Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced promises to plunder the depths of the PS5 Pro’s power when it drops its anchor imminently, on 9th July.
You can read a lot more through here about how the game is taking Edward Kenway’s incredible original adventure in a brilliant new direction, retaining the spirit of the 2013 open world while advancing its gameplay and even adding new narrative content.
But speaking with the PS Blog, Ubisoft has also teased how the title will take advantage of the PS5 Pro – and it sounds like you can expect some serious advancements, courtesy of Sony’s updated proprietary upscaler, PSSR2.

Technical Director Jussi Markkanen teased:
“We were extremely impressed with the enhanced PSSR. It really redefines the graphics experience in console games. It allowed us to render our dynamic tropical world full of swaying palm trees, violent storms, and rogue waves without visible upscaling artifacts, delivering sharp pixel quality and great image stability.”
Nicolas Lopez, a Technical Architect, added that both PS5 and PS5 Pro owners can look forward to significant improvements – but those on Sony’s supercharged system can look forward to a “no compromise” experience.
He explained:
“Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag Resynced pushes ray tracing further across all modes on PS5 and PS5 Pro. PS5 brings more consistent lighting, while PS5 Pro delivers a no compromise experience with advanced ray tracing performance and enhanced PSSR.”
It’s worth noting that the game is being rebuilt using the latest version of Ubisoft’s Anvil engine, which was most recently leveraged to excellent effect in Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
That means you can expect more detailed character faces, better animations, and denser crowds. And with all of the advanced ray tracing alluded to above, you can practically guarantee that the game’s gorgeous oceans are going to glow on Sony’s hardware.
Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag has always been one of our favourites in the franchise, so we’re particularly excited to see it get this glow-up. And we’re especially excited to learn just how deeply the title appears to be taking advantage of the PS5 Pro.
