Borderlands 4 is the “most ambitious” entry in the looter shooter series yet, according to a Gearbox post on the PS Blog. The anticipated sequel got an all-new trailer during The Game Awards, and you can watch it above.
In addition to showcasing the new world of Kairos, it also introduces a nefarious faction named the Rippers, as well as antagonist the Timekeeper and his synthetic soldiers, known as The Order. We also get a glimpse of the new Vault Hunters who will feature in the game.
“Jam-packed with more loot than ever, free-form combat and exploration, large-scale boss battles, and unforgettable characters new and old, we can’t wait to show you what the world of Kairos has in store for you and your co-op crew,” creative director Graeme Timmins said. “Borderlands 4 features two-player local split-screen co-op or up to four players online, supporting however you want to play!”
The developer promises there’ll be a gameplay trailer in early 2025, ahead of the game’s launch later in the year.

So this game has no singleplayer at all? If so, hard pass from me. I hope I'm wrong because the game looks great so far.
@Zeke68
It just says the game supports those ways to play, not that it’s MP only. I’m guessing maybe you never played Borderlands before? Solo play has always been an option.
My personal take on the trailer was that it felt a little underwhelming. BL2 is one of my all time favorite games. BL3 did some great QoL things and had fun characters but it lost a ton of steam for me. This is an important entry for me in terms of keeping me invested in this series, and again the trailer didn’t blow me away.
I want to watch it again though and absorb more. One of my main takeaways was the vault hunters looked very uninspired. I honestly considered that maybe they were create-a-characters. The girl with the jacket seemed interesting but that was it, and then that just reminded me of BL3’s main villain so…
I’m eager to see more, either way.
@Veritas7Ax I played Borderlands before, I own them all, but "back in the days" they always mentioned the campaign in some way. So this wording made me worried they ditched it this time.
Edit: According to Eurogamer it's solo+co-op so I hope that's true. I will buy this in 2-3 years when the "ultimate complete collection"-version releases so I don't need to jump back in every 6 months and forgot the controls rofl.
And I hope they make another one for PSVR(2). I loved playing Borderlands 2 on my PSVR1. Or they can simply remaster it for PSVR2 and the new controllers, that would be awesome!
No hate here, but the game looks to be playing it very safe, I think the thing i'm keeping a close eye on, is how good will the writing be, because BL3 was...... interesting.
Bring it on. I love borderlands and more is always welcome.
Seems kinda serious for a Borderlands game, but after 3 thats maybe a good thing
Borderlands games is always fun.bring on borderlands 4.word up son
@Bramble i hope it takes heavy inspiration from BL1
@Veritas7Ax i liked it, maybe it’s good that they play it so safe and all since BL3 was a mess
1&2 on pc with nvidia PhysX and the cell shading art style were ok and fun but during my playtime with the third entry I lost interest and never finished it. Nothing quite like the first time for me personally for most games, I think you have to be a dedicated fan to keep going with each new entry.
Everything looks great and safe...but please just remove flapsnap, he's such an annoyance
I wonder will they get creative this time around for class's/spec.
So, just curious... are we far enough away from the Phantom Menace's release to not mention that Pod Racer that I saw in this trailer, or still too close? Because that was most definitely the inspiration for that vehicle.
Meh looks like more of the same ....and I really struggled to finish 3...had my fill
Looking forward to this one, though two player only couch co-op is a bit of a bummer.
Borderlands 3 was my 'never pre-ordering again' title. Really hope this one hits it out the park, B2 is goat'ed
@Bramble Looks like we're finally getting in to that war they talked about at the end of TPS, so a bit more of a serious take could be warranted.
