Sony is on the verge of launching its latest PS5-exclusive first-party game, and every time we see it, we want to play it just that little bit more.
Saros launches on 30th April, the next arcade shooter from developer Housemarque, and it's looking just as aggressive and challenging as its predecessor in this brand new gameplay snippet:
While this new title stands apart from Returnal in various ways, it does inherit quite a lot in terms of the core game and its combat. That basically means Saros is going to feel amazing to play, but that it'll also be pretty darn tough.

This clip, which appears to show a boss encounter (or at least a mini-boss), is evidence of that.
While Saros has been built to be a more approachable game than Returnal on some levels, it looks like Housemarque isn't shying away from making it a challenging game to get through. Look at all those projectiles!
You're equipped with a shield in this game, but that won't always save your skin; it looks like some battles will have you constantly moving to avoid getting hit, with some pretty crazy bullet patterns keeping you on your toes.
The recent Saros previews are well worth checking out if you want to learn more about the game, but we're now just a few weeks out from being able to play ourselves.

I finally got the platinum for Returnal. I've never been more ready for this.
On the one hand, I absolutely cannot wait for this. On the other hand, it had better be a lot more than just Returnal FOR MEN™, otherwise Selene will have died for nothing and died for nothing and died for nothing and died for nothing and died for nothing and
😸
Imagine how great this would be if the developer took time to actually make well designed and thought out levels instead of the algorithm spitting out the same variations on a theme over and over again
@PercyChuggs I've seen multiple previews of this game that say Housemarque built the biomes from the ground up to be more cohesive as a way to address criticisms they got from Returnal.
Housemarque are really good at what they do, I've been a fan since Dead Nation back on PS3. Returnal and Saros give me third person Doom vibes in how frantic and difficult the action can be. Can't wait for this.
I've been going through Housemarque's back catalogue. I did Resogun the other day, now I'm on Alienation.
Got the deluxe version pre-ordered. Very hyped to finally play it.
Glorious bullet hell 😍
@AdamNovice Nice. I reccomend Dead Nation, Nex Machina, and Matterfall.
@PuppetMaster Ohh man, I bought Matterfall few years back and it is more fun to spin disc on finger rather than insert into machine and try to play...
I've just replayed Returnal in anticipation for Saros as well. More pumped than ever.
I finally got the plat in Returnal just last night. Running past enemies to look for rooms that I was missing was probably not the way it's intended to be played, I hope there are no more RNG collectibles in Saros.
Looking forward to jumping into the Tower of Sisyphus expansion tonight to get the 100%.
So ready for Saros now.
Looking forward to this, Returnal is an amazing game. I hope Saros can build on it in a satisfying way.
Definitely not for me! I hated Returnal and felt it could have been a great game. I've learn rogue like games are not for me. They feel lazy and uninspiring. Returnal was my biggest disappointment of PS5 era.
@djlard 🤷♂️
@Propaperpusher I gave it a go for a good few hours but stopped can't remember why as it was years ago. Tempted to retry it though perhaps it's like a fine wine and will sup better now...
I remember buying Returnal day 1 as at the time there were very, very few PS5 only games (mostly PS4 ports) during that initial launch year and I wanted to see what the PS5 could really do.
I was not disappointed and Returnal is still one of my favourite games of this generation, so am really excited to see what Housemarque have cooked for us now.
It's going to be awesome!
Traversal looks great. Hopefully grappling hook is an early unlock like with Returnal
I feel sorry for PC players. All that power and yet can't play SAROS unless they buy a PS5. But look how expensive PS5s are now. Gaming used to be about having amazing fun and long lasting memories. Now? Its all about fleecing loyal customers of their hard earned money, which is getting more expensive every year.
/sorry for my speech. Gaming is for all.
I’ve already got my preorder in and I’m just waiting for it to show up. After how good Returnal was, this is one of my most anticipated games of the year and I’m really looking forward to playing it.
Yeah that mini boss fight does look really good saros will definitely be a instant it.word up son
Not been spoken about much but I'm really digging the score. It sounds so different from Returnals more ominous and tense music and also gives Saros a more arcadey sound with the industrial techno sounds.
You know what the 2 day early access might just get me, when I eventually got to Returnal I had an amazing time playing it (ending up with the platinum) and this looks like a better version of it.
@PuppetMaster All there ready to go
@PuppetMaster Nex Machina is still my favourite game they've made. Everything since and including Dead Nation is great though!
I'm super excited for this but I'm also obsessed with Crimson Desert right now... tough choices ahead.
@PercyChuggs i imagine i could not care less about your statement and will be having a blast while you nitpick what will be a critically acclaimed game
@16BitHero @AdamNovice Awesome! 🤝
Just beat Returnal for the first time since I took a small break for two years or so I'm absolutely pumped for Saros now.
Ah yes, this is giving me huge NieR: Automata vibes. Can’t wait to play!
Graphically it looks great.
But I wasn't a fan of Returnal, so I'm not sure about this one, even if it seems to fix some of the issues I had with the last game.
And it costs equal to $85-$90, here in Sweden...
Maybe if I find a cheaper used copy, in a couple of months, I might at least give it a try. A demo would be nice.
@AnginaPectoris "git gud" can also be said about developers who lean on alogrithms instead of design chops.
Can’t freakin wait!! Returnal remains my #1 favorite ps5 game. Hyped!
@BrotherFilmriss
Yeah, I have yet to hear someone who actually finished Returnal say they didn’t like it. Once the gameplay and your skill click, it’s magic. I’m a pretty average skill gamer FTR. Anyway, what a game. Play it, people. And buy Saros.
