It will be interesting to see how the games combat is received as I get the point he is making trying to appeal to a wide range of people using modern combat.
However the style of combat at least from the trailer gives my devil may cry vibes (which makes sense considering who designed the combat system) but is hack and slash combat as popular as it use to be with the shift to slower more deliberate combat? (even God of War made the shift to that style).
Like DMC5 sold well but again like I mentioned earlier Square Enix isn’t looking for persona 5 or DMC 5 sales numbers here.
He didn’t say both can’t exist he even said he wanted to continue making them but he did mentioned “expected sales” and that is an important factor here.
Persona 5 sold great by Atlus standards (hell a lot of companies would love those sales) BUT if ff16 sold Persona 5 numbers it would be considered a massive disappointment.
Square enix wants mega sales numbers for this title you just know it. And dropping the combat system is the easiest way to lower the risk of losing potential customers.
@Tharsman yes thanks for clarifying, that’s what I thought. So only games with official ps5 upgrades needs a separate scheme the developers have to implement. Which to be honest kinda makes sense, out of interest does Xbox carry saves over via their OS even for upgraded games? I’m wondering if it’s even feasible.
@velio84 yeah maybe not as Nioh’s combat does the heavy lifting in regards to the games quality the combat mechanics are quite deep, that being said you don’t need to memorise everything I got by just fine not knowing everything.
But yeah if God of War’s combat was a turn off maybe give this a miss, athough nioh 1 was on ps plus who know maybe down the line nioh 2 will be so you can sample it at no extra cost 😇
@Tharsman I thought it was an OS thing but with backwards compatibility? Please correct me if I’m wrong anyone 😅
Since this is a “new title” with tweaks made on the developers end I wouldn’t expect Sony to take that into consideration in developing their transfer system.
However if I was wrong and you can’t transfers via backwards compatibility then I will agree with you
@velio84 it depends on what you enjoyed about those two games in particular.
As they do share some similarities for sure, but if the key thing you liked about dark souls 3 and demon souls was the level design and lore.
You may find this game lacking a bit in that regard as even though it has a rich story it’s told in a fairly disjointed manner.
Where Nioh shines however is gameplay and combat, so if the parts you enjoyed about dark souls and demon souls was challenging bosses etc. You will very much enjoy your time.
I enjoyed dark souls 3, but loved Nioh 2 as the gameplay and character designs spoke to me personally more.
And I wasn’t the type of dark souls player that got lost in the lore 😅
It’s also worth remembering that you can only play the game if you have your subscription, so the people that actually bought it still keep it no matter what so you still have the bigger perk here.
I was disappointed with that game a lot, but still congrats to the devs.
Because clearly a lot of hard work went into it
Looking forward to the next NG game (unless it’s part 3 then I may give it a miss 😂)

Re: Final Fantasy 16 Producer Knows That Its Combat System Won't Satisfy Everyone
@Korgon
Again I think he still may be right there, looking back at the amount of turn based jpgs even in the 90s compared to now.
The genre has become more niche for sure, not to say it doesn’t have an audience but compared to what it use to be it has died down considerably.

@TeapotBuddha
Loved ff7 remakes battle system, to me it felt like an amazing blend between new and old.

Re: Soul Hackers 2 Launch Day DLC Detailed, Includes Bonus Story Arc, Costumes & More
After the multiple Atlus persona rereleases I think I’ll wait a couple years for the ultimate version.

Isn’t that the actress that they used to model Dina in LoU2? (The woman with the yellow jumper around her neck)

@kingbreww
You realise in this case this are just extra stuff, the game was finished.(I played it and had a blast)
Back in the day when I was growing up, if a game was broken it stayed broken, no patches.
And believe me there were a lot of busted games.

Re: Nioh 2 PS4 Patch Adds Cross-Save Support for PS5
@Tharsman that sounds great but do most games use this smart delivery?
Xbox always seemed a bit ahead when in came to online infrastructure lol
