Re: Bungie Confirms Studio Layoffs After Destiny 2 Content Ends

@Northern_munkey Don't you get tired of defending Bungie's (and by extension, Sony's) costliest mistake? Developing, producing, wasting millions of dollars to create the flop that is Marathon? Do you have any compassion at all for the number of people that lost their jobs because their corporate overlords wasted their talents and investment on a niche product with no hope of success.

munkey- is it so hard to admit Marathon has been a disaster that has cost a once-talented company millions of dollars, and its workers countless jobs? Maybe Bungie would be working on a game that the masses enjoy instead of Sony slashing it to pieces.

Again, enjoy playing Marathon with the dozen other people who share your interests.

@Northern_munkey Not many people actually enjoy Marathon, as evidenced by its poor sales and retention numbers. Not enough to sustain the team that made the mistake of focusing so much time and money on it, when those resources would have been much better spent elsewhere.

Glad you're enjoying Marathon though. Too bad no one will be enjoying Bungie-made games for very much longer, and so many people lost their jobs because Bungie chased the dragon and released a total flop.

Seems like everyone is worried about this setting a precedent for future game prices. IMHO this is more of a generational product, existing outside the standard practices of the video game industry. Other companies may carry on with price increases, and most will be disappointed with their sales. So much pearl-clutching and fear-mongering on this site today over this game.

Re: Bungie Is Not Making Destiny 3, Dev to Be Rocked by 'Significant' Layoffs

@Jay767 Too little, too late. While the quality of Marathon itself may be immense, it is extremely unlikely to ever sell enough to make it a success for the company. It may not be a commercial flop, but it certainly isn't going to help anyone keep their jobs at Bungie, hence the downsizing.

I'd look at Marathon if it were on PS Plus Essential but not interested in shelling out $40 for a hardcore extraction shooter with the promise of some P v E mode down the line.

Re: Poll: Would You Be Interested in a Detachable PS5 Disc Drive?

PeteyPiranha

As an owner of a disc version, I like the ability to play a Blu-Ray or DVD in my bedroom in the rare instance my internet is down. I only have two games on disc (NBA 2K21 and RE:Village, mainly due to pricing at the time). The vast majority of my gaming experience is digital, but it is a nice fallback option to have when you need to consume media in a pinch and you're struggling with an internet connection. And of course the entire ownership concept is very much still in play. I just figure in ten or twenty years I won't be stressing this generation's games as much (monetarily and in terms of time-investment).
