PS5 Pro Is No Longer the Most Expensive Console You Can Buy 1

PS5 Pro is no longer the most expensive console you can buy.

It’s unclear how long we’ll be able to say that, because Sony has been no stranger to bumping the price of its products this generation. But as we publish this, the supercharged system has been usurped by the 2TB Xbox Series X Galaxy Black.

In the aftermath of Microsoft’s price adjustments, the top-line Xbox will cost you $729.99 in the United States. That’s $30 more than the PS5 Pro’s $699.99.

To be fair, in the UK, the PS5 Pro is still more expensive, as the aforementioned Xbox Series X has “only” jumped to £589.99, which is less than the £699.99 Sony is charging for its mid-gen refresh. But when you consider the gulf in power between the machines, they’re much closer than they probably should be.

Of course, as we already alluded to, it’s perfectly plausible PlayStation will end up eventually bumping its prices as well. After all, it’s already done so in Europe.

The company’s quick-thinking means it’s currently shielded from US president Donald Trump’s tariffs, which are having a profound impact on the economy. But that won’t last forever.

For now, though, in the US specifically, the PS5 is looking like outrageous value compared to the competition: a bog-standard PS5 Digital will currently cost you $449.99 – just $20 more than the comparatively underpowered 1TB Xbox Series S.

Wild times!
