Titanfall 2, Bethesda must be delighted with the sales of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. The remaster – which entered in second position on the UK sales charts – secured the second-best British debut in The Elder Scrolls series' storied history, only losing out to the, er, original version of the game released on the PlayStation 3 back in 2011.
This is a pretty impressive result when you consider that the game's five years old, and hasn't exactly received a marketing blitz. And it makes the news regarding The Elder Scrolls VI that bit more baffling, as Bethesda's said that it's not currently in development. Surely there are millions of dollars being left on the table here?

I will refuse to believe it's not in development. I won't believe it. haha.
Hopefully they're liars or other wise they're morons. Here's hoping the big wigs say 'oi, get on it nooowww!'.
Whatever Bethesda is doing, hopefully it's better than Fallout 4.
Yep, I was disappointed in Fallout 4 too. Please give us ESVI...please...please!!
Shame that the mods are probably going to be crap on PS4... I know it's early but doesn't seem like there's any worth disabling trophy's for. Can't put the game down though! Definitely worth 35£!
I really need to play my PS3 copy one of these days.
I like it, just the issue with the screen is driving me crazy...it is just barely off now that I have fixed some other settings. Unfortunately, it is about 5-6 years old, so it doesn't have some of the features I need to fully get the whole picture on my TV.
The mod situation is the biggest dissapointment for the game. Yes its good we have them but the best mods will not be available for the PS4. Currently xbox has over 5gb of mods PS4 has 1gb. Not allowing the use of external assets hinders the PS4 mods a lot.
@dryrain Hopefully morons at Sony will see how well it's selling and pull their finger out
@dryrain
Ya, I had to sell all my multiplats on PS4 and rebuy for X1 because with a 2TB cap, I've barely got the space for exclusives and VR titles much less multiplatorm games too. So I bought Skyrim on X1 being a multiplat and all, and I'm really glad I did just because of the mod situation.
When I was browsing the mods all I kept seeing over and over was "uses external assets, will not be available for PS4", not to mention the 1gb limit and 10 mod limit on top of that. Although by the way it sounds there may not even be 10 mods available yet on PS4. I read an article the other day saying there was something like only 11 mods total... I don't know how long ago it was posted but that doesn't bode well.
Makes you wonder why they even bothered in the first place...
25 hours in, dunno how that happened, hardly feels like 5 or 6. That's Skyrim for you.
It should be common knowledge by now that Bethesda never talk about games further along than their upcoming releases. Just like Fallout 4 wasn't mentioned until Skyrim GOTY had been out a few months, they've refused to confirm the Nintendo switch version of Skyrim (and rightly so as it may cause people to hold off on PS4/XB1 versions) and definitely wouldn't confirm a new Elder Scrolls at this point in time. All of their messaging and marketing is on Skyrim Remastered for obvious reasons. Once it's been out a while and the hype has died down you can expect them to start talking about Switch Skyrim, and after that, the new Elder Scrolls.
Fallout and Elder Scrolls are perpetually in development and have been since 3/Oblivion. With that said it will be EXTREMELY early in development. They probably went from Skyrim to Fallout 4 to Skyrim remastered, and so full scale development on a new Elder Scrolls would probably only have started recently when Skyrim Remastered went gold. They would have started preproduction long before that though.
All educated guesses based on their previous methods of course, and no sources, but the idea they aren't working on a new Elder Scrolls is not really possible based on their business model.
And I still don't understand why. Such an overrated game IMO. Glad people are enjoying it though and yeah, seems crazy they're not working on another one!
@JaxonH there's over 100 as of last night.
@ztpayne7
Well that's good at least. Seems like the list is growing. I see now 4 days ago PS4 had 47 vs 124 on Xbox One. At least PS4 gamers are getting what they can out of it, even if all the big ones from PC are MIA due to no external assets.
@JaxonH oh wow. Just checked and it's 186. Not sure if there are any duplicates though.
@ztpayne7
The bottom line for me is the no matter how many it has it seems like Xbox going to have twice as many with five times as much space and all the best ones from PC that use external assets.
It's just a shame. Because at the end of the day without external assets these mods are going to be extremely limited in what they can do.
Well, if a remaster is selling so well, they can let it be and take the time with the sequel.
So they are being smarter than people credit them for.
