Its a long time and lots of articles referencing physical between now and 2028. I’m sure none of us will be bored of it by then.
Although be interesting to see how it plays out if no reversal and we finally get to 2028. Be fun seeing the drama play out with games like Witcher 4 released as a code on PlayStation. But disc on XBOX
I'll not be selling my PS5 if I buy PS6, so no need for disc to digital there. I want a PS6 handheld, so would be useful for that. But not that big a deal if not available, just some of my games couldnt be played on the go. I already have that situation with the Portal, some games arent suited to the small screen and I only play when on the ps5 proper
With that kind of price tag and likely little actual benefit realised from having a latest gen console, I'll be in no rush to buy it. Probably get it at some point down the line.
But if there is a PS6 handheld that can play games natively, then thats where my money is going
@get2sammyb I think these articles would be a lot better if they included a line or two about what the game is, rather than copying some marketing text that tells you next to nothing. Having never heard of some of these titles a bit more info would be good.
I copy and paste this list into chatgpt and get it to give me a better breakdown of what type of games these are and will pull in any reviews etc. Quickly gives a much better idea if I should be following up and adding any of them to my wishlist/backlog
Security of your account and access to your library is the biggest issue about an all digital future. Definitely something for Sony to work on and much more important than some tweaks to a storefront
Certainly not 8 'musts'. A few nice to haves maybe. And the reselling digital sounds like a joke. The ps store sales are pretty good. I always like to shop about and get a bargain and I usually find the ps store is cheaper than physical. Used to buy some games in CEX but not anymore. Games buy are typically cheaper on a ps store sale. I rarely buy the big AAA anywhere close to release date so im sure thats a factor (always have a big backlog so happy to wait and get the games on a sale and with all the bugs fixed)
I do jot consider Control a 10 hr game. Maybe its possible to mainline campaign in that time but it would be such a waste playing in that manner. Control is a great game so hoping for good things from Resonant
Doubt there will be any true ps6 exclusives for some time so ps5 pro will be a great option for many. Ps6 will end up being a niche product. And I would bet a few quid on it being the last playstation console the way everything is going. PC being the ultimate winner
The type of game that Fable looks to be is more to my liking over a GOW type. But definitely waiting for reviews. The 'British humour' element of it could fall flat and be a turn off
Getting so tired of this rubbish. Physical is dying. Get over it. If you are annoyed with Sony for doing the inevitable then so be it, go and buy Physical on some other platform. Not sure which, but Glad to see you go. Will be saving my money and then splurging on some good digital discounts on week of 23rd August
Wont be playing this Grenade Football but makes me think of Speedball which has a version PS5 now. Must get that, even if only for a bit of nostalgia for playing Speedball on the Amiga some time back
Im no COD fan nor a live service fan, but variety in gaming should be supported. Let people play what they like.
If the argument in this article is that people are having to pay $40 for the exact same game they already own because their original version is locked to an old system and insufficient backwards compatibility, then I think there is a case for that. But I looks like the article has not taken that angle
Digital is fine and lets you play the game which is what most of us want at the end of the day. You will "own" it for a reasonable period of time and way beyond the expected life span of the hardware. Maybe at some point in distant future it becomes unusable, but by that point so what. It will be irrelevant.
This was coming. Most people are mostly digital now so wont have a big impact. And for those deciding not to buy PS6 as a result then fair enough. But where else you going to go in future. Pretty soon none of the big publishers will produce physical media for any platform.
As part of the Bungie purchase $1.2 Billion was allocated for staff retention/bonuses. Could have had Destiny 3 if that $1.2B was invested in developing a game. Instead it was spent on keeping the Bungie "talent" happy.
Im a playstation gamer for a few generations now and never had an xbox. But I agree that xbox certainly should have exclusives to support their platform. It's needed as a differentiator between other platforms, especially when xbox and playstation are so similar these days. I would like to play the xbox catalogue but its stupid to cry and whinge on sites like this if they all go exclusive. There has always been games locked to certain platforms. Xbox should have good exclusives to support their platform and good luck to them, but they have been missing out on that for some time. Making the odd game (and are they even gonna be any good?) exclusive now is probably too little too late.
I feel this is more about EA wanting a bigger player base that they can then try and get money out of during the world Cup, as opposed to any shift of strategy from Sony
@Quintumply Please do some proper research before just copying someone else's reporting and putting it here as news. Their share price is still higher than it was 3 months ago before all this hype kicked off in a big way. Still higher than it has been for some time. Stock markets are volatile. But thats not new information. And not got much relevance to a site about playstation and gaming.
Im pretty happy with my portal. Used to use backbone with mobile phone, but portal is so much better. I think current screen is great. I wouldnt bother paying for an upgrade, even if it included good improvements like bluetooth. It will do the job it needs to until they release a device that can run games natively.
It's fair to call out the full price of these games. We all know that most will be on sale at some point for much lower and can do our own mental arithmetic to estimate what we think we have saved based on individual preferences of games we like. Impossible for push square to tilt the article in that direction. I 'tried' 7 of these games but didnt stick with them. A few more are on backlog and I will get round to them. Best game for me on this list (D4) I had already bought. So not a great year for my taste, but overall im happy with my ps premium subscription. I've had better luck with the extra catalogue.
At this point, if any developer says there was no Gen AI used anywhere in the production of their game, I would not believe them. I would bet they are the ones lying.
Wow, thats a lot of sales. Surely a lot of it is parents buying for their kids or nephews/nieces etc regardless of if they actually wanted it or not. I played it on ps plus, found it really boring. Quit it fairly early into the game, couldn't put up with any more of it. But clearly some people like it.
It's inevitable that AI will take over a huge part of game development. It will do the job faster, and eventually better, than the vast majority of humans. And anyway this is COD, who's playing it for its artistic expression.
As a day one buyer I don't regret it, but definitely a bit disappointed it didn't get more support. VR was always gonna be a small percentage of my overall gaming time. And there are enough games to meet that need. And I've enjoyed some great VR gaming experiences you just are never gonna get if you are limited to flat screen only. Although it could have been a lot better.
But i will definitely be wary of buying anything day 1 from them in future and will wait and see how it pans out first. Rumoured Sony handheld - day 1 buy anyone?
Migrated into PS Plus premium from previously having ps now. Ive never paid the full price, which improves the value it offers. Almost dropped from Premium to Extra last year. Not interested in demos, rarely play the classics, and dont bother cloud streaming to my portal (maybe have a use for this at some point). But they added PS VR2 games, so thats kept me in.
