Sometimes it’s hard to for us to feign excitement here at Push Square, and you deserve our honesty. So, allow this author a moment to level with you: he thought The Outer Worlds sucked. There’s no two ways around it.
That doesn’t mean the Obsidian developed sequel will be consigned to being crap, though, and this 11-minute gameplay demo debuted as part of an IGN First exclusive gives us our first taste of what to expect.
This clip, which features a full quest in a location called the N-Ray Facility, ticks all the boxes: there’s a bit of stealth, some all-out combat, and lots of looting and exploration. Much like the original, it all looks a lot like Fallout, just with a more vibrant colour palette.

While it certainly looks fine, it’s still not really doing much for this author – although admittedly it’s hard to sell a sprawling RPG like this within the boundaries of a single quest. We’ll obviously be seeing a lot more in the aftermath of the Xbox Showcase later this summer.
