@AsterZero if Sony didn't sell the memory cards at such a ridiculous rate, it could legitimately have been as popular as the PSP. Still make it proprietary so that it can't be hacked (that's what they were afraid of, after the PSP), but charge a reasonable rate for one.

@AsterZero they did, really good ones too. The PlayStation Vita carried their studio. They had a lot of exclusives that were fantastic

@AsterZero they published games too, like the zero escape series. They are under the Kadokowa group (owns Fromsoftware). And they have kinda just done their own thing for years.

@AsterZero I like Spike Chunsoft as well, I'd have preferred Atlus had stayed independent obviously but given the circumstances, Sega is just a step below Microsoft in managing studios.

Sony should have bought Atlus back when they were facing bankruptcy. Atlus quality has gone down post SEGA acquisition. Shame really

It's a marketing deal can't be mad about it. Sony did this with call of duty up until the Microsoft acquisition. Hopefully it's worth it for SEGA to alienate their largest fan base.

@LightningLeader idk why you believe this when it's very publicly shown that he made both Indiana Jones and Redfall, which were originally supposed to be multiplat, are now Xbox exclusives.

They can do it, sure, but let's not act like Microsoft, and Phil is some sort of saint in this industry.

Let's also not act like it's surprising Sony is opposing this deal, if next year Sony decided to purchase Take-Two, effectively owning both Grand Theft Auto and 2K, that Phil/Microsoft would not stand in Sony's way to oppose this type of acquisition. Some titles need to remain independent/Third party.

@MaikonCSGarcia you're acting like they didn't fail due to their own incompetence in the console market. They launched a console, an add on to that console, and another console, too soon from each other, destroying their own market.

SEGA always talks about the great support Microsoft has with them, but they weren't the ones who helped Yakuza grow into the franchise it is today. Shame they have such animosity towards Sony.

This is a lot more damning than people realize. Considering Spencer's comments regarding honoring agreements, them being caught in this lie, gives FTC pretty good ammo in how the ABK agreements will play out. Ultimately I do expect Microsoft to win against the FTC, but hopefully this prevents Microsoft from buying out any more publishers...

Most of Sony's large first party studios have at least two production teams.

Even at 6 year cycles, we would likely see a new game from these studios every 3 years as a result. Since they are likely Spaced out.

Not sure when Atlus and Xbox became besties, but sure if it comes to PlayStation I'll play P3 Reloaded, I just finished P3P on PS5, so I got my need satisfied, would be a fun replay.

This has been the most shocking aspect of the saga and frankly unlike other bodies, CMA is highly unlikely to change their opinion on the appeal.

What's more amazing is that they reject Sony's position and still block Microsoft...

Hypothetically considering a removable disc drive has never existed in a gaming console prior, if the patent goes through would Nintendo/Microsoft be forced not to use it for future consoles or would they need to pay Sony to use it, like what is done with part of Blu-ray?

As goofy as this sounds right now, I can totally see future consoles using a feature like this, and not just PlayStation.

@NEStalgia Microsoft has every ability to be a dominant force in the market without buying Activision, they own more studios than Sony pre-acquisition of ABK, they have tons of unused IPs, and so many studios in development hell. I don't see what difference we will see from the new studios that'll join that roster. I do have gamepass on PC, I'm annoyed I can't play my Bethesda games on my console of choice, but at least I can play on my gaming PC.

I agree that deal was off, but rather than renegotiating, on the deal and having it removed like a rationale business, Nintendo let Sony continue to work on it, then signed a deal with Panasonic. It was done to screw Sony out of R&D and it nearly worked, but they wanted revenge and so they stayed in the market.

@Jill_Sandwich Sony only entered the market because Nintendo flexed their muscles on Sony and negged their original deal. They joined our of spite, go watch the original commercials. Very petty by marketing if you remember it.

I can't wait to hear about Microsoft's next purchase in 6 months, I have my money on Ubisoft, they are struggling a bit right now.

@Jill_Sandwich how else do you enter a market? This is an oligopoly, if Amazon ever decided to push it's way in, you bet EA or Ubisoft are on the short list for any acquisition.

I'll always buy retail over scalpers, I had to wait a year to grab a console because of those menaces...
