Sony's New First-Party Studio Working on Lighthearted Team-Based Action Game for PS5 1

Sony has officially announced a new first-party studio named teamLFG, which it’s spun out of Bungie. (The LFG stands for 'Looking for Group', by the way, which is an undeniably rubbish name.)

You may recall this dev has been an open secret for a while. Back when Bungie went through a series of layoffs, it was speculated that Sony had taken a group of talented developers under its wing, as it worked on a project known as Gummy Bears.

That game is said to blend MOBA-style gameplay with Super Smash Bros, and some details actually leaked earlier in the year. You can read more information through here.

While teamLFG hasn’t showcased any gameplay as part of its studio reveal today, it has described what it’s up to.

“Our first game is a team-based action game that draws inspiration from fighting games, platformers, MOBAs, life sims, and frog-type games,” the team wrote on the PS Blog. (Genuinely, we’ve got no idea what ‘frog-type games’ are either!)

“Players will inhabit a lighthearted, comedic world set in brand-new, mythic, science-fantasy universe. We can’t wait to reveal more.”

By the way, if you’re hoping this team will one day develop blockbuster single player experiences like The Last of Us and God of War, you’re out of luck – it’s all about interactive, social spaces. Some of its staff have worked on releases like Rec Room and Roblox, for example.

“We will make immersive multiplayer worlds propelled by action games that players can learn, play, and master for countless hours,” it said.

“We want to build our games with our communities, inviting players to be a part of our development process through early access playtests.

“It’s critical that we stay nimble enough to react to player feedback, not just in our lead-up to launch, but throughout live service as we continue to grow the game and community for years to come.”

We look forward to the bitching and moaning that will inevitably unfold when this team’s first game gets revealed during an upcoming State of Play...
