@Blackmagehobbit The spores plot element was changed in this series to make the plot more believable as if the virus was spread through spores humanity would be completely wiped out in less than a week.
Another great episode. Those clicker encounters were every bit as epic as I could have asked for in live action and the ruined city look was phenomenal. You can see where all the money went.
@Constable_What
Joel would have still gone through all the trouble because:
1. At the start of the journey he saw Ellie as nothing more than a job.
2. They bonded over the journey to the point Joel couldn't have the heart to tell her it's all likely fruitless since Ellie wanted to attempt a cure (plus maybe he wanted to believe there is a cure deep down despite knowing or at least believing it's all BS)
3. Figured they were just going to do some tests, find nothing worthwhile then release her back to him until learning the operation would kill Ellie.
Plus even if scientists are still desperately trying to find a cure the rest of society could still just know deep down inside that there couldn't be a cure. Not to mention only a few people know of Ellie being immune, so survivors at large wouldn't even have that modicum of hope. Joel taking Ellie away would have been the official final nail in the coffin of any cure, so yes Joel would have figured there is an element of truth to that lie. Therefore I deduce either he knew there's no cure or at the very least was a firm believer there isn't one. But hey that's just a theory. A game theory.
@Constable_What At the end of the first game Joel mentions that "they couldn't find a cure so they stopped trying" to Ellie. Sure you could just brush that off as Joel lying to Ellie and nothing more, but Joel is also a smart man. He wouldn't tell a lie that didn't have some semblance of truth to it.
@nomither6 I was just using that as an example, you can apply the same to just about any generation. And early 360 games have not aged as well as I thought (many early 360 games also had PS2 equivalents just saying), boosting the resolution only does so much.
@Truegamer79 I see a lot of comments similar to yours about how games don't look much better than they did on (insert console here) until they go back to look and realize those games do not look as good as they remembered. I had that very realization with PS2 games.
Haven't heard of many of these so that's good. Would also have put Phantom Fury on this list. It's a sequel to Ion Fury that's a homage to early 2000's FPS games.
@Octane
The Star Wars films are two and a half hour movies and they still cost at least twice as much as even the most expensive of TV shows. Game of Thrones isn't actually all that CGI intensive other than when dragons are on screen and maybe the White Walkers, even then those shots are used sparingly. West World wasn't that CG heavy either other than the odd scene here and there. It was mostly dialogue heavy human actor interactions especially in the first two seasons. Horizon not only would basically every shot have to be CG to properly convey the world because practical would be logistically impossible, you would also very frequently have several if not in some cases dozens of the things on screen at any one time. It's like doing Rick and Morty in live action, it's a fools errand so just stick to animation. I know people that work as CG animators, CGI is NOT cheap.
@Anthony_Daniels I swear to god i read it was animated but if it's live action that is a terrible idea, the concept just won't work in live action regardless who is behind it.
@Octane The amount of post apocalyptic detail and fauna, the scale of everything, the amount of CG required to do that many convincing machines, etc. It just would be way too expensive to do in live action, especially with regards to TV show length so the only practical way would be animated, which is what the Netflix adaptation will be.
@Anthony_Daniels
Last of Us in live action is one thing but doing Horizon in a live action series would just be straight up impossible so it would have to be animated and HBO rarely if ever does animated shows. I think the last notable animated series they did was the Spawn series and that was all the way back in the 90s. So they probably had no choice but to go with Netflix.
@danlk1ng As an American who has Hbomax and can luckily watch it in 4K, it really pisses me off that Europeans are just inherently getting an inferior streaming experience just because of where you live. Is it not possible to just access it via VPN?
@themightyant HBO is adamant about keeping their episode releases weekly. The CEO made it clear they do not want to follow the "Netflix" release model.
@WallyWest
Neil's scripts tend to be mediocre but he is a very competent director in terms of visuals and pacing and he didn't write the screenplay so I wouldn't be too fussed about that.
@RubyCarbuncle Twitter was never even a profitable company to begin with it was always a giant money blackhole. I'm sure all the higher ups laughed their way to the bank after Elon bought the company and are happy to be rid of that s---show.
Haven't really been able to game much this year due to health issues so Horizon is the only one on this list I have actually played. I need to catch up.
@NEStalgia Pretty much every shooter in the 2000's with even a smidgen of scifi influence was being dubbed a "Halo Killer" so Killzone really wasn't unique in even that regard.
@AdamNovice
Exactly book adaptations have been a thing in movies pretty much as long as movies have existed. Why only is it now with video game interpretations that people scream the usual "Hollywood has no original ideas" statement when there's a whopping like twelve types of stories you can actually tell? At least with games it's a giant untapped well.
@Beerheadgamer82 That and I anticipate the upcoming HBO show will also attract a new major audience so there is certainly incentive to make a third game.
I really don't get all the Neil Druckman hate. Yeah his stories are not for everybody but that's storytelling for you and he seems like an alright guy. Certainly alot less insufferable than Ken Levine or David Cage.
Not liking this one, the combat and traversal is clunky and feels like something from the PS2 days and the environments feel lifeless and I expect the world will be overly large. The Infamous comparison is also a bad one as the Infamous games control smooth as butter and their smaller open worlds are a major benefit.
@Americansamurai1 From Soft today is a very different animal to the From Soft of the 90s and early 2000's. I want to see how much they can improve a very solid foundation.
@theGoodChap I would have been shocked if it didn't happen, the U.S has antitrust laws for these exact scenarios, and it really needs to be enforcing them more.
@ShogunRok Would you recommend this game to someone who likes real time combat but normally doesn't like RPG's? Basically how steep of a learning curve and is there difficulty options?

Re: Colossal Cave Remake Hits PS5 Today, Seemingly Also Coming to PSVR2
Only reason I have even heard of the original game is because it was a plot point in the show Halt and Catch Fire. Looks interesting all the same.

They got Ellie wrong? That scene where she flips off and cusses out the one guard was as pure Ellie as you can get.
