I legitimately do not know what Kojima is trying to do here. It’s a super serious game dealing with themes of connection and death, and then you’ve got talking puppets and a guy fighting a baby talking robots with a guitar that fires electricity. I know Kojima is known for being eccentric in his games, but this feels like he’s reached a point where it’s stopped being charming and is just weird for the sake of it.

Who would have thought a PlayStation exclusive would sweep the awards of PlayStation focused blogs.

The financial leaks in particular were particularly eye opening.

Wasn’t interested in this, and the leaks only fuelled that disinterest. This thing just pissed off a lot of people.

@Camlambelot I won’t deny it looks good. I mean it better with the amount of money spent on it. It’s too bad the writing couldn’t hold it all together.

This has been a really bad time to be a LOTR fan. First Rings of Power craps all over the lore, and now we have two video games in the running for worst game of the year. Tolkien must be spinning in his grave.

@Tidus_g 2 games? That’s it just 2? Here’s the the ring, of the games you mentioned only one Spider-Man 2, is a true exclusive. The other 2 are on, or will be on PC. Which raises the issue of why even buy a console when everything on it will eventually come to PC anyway. At this point the only reason to buy consoles is brand loyalty.

It baffles me that the PS5 is doing as well as it is. For all the issues Xbox has In regards to software, let’s be honest Sony isn’t exactly doing much better. The amount of big exclusives coming out have slowed to a trickle in recent years. Feels like people are just going to PlayStation because they got a PS4 and that’s what they’re used to. Really hope both companies get their act together so we can get more games coming out.

I hope Microsoft d get their act together and start being more competitive. I know people say they should just go third party but that would leave Sony without any competition which would be disastrous for everyone.

Sony is doing well, if history is any indication this can only end badly.

You know we always see how many units a game sold but I’m curious how much actual money it made. As gaming budgets have ballooned in recent years we’ve seen games have to sell millions of units just to break even. I wish we had more transparency on game budgets. So we have a better idea on how successful a game actually is.

Well there goes my interest in this series.

I think 8 is likely the score most people will go to. From what I’ve read it is good game, but doesn’t innovate much from the original.

@K1LLEGAL that’s mainly because they’re the only 2 studios with anything worth playing on the damn thing.

Not going to lie, I expected a higher score. Especially since other outlets are saying it’s the best superhero game yet.

Oh this will DEFINITELY go over well. Following up a Nintendo Direct on the same day with no first party announcements won’t end badly at all.

It was ok, though it was let down by half the grand finals being Mirror matchups.

@OrtadragoonX yeah and they all sucked. Eddie is the only Venom that’s even remotely interesting. Maybe they can do something interesting with Harry, but it’s 2 we’re not getting a good adaptation of Eddie in videogame form.

So Venom is Harry then. Oh dear, that’s disappointing.

That’s not a good sign for FF16’s longevity. I expected a slight drop in its second week but not to drop out of the top 10 entirely.

@AdamNovice Harry as a character doesn’t really work for Venom. Venom is obsessed with killing Spider Man because he was wronged by him. Eddie’s life ruined by Spider man albeit indirectly, which is interesting since Eddie is the Everyman Spidey always fights for. He’s living proof that no matter what Spidey does some people will slip through the cracks.

Nothing we’ve seen indicates Harry will be like this. If they we’re going to make Harry Venom they should have laid the groundwork better in the first game.

@AdamNovice making Harry Venom is dumb though. Eddie is the only Venom that’s been remotely interesting and I’ve been waiting for a comic accurate game depiction for years.

Honestly, no. It ended strong with Spider Man but it was mostly just mid throughout. It doesn’t speak well when one of the best new things was a teaser for a remake of a nearly 20 year old game.

Not exactly a good sign when this was one of the best reveals at the event

I feel like people are setting themselves up for disappointment. I’ve been through this with Nintendo directs, people expect the world and end up being upset when it didn’t give them it, even if it ended up being good overall.

Need gameplay now! Or screenshots, anything that shows what the game is like.

I’m not expecting much to be honest. These showcases haven’t been all that impressive so far. That said it might be worth watching for third party stuff, we’re defo getting gameplay for the new Mortal Kombat so it’ll be worth it for that.
