Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 424

I dropped $50 on Deluxe Sinking City for this weekend and was pretty disappointed in it. Very janky, empty city with characters and plot that’s hard to care about. Had to check I had the PS5 version, graphics and animation look like an early PS4 game, or even Unity engine (it’s running unreal). So that was $50 wasted, I should have checked the PS5 review here first.

So yeah, just playing a few Switch games instead. Apart from finishing off the last part of Elden Ring, not much going on with the PS5, I’m not seeing anything this year worth getting excited about too. People are still offering $1000 for a PS5 on eBay, so I’m tempted to do that and pick up a new one in a year or two when there’s more stuff.

Elden Ring and HFW for sure. But I’m not getting the “redefines open world games” claim for Elden Ring. Horse riding and dungeon crawling has been the norm for a long time. I’d say Witcher 3 had a better story and characters. Combat not as good for sure as Elden Ring. I guess if you don’t play many games, sure? It feels like a mix of Breath of the Wild, Elder Scrolls and Dark Souls. Wouldn’t say redefines, more like a nice mix.

@Mostik Hi, yep, had the OG Switch and the v2 version, I feel hardware wise, it was a bigger upgrade from the OG switch to the V2 switch (runs much cooler - which seemed to help with the FPS since it wasn’t throttling- and a lot quieter. Plastic turned all brittle and broke on the OG too - probably from the heat), than going from the v2 switch to the OLED. It’s literally just a V2 Switch with a better screen.

The screen does look nice on some games, SMT V, Metroid Dread, Tetris Connect and some 2D games if they’re colourful and use a lot of black. But some games don’t look different- No More Hero’s and animal crossing comes to mind. The larger screen is nice.

If you can get a good trade in price or resale on your old Switch and not struggling for money, I’d say go for it. If money is tight, you’re absolutely better off spending that money on games as you’re not really missing out on anything from a games point of view. And no, not daft at all, no harm in wanting things in your home to match and look good. People harp on about “materialism” a lot, but you know, we work hard for our money and you only live once, no shame in spending it to make yourself happy, not everyone wants to be like a monk and live in a hole in the ground.

3rd option could be to just buy the white dock. Depends if you mainly play it portable or docked. I mainly play portable, but found the Lite screen way too small to be usable.

It was fun. I struggled to work out where to go and get stuck a lot. At the time I didn’t find many matches, but I guess it just took a bit of time for PSusers to get around and download it. I’ve cleared my time for the bunch of epic games dropping in the next few weeks (Horizon, Pokémon, Elden Ring, Dying Light 2) but I’ll redownload it once I’m done with these.

OLED Switch and PS5 user myself. They’re too different to be competing against each other. Nintendo/Switch exclusive games & 2D titles for Switch. Everything else on PS5. I enjoy No More Hero’s and Animal Crossing, Eastward etc but sometimes I want a 3D cinematic game like Guardians of the Galaxy or something deep like Elden Ring, Dying Light 2. Sure, there are some like that on switch (dark souls & Witcher 3) but they’re already old games and now that the PS5 is out with 4K HDR, those type of games are just a better experience on a PS5. So no reason (besides $) a gamer wouldn’t own both.

I was playing Chorus, an amazing space game but got stuck on a mission I can’t get past (gotta blow up a heap of big ships blocking a laser beam) but I remembered why I got over Wingcommander and the like, damn escort missions. Bah (escort keeps dying) so yeah, that’s deleted, which is a real shame, it’s really really good. Anyway, playing Eastward now, fantastic pixel art game.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Battlefield 2042?

HeroYoshiko

Having lots of fun. The graphics are amazing. Shame it didn’t have a campaign- was surprised to find out after purchase. But it’s going to be my go-to multiplayer game for the next year+ so I’ll get my moneys worth. I’ve turned off cross play for now. Hopefully they’ll add a consoles only cross play feature. 128 player multiplayer is crazy fun.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Will Now Offer Free PS4 to PS5 Upgrade, Sony Confirms

I don't have a problem with this. I see a lot of people saying they're going to buy the cheaper PS4 ver and get the free upgrade. Seems a bit underhanded to me.

And I wouldn't have an issue paying $10 for the Witcher 3 next Gen upgrade. I bought it for PS4, it's an old game, if they're paying devs to upgraded it for PS5, I think it's unreasonable to demand it for free. I'm happy to get it for free, but I wouldn't bitch if I had to throw a few coins to the Witcher.

Re: Saints Row Reboot Faces Huge Fan Backlash, Devs Say 'We Are Not Backing Down'

@Mgene15 I think it looks like upgraded Saint Row 3 graphics. But that's fine, that's great, I don't expect or demand people like everything I like. But what I don't get is how some men get so angry over their sexuality because not every character in every game/movie looks like John Cena. 6 likes that guys comment has gotten. I've worked with gay men before, I never once felt like I was going to "hate my penis" just because they exist. It seems to me more like these people have mental health issues and need help, but on the internet, these people get applauded for their brokenness. If you have this much hatred for someone you've never met, just because of the way their born (hair colour, skin colour, sex, whatever), you're the problem, not them.

@kingbreww yeah can't wait to see the graphics of games on the PS5 in 3yrs. The 3D audio in Metro was the first time I've been able to sneak around in a game using only hearing to accurately tell where they (not using sight at all). Was an amazing gaming moment for me. Better than the 3D audio cards like the Aureal 3D back in the day.

@render Graphics and sound still does not address the GAMEPLAY of a Rouge-Like. I'm glad the graphics and sound makes it better, but that doesn't change what I (and the reasons he listed too) don't like about RL game play.
