I'm sad that instead of shutting them down, they didn't just say rebuild Blood and Truth for PSVR2. They could have done the same with Guerrilla Cambridge - KillZone Mercenary for PS4.
Sony makes semiconductors, maybe it's time to add a Memory chip plant. Not sure how many billions that would cost, but if they'd done it years ago, it would have paid for itself.
@Nakatomi_Uk "Copies Wii remote with Playstation Move"
Interesting enough if you look into the history of that, Richard Marks, who developed the Move controllers and the EyeToy, demoed a version of that idea with the PS2, but said the PS2 didn't have enough power for it. https://youtu.be/_PtoxKDcCXc?si=vq5lAsdMNiJ07lWd
Dr Richard Marks Demoing Enhanced Reality with The EyeToy
Haven't watched it yet. But are we sure that Sony actually sold the film to Netflix and not just the streaming rights or contract? Because $20 million sounds way to low. It sounded like Netflix bought the streaming rights (or a contract) to Mitchell's vs the Machines for more and as far as I know Sony still own that property.
Edit: Ah, realised they didn't sell it $20 million, it's $20 million profit, so it's about $120 million that they were paid for the IP and movie.
I would love a Gravity Rush anime. I think just dubbing it in Japanese would be good too. The Gravity Rush language is fine, but when watching the OVAs and playing the second game, I was left feeling the language didn't sound natural enough when rolling off the tongue.
They have quite the library of IP, I'm sure there's lots of great options if done right.
This is sad. Instead of laying off all these extra people, they could have put them straight on to rebuilding Uncharted: Golden Abyss for PS5/PS6. Even if it was a side project, I'm sure that would be a big seller for Bend.
I think it would have been nice to have done remastering/remaking with all the closed studios too. London Studios could have rebuilt Blood and Truth for PSVR2, Guerrilla Cambridge could have rebuilt Killzone Mercenary for PS4 and then their next projects could have been potentially better.
Oh cool! If you have multiple PS5s, you can play them both with the same controller at the same time. What a way to test a couple of TVs to see which is better, with identical playback. 😜
But not quite. Still, not having to resync a controller after hooking it up to a PC is cool. Would be nice if they brought back the wireless adapter too.
@Oz_Who_Dat_Dare "And here I remember being constantly told there was NO SUCH THING AS SECOND PARTY..."
That's an interesting thing. I remember in a post or two, that people were saying there's no such thing as a "Second Party Studio", as opposed to second party game. Which would be different, because you'd be talking about the actual studio and not the game they made. I often think these get mixed up, but not to say people don't discuss what the definition of a Second Party Game is and if it exists. It's just something that stuck with me.
Not what is really being discussed here, but I think it's interesting and if someone else finds it interesting:
Second Party Game: A game funded by Sony to whatever point, but not owned. (Thanks Shu)
Second Party Studio: An external studio that creates games for Sony and the IP is owned by Sony. This is what my definition of a Second Party Studio is.
A Second Party Studio creates First Party Games for Sony (just like a First Party Studio).
Now I've opened a box of worms and potentially started a serious discussion. 🫣 I'll run for the hills................
This is a sad day. Maybe Bend should rebuild Uncharted: Golden Abyss, so they can get a game out there as soon as possible to protect them. That and lots of people haven't played Golden Abyss. It's guaranteed to sell, I reckon.
Good points he makes. I'd also say its exposure was a problem too. I've mentioned to a few people over the years about the Vita and met with a "what's that?"
@get2sammyb @Flaming_Kaiser I've quite enjoyed Horizon and like you say it has an interesting back story. I've found it interesting reading all the in game notes, especially the story behind the Vantage Points, so interesting, could be an OVA or side video story in itself.
SciFi dinosaur robots and a good script and cast and if done right, it'll be awesome. In my opinion of course.
Yeah, I can't remember specifically, but my option for PlayStation Stars (NZ) credit just changed values to a single value, with little or no disappearance and now they have two options now.
So I'd say Sony wasn't really removing the credit options, but just took too long to iron out the system for some regions.
@TheArt Ah yes, the I can I borrow this disc from you "friends". I have a friend who borrowed a DVD (in mint condition) and when I got it back, the bottom of the disc was covered in what appeared to be stew maybe (?). I was horrified and disgusted and didn't expect this from him and the fact he said nothing about it. I only checked the disc a week or so later out of a "better check my disc's condition" curiosity. After that, I thought - won't lend him DVDs any more. The funny thing is too, if that had been me, I would have replaced his DVD. 😢
This looks pretty good and I get to play as Belle, I mean Lana Benton. But seriously, it looks like a mixture of Beauty and the Beast and Spirited Away.
In New Zealand ours has changed to a single $15 NZD for 3,750 points. I think before it was $16 for 4000 points and $30 for 7,500 points. So still works out the same.
Not sure what difference a showrunner makes, but I often think they should just create a media company and gather people that are passionate about the games and can also make good films and TV series and ignore whether they have a network to back it. Just follow the importance of story and connections of the ip and forget any unnecessary requirements.
@get2sammyb "We also have our reservations about who could actually play Kratos – he’s a man mountain, and always looks a little strange in live action."
Could use Christopher Judge and he even said that he wants to do it. Makes enough sense to me.
Seems like it was a bug. Could be wrong, but on my console it was advertising a game something along the lines of "sequel out tomorrow 29 February". I think that was on Final Fantasy VII Remake tile. Unless this is different, but it was the background image.
@glennthefrog Nintendo may have created the market with some of their devices, but for things like the PS Move, there are Tech demos from around the year 2000 for the EyeToy. Richard Marks has in the past demonstrated augmented reality, with balls on a stick and foam wands. One I couldn't find was Sword and sorcery demo, where the wands are used as swords. If you search on YouTube "PSMove is not a Wii ripoff" there is a tech demo there and around the 13 minute point of "Richard Marks - "Interaction Technologies for Game and VR Experiences"" video on YouTube there is another tech demo.
I'm not saying Nintendo copied Sony, but with some ideas, Sony had already done a lot of research in creating similar technology.
I guess I just get annoyed when I hear Sony copied again and all of their past research is just overlooked. I do understand that it is possible Sony wouldn't have released anything like the PS Move, without the Wii, so Sony did follow Nintendo in that respect and Sony has followed Nintendo with other things. But they have done a lot of research for new things. Mind you, not sure about now though. They haven't, admittedly, released anything like the EyeToy lately and Richard Marks has left Sony too.
@WizzNL I know right. Can you imagine these insider leakers before a surprise birthday party: Hey Bob, I just found out that your family has organised a big surprise party for you. They actually managed to get that band you really like to make an appearance. Not only that, Aunt May will be there too, they had real trouble trying to get her in town without you knowing. She's real excited to surprise you, I know you haven't seen her in years. They also bought that really hard to get chocolate cake you like. I've already had a few pieces to verify its origins. It was delicious and they may need to get a new cake, hopefully they don't notice. Congrats, by the way, your nieces bought you the latest PS5 game that you wanted. I've let them know, that you've been told.......
We get a lot of stuff launched at the same time as the US. Not in the same pudding bowl, but I think we (NZ) may have been the first (or close) country to launch Alex Rider too, because Sony Pictures Television produced it, then shopped it out and TVNZ was pretty quick in buying the streaming and broadcast rights for NZ.
You would think that they would also release the first Gravity Rush on PC. If we can get a whole lot more people playing the games, that would be awesome. Maybe Bokeh Game Studio will make a third game if they sell well and are asked.
Hopefully they price it right. But I guess we are still lacking new games and it's sad they shut down studios like Japan Studios and London Studios.
@NotSoCryptic yeah, you'd hope that they did 2280, it makes sense to have that, it's cheaper and you have more options.
I actually liked the back touch panel when it was being used creatively and well, but of course a lot of games didn't do that and just used it as extra buttons or as a gimmick. Would be nice to have extra mappable buttons on the back, some could replace the back touch system, but yes it is a conundrum for keeping games compatible. If they updated Uncharted, I'd love for them to also get rid of the motion controlled log walk. Took me a few times to walk over that and I was left thinking "why can't I just walk over it?"
Would be great to have a docking system and use the Dual Sense controller, along with USB ports, Bluetooth accessories and a rechargeable battery you can replace easily, so you can buy an extra two and then in the future it's easier to replace depleted batteries.
Ah, if Sony do it right, it could be a totally sensational hand held. Dreams....
I'm not really into multi-player, but if it needed just a little more time in the oven, they could have released it as a $5 game when it's ready. Sell it cheap and tell people if it has undeveloped features, that this was the prototype, but some features are not available or fully realised.
Maybe Sony should ask Insomniac to analysis Bungie and give them a nudge in the right direction.
Maybe even create a unit that specialises in meaningful work culture and whatnot. As well as one that might basically say: Would our customers be happy with this product or feature and does it add meaningfully to the user experience. Can be a double edge sword too, I suppose.
It's sad to lose people. I reckon they could at least port the music maker in Dreams to Steam and PS5/PS4 and sell it for a small price. Could be hit. Especially if you can export your music.
@Hydra_Spectre I just noticed this post. 😥 It's always cool when they can get these things right, especially the same actors, now that's cool. Sorry about the delayed response, it'll take a little while for the audio to catch up to the video (silly joke).
I think it would be cool if they released Tren (new Train game) on the PlayStation store and use it to advertise Dreams and make a few dollars for Media Molecule and drum up support for a PS5 and maybe a PC version.
PS5 version is such a missed opportunity. The possibility of vastly larger worlds and assets. Faster storage and more RAM might even eliminate the limit thermometer altogether.
If true, I'm excited. It would be better as an anime (or maybe Spider-Verse animation), but hopefully this likely live action will be handled properly.
They should probably modify the outfit to something more appropriate, especially if they use a young teenager. They can modify the outfit until it doesn't look like cosplay.
If done right a live action film could be good. Alita: Battle Angel could be a good comparison.
And would be awesome to keep the score and soundtrack similar or same.
If it does well maybe Bokeh Game Studio next game after Slitterhead will be Gravity Rush 3.
Well, I'm looking forward to it. Should be good. But I do see the possibility of subtitles reducing attendance. I watch a lot of anime and Korean TV (some Japanese too) and others in my family often miss information, so sometimes what's happening is not clear.
Another solution is to shoot every scene with talking in it twice. First with Japanese, second with English. I know sometimes the magic can be lost or the perfect actor might not be able do it well in English, so it could turn out to be a terrible idea.
Alternatively, for the second shoot, you could work out a script in English and get an expert to create a Japanese script that would use words that would appear to match the English. The Japanese script might not make sense and be weird, but when getting an English dub made, it should look like they are speaking English. Then for fun, you could also release the Japanese (it doesn't make sense script) version as well, providing it isn't insensitive.
I always thought that the movie Passengers could have been a good movie to shoot more than once, but with different actors for each language (not too many versions though, you'd set a budget). That movie has a small cast and lots of CGI and prop sets (I'm guessing) that can be used over and over again. Wouldn't do this with Ghost of Tsushima or any movie that this idea would disrupt its origins or story. But it could be an interesting experiment for some movies. Just a thought/idea.
