So much for "fake narratives" lol
Look. It's okay to say "I personally thought that this show was great." But to claim that general audience don't have expectations they are clearly have is just dumb.
This State of Play was okay. Nothing more, nothing less. Sony did way better shows in the past and probably will do way better shows in future. So I absolutely can't go higher then B, maybe even C. And general audience agrees.
@Titntin Best rated shows are always those who have exciting first-party content. That is the case with Nintendo, that is the case with Sony and also with Xbox. That's why PlayStation's E3 2016 is such a treat. Because they showed God of War, Horizon, Days Gone, Detroit Become Human all in one show. That's why last year's Xbox Showcase was praised. You can say it's "dumb," but it's just true.
"Why even watch it if you dont care for anything other than 1st party, it was clearly stated they would be showing games from their publishing partners?"
That's on Sony. When they had "Showcase" and "State of Play," people were able to manage their expectations. They knew, that Showcase is big show for first-party content. But Sony forgot to make Showcases and started folding first-party content into State of Play format. So people are obviously expecting first-party content in State of Play. And when they are not getting one, they are disappointed. It's not rocket science lol.
Exciting first-party announcements are "creme de la creme" of first-party shows. Pretending like this wasn't a case in the past is revisionism of history. That's why every single Xbox show from 2016-2020 (outside of 2018) sucked so hard. Because while they shown great announcements, they always lacked first-party content.
But it's honestly hilarious that "fist-party doesn't matter" opinions started forming in exactly same time, when Sony started to have less and less first-party content in their shows. To that I will say that best part of 2021 PlayStation Showcase were last 10 minutes when they showed Wolverine, Gran Turismo 7, Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarok. And those 10 minutes are the reason why 2021 PS Showcase is best PS show in last 5 years.
@Oram77 No, they are not. I know that people will bring "showcase vs. state of play argument," but if shows like E3 2016 is A (which is basically gold standard currently), they how on Earth you can give this show anything better than B?
Sony themselves had plenty of way better shows. Not to mention Xbox showcases which were just excellent in last 2 years. Basically, Xbox had more first-party content in their auxiliary show (Developer_Direct) then Sony had during this State of Play. In showcase last year, they had 12 first-party games, not including expansions.
Basically, people are primarily watching PlayStation presentations for new first-party content. And there isn't much first-party content there. So people are not happy. And "cherry on top" was announcement of announcement of Ghost of Yotei lol. I don't understand why Sony just couldn't wait for July and include Ghost of Yotei presentation into one coherent State of Play.
You can't train your audience on first-party story-driven content and then just not show content like that. And if you don't have that content ready, then just wait lol. Nintendo was also criticized for Switch 2 direct because of lack of new first-party reveals.
@ChrisDeku You mean fake story where even Sony execs admitted that they have helped with Black Myth Wukong while mentioning Genshin Impact, Stray and Stellar Blade in same sentence . (all of games being timed/permanent exclusives on PlayStation)
Like, you can talk about "imaginary friends" however you want, but you are hardly beating allegations of some kind of deal, when you are releasing your game on other platform exactly one year after it came to PS5. All while Phil Spencer was talking that he knows when game will come out to Xbox, but he can't talk about it publicly lol (for obvious reasons).
Also, it's hilarious to talk about Paul Tassi's "imaginary friends" when even IGN reporters and Imran Khan (former GameInformer reporter) were talking about some kind of deal (technical support for period of exclusivity). But okay mate.
But it must be a hell of an optimisation work on Series S version that it took exactly one year to be completed
But everybody can reach it's own conclusion obviously.
Who is surprised exactly? Every From Soft game (maybe outside of Sekiro) was technological disaster with poor framerates and technological quality of visuals.
This will be a prime example where "insiders" are doing more harm than good.
When talks about God of War greece spin-off first arrived, many were thinking about Lost Legacy style game built on assets from new God of War games. So while I adore this genre, I think many people will be disappointed by this reveal.
No surprise there. Pascal was heart of the show and when he is gone, there was nobody able to fill that void. Like in game.
Also, Ramsay was just bad casting choice. She was somewhat okay in first series where she was meant to be younger. But she is just not believable at her current role, I'm sorry. I have plenty of gripes with story of second game, but one thing I couldn't complain about was Johnson's performance. But Ramsay is just bad...
Probably only saving grace is that third series is meant to focus on Abby, because Dever was probably best thing about this series.
@twitchtvpat No it won't be.
Jason Schreier (probably best sourced journalist in games industry) literally said that ND showed "early peek" at game and they will not release it in either 2025 nor 2026. So it's 2027 at earliest.

Yeah. Let's make a big deal about Steam numbers when game is also available on
Battle.net (which has huge number of customers)
Xbox app on PC
Game Pass service
not to mention fact that Eternal was released when everybody was forced to stay home during pandemic
But I guess that's too much of a nuance for PushSquare
@SMJ No lol. Not in terms of how you are counting revenue from those games.
Do you think Nintendo counts sales of Metroid Dread or Metroid Prime 4 in different "bucket?" No. Those sales are counted in category of first-party sales.
Yes, you don't own studios that are making those games, but you are usually a publisher and also lended dev team supporting studios that you own (like XDev). It's strange to try to count them in different way in you financial report lol.
@PuppetMaster Intergalactic will not release in 2026 per Jason Schreier. He said that trailer was "early sneek peak" and game will be out in 2027 at earliest.
Wolverine was slated for 2026 per Insomniac leak.
Considering Sony literally cancelled Bend's and Bluepoint's games in January, there is 0% chance they will release something (new) next year.
"Game may get delayed again" is probably biggest non-news story ever. Like...this is true for every game
More interesting part of article is other publishers/devs scrambling and playing 4D chess with guessing what to do with their own games. It's hilarious ngl. Investing hundreds of millions to your new shiny game just to get shat on by Rockstar Games.
Since Nintendo (as a really backwards ass company) literally hop on board to this whole thing with, do you really think Sony would do anything lol?
Sony also wants people in digital ecosystem instead of buying physical (for obvious reasons). So do anybody thinks that they will do anything against that?
Also, it's literally "niche within a niche" problem. Physical sales are dropping regardless and people who will refuse to buy a game if it's not "fully playable from disc" is small percentage of already small percentage of players who are buying physical edition of games. So I doubt Sony, Microsoft, Ubisoft etc. cares at all.
@Onelastgo So it doesn't matter because
1. game cover clearly states that game requires download. So if they don't know how to read properly, it's probably their problem
2. Since they already bought the game, they will proceed to do what is necessary to play it
COD games are doing this ***** every year and they are almost always best selling games during year. So if 30 million of COD owners can do this, I don't understand where exactly is the problem. And impact by people refusing to buy a game because it is not playable from disc is clearly small enough, that publishers don't care.
Bella Ramsey is probably one of the biggest miscasts that I remember. It kinda worked in first season (because Ellie was younger), but in second season I don't believe a single moment she is in...
@Nepp67 Because if they didn't make physical copy, people would bitch more and would result in lost sales.
So they are making minimum effort. Just a few people here and there will refuse to buy DOOM because it is essentially "game key" disc. Same as with Call of Duty, Indy, Forza Horizon 5 and plenty of other games.
Majority of people who are buying this game physically are doing it for purpose of selling the game after they are done or collecting it. Both of those parameters are fulfilled even in this format. Also, majority of people just don't care at all. They see game on shelf, they will buy it and do necessary steps needed to play it.
Let's face it. People who care about physical games and games being complete on the disc are huge minority inside another huge minority.
I would not be against Microsoft porting Halo Infinite to PlayStation 5 even as a gamer who spend 90% on Xbox (rest is PS5). If not whole game, at least MP. MP has excellent amount of content and is in great shape, but is also in dire need of influx of new players.
@get2sammyb FTFY: "Best console version of Gears of War: Reloaded will be on PS5 Pro"
Really not that hard. But since I see that on X you got plenty of engagement where people are correcting you with "PC argument," I expect that this headline is by design, obviously.
@Lukasamba If Microsoft won't make physical version of 70€ RPG game (Avowed), do you really think they will make physical edition for 40€ remaster of old game?
@Fartingale Gears 2 and 3 remasters are obviously coming. Not only because of new PlayStation audience, but also because Gears 2 and 3 are not natively on PC.
But I guess charging 40€ for every single remaster is better for Microsoft than charging 70€ for remasters of three games. Gears 1 remaster probably got priority because it's easier game to remaster (since Ultimate edition already exist) and also to woven PS users into Gears universe since E-Day is coming.
@thefourfoldroot1 I tend to lean towards games that don't have 30+ hours runtime, which allows me to try more games. With exceptions of course. This year I completed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Balatro (ie. I'm done with game), Eternal Strands, Hellblade 2, Remnant 2, Avowed, South of Midnight, God of War Ragnarok. Which is not bad at all...
@thefourfoldroot1 Outside of GTA/RDR2 I have never seen a game that was in Game Pass for less than a year. So if you won't find time in year to play Expedition 33, then you probably won't play it ever. And I'm talking about year at minimum. Majority of games are in subscription for way longer.
This "I'm feeling pressure to play" is kinda strange. Outside of fact that every Game Pass game leaving service gives you 20% discount to own it, there is plenty of time for players to play it.
That's just obvious truth.
As a Game Pass and PS Plus subscriber I can tell you that I have no problem to stop playing a game if I don't find it enjoyable.
But if I bought that game, I'm often going through even if I'm not having fun just to "get my money's worth."
So it's obvious that when people have easy access to Expedition 33, many more people will try it, but lower percentage of players will actually finish it. Because you have no pressure to finish it if you won't find it fun.
I personally started to play Expedition 33 through Game Pass, but it was also released in same week as Oblivion. So I had to split my time between both with DOOM looming on horizon.
@Vectrex PC parts were also affordable in past. I remember buying mid-range GPU for 180€ not that long ago. Nowadays "mid range" starts at 400€ lol.
CPU are also more expensive as are motherboards. Basically only components that can be comparable to the past price-wise are RAM modules and NVMe SSD which decreased in price in recent years.
But my point wasn't "PC vs. consoles" but fact that people are reacting on price hikes of consoles with "glad I built a PC." Ignoring the fact that PC components are also getting price hikes.
@dardel I honestly don't get those "glad I build a PC." Aren't PC components also getting ridiculosly expensive nowadays? I remember times when high-end GPU cost 700$ max. Now high-end GPU cost 1500$ lol.
@HOWARDSROCK Bro. I doubt that my PS5 will even work in 20-25 years .
But if it will work I will do the basic thing. Install my digital copy of a game which will be probably downloaded 10x faster than installing it from a disc lol. But if you think Sony will shut down their store then okay
And btw. I already have kids. They will be hitting 30s in 25 years of time
@gomersoul If you priced it at 30€/$ you would need to sell twice the copies to have same amount of revenue. I don't think they would magically sold twice the amount of copies to compensate.
Microsoft's approach makes perfect sense from business standpoint. Give it full price tag, catch as many people as you can and then catch the rest with discounts during the year. Unless they have FH6 this year(which I doubt), which would probably kill sales of FH5, they have all the time in the world.
@Jrs1 I wouldn't bet on it. DOOM is extremely popular on PC, so I would not be surprised if PC version was best seller. Also, it would be strange if PS5 version didn't sold better since PS5 have 2x audience that Xbox have.
That trailer wasn't really strange. Xbox peeps knows that they have Xbox players in pocket ready to play Doom. So they don't really have to market to them hard. Also, they just released two controllers and Series X wrap.
PS audience? That's probably place where you need to remind people that game is coming.
@MrPeanutbutterz I still don't get why are you talking about Game Pass in corelation with Halo Infinite MP, since that was free to play lol.
8€ kitty ears was during release most popular item in shop. ie., they charged that much, because they knew people will buy it. It's basic pricinple behind pricing of in-game shop. That's why Blackcell skins in COD cost that much. Because Activision know they are desirable. I mean, I don't care that much about cosmetic stuff in games, but to be outraged by it is baffling, since prices in H:I are basically same as other free-to-play or even non-free to play games on market.
They would monetize MP even if they were requiring purchase. It literally had nothing to do. In year of our lord 2025, if you want to have your live service game support, MTX are just there whether you like it or not. They are in paid games, they are in free games. Helldivers have MTXs and that was 40€ game. Concord was supposed to have MTXs and that was 40€ game. Even if Game Pass would not exist and Halo Infinite was launched as full priced game, MTXs in MP would be there. May I remind you that Halo 5 was released before GP and had MTXs? That Gears 5 didn't have truly F2P component but had MTXs? It's almost like Game Pass have nothing to do with fact that Halo Infinite had MTXs . I'm sure Game Pass is also responsible that COD have MTXs
It's funny that we are talking about Game Pass as a "pox upon industry" when company that don't have "Game Pass" was chasing live service dragon in last five years lol. And in industry, where most played games are free to play where people are conditioned to get stuff for free. But Game Pass is problem, for sure
@Rich33 That's just wrong.
Your point about first-party stuff would be probably valid if not for the fact that Microsoft is also selling all first-party games. So If their games were only available through sub service, I would maybe dig into theory that they "stopped developing Redfall" and released it just as is because of subscription service. But that's not the case. Every first-party Xbox game is also sold through Xbox store or Steam. So it's in Microsoft's best interest to provide as high quality as they can.
Every publisher have their flops, including Sony and not many of them have subscription services. So I failed to see corelation. Halo is even worse example, because MP was F2P - hence it didn't need subscription to access.
Xbox "is forced" to release games on PS5 not because of Game Pass, but because they like money and wants more. And they found out that people are so entrenched in PS ecosystem, that it's impossible to get them out of there. So it is "If the mountain will not come to Muhammad, then Muhammad must go to the mountain."
Third-party deals are about money at the end of the day. Talking about "lack of faith in game" is pretty dumb, because in this day you can create quality game, that won't get proper attention. I'm sure Firewalk and Sony had a lot of faith in Concord. How exactly did "faith" helped them? If Microsoft came to Rockstar and said "we will give you 5 billion for GTA VI in Game Pass" and Rockstar said "yes," does that mean that Rockstar has no faith in GTA VI? No. It just mean that offer from Microsoft was high enough for them to say "it's worth it." It's all about logical business sense and money. Not about "lack of faith."
Do you think when Epic Games offered 100 million to Take-Two for timed exclusivity of Borderlands 3 on Epic Games Store, Take-Two took that deal because they were afraid that B3 won't sell much lol?
To conclude this: Deciding if game is good/bad based on if it is in subscription gaming is dumb. But saying that in month when we got two best rated games this year launched into subscription is probably even dumber. Because inclusion in subscription is about business. But it is true that if you are sure, you can get high amount of sales, you can obviously ask for more money from Microsoft/Sony.
@MrPeanutbutterz Mate, if Microsoft cancelled Redfall (as they should) all the internet would be "bruh, they didn't learn from Scalebound." Or "they just bought them and they are already cancelling games?" It's "damned if you do, damned if you don't" situation.
Halo Infinite's multiplayer was F2P because Microsoft recognized saturation of PvP sector (hello to Sony and Concord) and figured out that only way to ensure stable population when you are fighting against COD, Fortnite etc. is to have F2P release. Not sure what it has to do with subscription services but I digress. Because you don't need sub to play F2P games mate...
Halo Infinite's MP was strongly praised during it's launched. Problem was that 343 wasn't prepared for live service aspect of it. Instead of 3 months seasons, they had 6 months season which killed interest in the game and by the time they started churning out content, people moved on. So blame was on clusterf***** development of game, not subscription service. Hence why Microsoft purged senior leadership at the studio and renamed it to Halo Studios.
@Rich33 What kind of dumb logic is that? Two of the best rated games this year launched into the subscription (Blue Prince and Expedition 33). Game quality has nothing to do with it launching into subscription, because contracts are usually signed years before game is released so nobody know if it will be good. And when Microsoft/Sony are looking at games to give them money to get them inside of subscription they are hardly thinking about "what kind of bad game we can sign" lol
Like. Redfall was bad, but it's "quality" doesn't have much to do with subscription, but with fact that Bethesda forced Arkane Austin to make live service game.
What difference to quality it makes when Forza Horizon 5 was launched into Game Pass vs. it launched without subscription on PlayStation? None.
Or Silksong will be bad because it's launching into Game Pass? Will DOOM: The Dark Ages be bad because of Game Pass? Please, explain your logic

Re: Sony's New First-Party Studio Working on Lighthearted Team-Based Action Game for PS5
@get2sammyb Which is not saying much, because Sony also saw a lot of promise with Concord. So much promise that they bought entire studio...
Re: Halo the Final PS5 Holdout of Xbox's Historic Big Three
I would not be against Microsoft porting Halo Infinite to PlayStation 5 even as a gamer who spend 90% on Xbox (rest is PS5).
If not whole game, at least MP. MP has excellent amount of content and is in great shape, but is also in dire need of influx of new players.
Re: Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro
@JustMyOpinion "why so argumentative about objectively false headline that's only purpose is to drive engagement"
Do you need an answer lol?
Re: Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro
@get2sammyb FTFY: "Best console version of Gears of War: Reloaded will be on PS5 Pro"
Really not that hard.
But since I see that on X you got plenty of engagement where people are correcting you with "PC argument," I expect that this headline is by design, obviously.
Re: Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro
@RobbySuave Every game released after september 2024 needs to recognize "PS5 Pro" as a separate SKU. So therefore it is mandated.
It's like if people were acting surprised that Series S games also have Series X support lol.
Re: Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro
@Lukasamba If Microsoft won't make physical version of 70€ RPG game (Avowed), do you really think they will make physical edition for 40€ remaster of old game?
Re: Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro
@get2sammyb I was talking about headline obviously
Re: Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro
@Fartingale Gears 2 and 3 remasters are obviously coming. Not only because of new PlayStation audience, but also because Gears 2 and 3 are not natively on PC.
But I guess charging 40€ for every single remaster is better for Microsoft than charging 70€ for remasters of three games. Gears 1 remaster probably got priority because it's easier game to remaster (since Ultimate edition already exist) and also to woven PS users into Gears universe since E-Day is coming.
Re: Xbox's Gears of War: Reloaded Will Play Best on PS5 Pro
It's wild to write headline like this in world where PC gaming exist lol...
Also, it is really surprising that game supports PS5 Pro? Since Sony is mandating support for that system?
But I guess Push Square really don't have anything else to write about
Re: Plenty of People Are Playing Expedition 33 on PS5, Despite Having to Actually Buy It
@thefourfoldroot1 I tend to lean towards games that don't have 30+ hours runtime, which allows me to try more games. With exceptions of course.
This year I completed Indiana Jones and the Great Circle, Balatro (ie. I'm done with game), Eternal Strands, Hellblade 2, Remnant 2, Avowed, South of Midnight, God of War Ragnarok. Which is not bad at all...
Re: Plenty of People Are Playing Expedition 33 on PS5, Despite Having to Actually Buy It
@thefourfoldroot1 Nah. I'm in mid 30-s with two kids lol
Re: Plenty of People Are Playing Expedition 33 on PS5, Despite Having to Actually Buy It
@thefourfoldroot1 Outside of GTA/RDR2 I have never seen a game that was in Game Pass for less than a year.
Re: Plenty of People Are Playing Expedition 33 on PS5, Despite Having to Actually Buy It
That's just obvious truth.
Re: Opinion: If You're on the Fence, Consider Buying a PS5 Now Before the Prices Inevitably Rise
Re: Opinion: If You're on the Fence, Consider Buying a PS5 Now Before the Prices Inevitably Rise
@Vectrex I obviously get that.
But my point wasn't "PC vs. consoles" but fact that people are reacting on price hikes of consoles with "glad I built a PC." Ignoring the fact that PC components are also getting price hikes.
Re: Opinion: If You're on the Fence, Consider Buying a PS5 Now Before the Prices Inevitably Rise
@dardel I honestly don't get those "glad I build a PC." Aren't PC components also getting ridiculosly expensive nowadays? I remember times when high-end GPU cost 700$ max. Now high-end GPU cost 1500$ lol.
Re: Xbox Now Selling PS5 Games for $80, Joins Switch 2 in Price Increase
Even if Game Pass price hike is just matter of "when" not "if" it's really goes to distance with value proposition.
Just imagine having amount of games they are offering for 20$ per month vs. having to buy every game for 80$.
Re: Expedition 33 Dev Working Around the Clock to Re-Stock Boxed PS5 Copies
@HOWARDSROCK Bro. I doubt that my PS5 will even work in 20-25 years .
But if it will work I will do the basic thing. Install my digital copy of a game which will be probably downloaded 10x faster than installing it from a disc lol. But if you think Sony will shut down their store then okay
And btw. I already have kids. They will be hitting 30s in 25 years of time
Re: Expedition 33 Dev Working Around the Clock to Re-Stock Boxed PS5 Copies
I know that this post will make some people angry...
...but imagine waiting to buy a game in 2025 just because stores ran out of copies lol...
Re: Xbox's Forza Horizon 5 Adds Almost One Million PS5 Players in Just a Few Days
Re: A PS5 Exclusive DOOM: The Dark Ages Trailer Isn't Sitting Well with Xbox Fans
@Rog-X It's not even demo. It's just a trailer where Hugo said "Hi" to PlayStation gamers lol
Re: A PS5 Exclusive DOOM: The Dark Ages Trailer Isn't Sitting Well with Xbox Fans
@Jrs1 Doom Eternal reached 100k CCU on Steam and sold around 6 million copies there. Ignoring popularity of DOOM on PC is strange, but okay
Re: A PS5 Exclusive DOOM: The Dark Ages Trailer Isn't Sitting Well with Xbox Fans
Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are Not the Future of Gaming, Says US Analyst
Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are Not the Future of Gaming, Says US Analyst
@Rich33 That's just wrong.
Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are Not the Future of Gaming, Says US Analyst
Re: PS Plus, Xbox Game Pass Are Not the Future of Gaming, Says US Analyst
