So we already saw with the massive Insomniac leaks that most PS5 1st party games actually sold more physically than digitally. So what gives? Are they intentionally including sales of Digital-Only games to artificially inflate that number to make themselves look better with their decision? Or are they flat-out lying? Cause this seems way too fishy to me, I don't buy this excuse. Especially when Nintendo has now normalized the idea of just charging an extra $10 for physical games (which still sucks but hey at least its still an option.)

Let me break this down;
It's gonna cost around a thousand dollars and be digital-only? I (and many others) have absolutely no reason to ever buy it. At that point there's no reason at all to ever buy one when for that price you can either get a prebuilt pc thats capable of decent quality, or just buy a Steam Machine if plug and play matters to you. And with how anti-consumerism Sony is, why would I trust them not to screw me anymore if they've already repeatedly screwed people out of stuff they rightly paid for? Steam is such a significantly better platform in nearly every way. Physical media, affordability, and good 1st party releases was really all Sony had going for them, and with them basically getting rid of the first two of those, there's effectively no reason to go with Sony anymore unless you're really so die-hard of a fan that you'll fork over any asking price imaginable just to play their games. Which I am not. So unfortunately, if I'm being forced into Digital-Only gaming, I have no motivation to go anywhere other than Steam.

This isn't accounting for people buying pre-owned, nor does it think to exclude digital-only titles that would easily sway the results

I think Amon would be the most interesting pick, but lets be real here. If it's decided by fan votes, it'll be the fan favorite King Bumi.

At this point I exclusively use my PS5 for F2P online games (Overwatch) and single player games. I'm not paying a monthly/yearly fee for something as basic as online play. If I wanna play an online game I'll play it on my Steam Deck. And if it doesn't work on there, I just won't play it and probably won't be missing out on much

Yeah the details that matter the most are the insane price, and the lack of solid 1st party support on the platform.

I'm surprised Sony hasn't made it so you still need a subscription to play F2P games. I'm sure that would rake in a lot of money for them (as well as royally upset their playerbase too)

As someone who really has no stake in this game since I have both a PS5 and PC, I am fully in support of exclusives. Yes its technically anti-consumer, but it's really one of the few ways A game console manufacturer can really stand out and convince people to buy their device as opposed to another. If Sony had been porting their exclusives to PC from the very beginning of the PS5 era, I definitely would not have bothered buying one and just stuck with my PC.

Infamous and Sly Cooper are my Top 2 favorite Sony exclusive game series, so an Infamous collection would be absolutely fantastic. I would buy them even if they didn't improve the visuals and just made them simple ports, I'm so hungry to revisit those games!

The only thing more annoying than people that overly-glaze this game is the people that are super negative towards one of the best games of this generation just cause it gets so much love. Is it overhyped? Kinda yeah. Does it deserve a lot of praise? Absolutely. Anyone trying to say the game is bad either has never played it, or already doesn't like turn based games and is trying to force their subjective tastes into an objective criticism

I'm tired of companies gaslighting us about the price of games and how it technically could totally be more expensive cause of inflation and how they're doing us a favor by only raising it to $70 or whatever. As if the problem isn't these ballooning budgets. No game should cost half a billion dollars to produce. You could afford to charge a reasonable price if you could be bothered to manage your budgets, and maybe stop trying to make every game look photorealistic.

If GTA 6 costs anything more than $70 at launch, I will not only refuse to buy it, but I will wait until I can snag a pre-owned copy later on so I can intentionally make sure my money doesn't go towards supporting that decision.

Did they touch up the games visuals or am I hallucinating? I remember when the game was first revealed and my first thought was that the game looked like a low quality budget title. But this trailer makes the game look a lot better in the visuals department at least.

Meanwhile I'm over here rocking it on my Steam Deck at 720p 30FPS... And the game still somehow manages to look really good!

Thats really cool! I'm only a few hours in but so far this game has been a lot more fun than I expected, I thought the hacking would just be a gimick that switched things up a little bit. But it actually adds a lot more to the gameplay and situational anxiety and makes it really fun, especially when you get into the groove and you're stomping all the enemies with your multi-tasking skills.

When I see stuff like this, my immediate thought isn't "Oh I better go get this before it's gone." My first thought is usually "Oh, it's already going away? Guess I should avoid buying anything from this studio and/or IP ever again if they're just gonna pull it from stores a short time later."

I can see sales coming to a halt over the price increase, but its also entirely possible that big game releases like GTA6 will push enough sales to just barely surpass PS4. ESPECIALLY if they discount it back down a bit for those game launches.

It was already a hard sell at $500 to begin with. Combine that with the expectation that older hardware is suppose to get CHEAPER over time, and yeah. I'd say it's absolutely not worth the current asking price.

I remember when everyone was saying if the Steam Machine was over $700 it would be DOA. Well apparently not if the alternative for the ps6 and project helix are gonna be close to a thousand dollars at this rate! This is getting ridiculous, tariffs and ai are ruining an entire hobby for millions of people that can't afford all this insane BS.

Literally every time I look up a game on the PS Store now, I'm gonna have this little nagging feeling in the back of my head wondering if I'm overpaying for it. My trust has been completely broken. I have a PS5, Switch 1&2, and a Steam Deck and now the ps5 has essentially been completely eliminated as an option for where I should buy a game from, completely because I can't trust that I'm not getting ripped off without putting more effort into it than I should have to.

If they can afford to discount a game for some people. they can afford to discount it for everyone. Truly despicable

Am I, a person who nowadays almost exclusively games on his Steam Deck, upset about this decision? Kinda yeah. Do I understand that this is a completely sensible business decision that Sony probably should do to keep themselves from becoming like Xbox? Begrudgingly yes.

I know a while after Hogwarts Legacy came out, some higher up at WB said something that implied that the sequel would be a live service game, so my expectations are pretty much below ground-level right now.

The fact that the previous gen console is still getting this much support 6 years after the ps5 released is so unprecedented and kinda furthers the argument that not only is this newest generation kind of unecessary, but that the PS6 doesn't really need to be a thing for a long time.

Nothing is ever done in corporate America just because. I think it's a little naive to argue this has nothing to do with what's going on. If they wanted a good time to finally give us a release date, they would've either done it at the recent State of Play, or they would've waited for another event-type thing to announce this. Throwing it up online on a random day just screams that this is an attempt to deflect.

Looks pretty awesome. Can't wait for the chuds to all lose their collective single brain cell over the game "going woke" by having a black main character. They already lost their mind when the mc of F looked like a real asian woman and not a gooner character from a mobile gacha game.

I am absolutely loving this art style! And it being worked on by the team that did Dead Cells has me very optimistic for its quality! Definitely keeping an eye on this one!

This is probably one of the best State of Plays we've ever had. An absolute steady stream of bangers, very few games that made me go "Uhh, ok I guess?" like half of the stuff at Nintendo's most recent Partner Showcase.

First Code Vein was enjoyable but still really mediocre. Hopefully this one is at least a little better. I absolutely adore good character customization, but even that can only take you so far.

Oh boy another company I won't be supporting going forward.

We are absolutely getting P4 remake either in 2026 or 2027. It seems pretty clear they're doing remakes of 3 and 4 to help fund development of P6 & its engine, which could honestly come out at any point between 2027 and 2030 at this point

#10 feels good, this was genuinely one of the most fun kart racers I've ever played. It can't compete with MK8D but not much really can. But I had way more fun with this game than I did with Mario Kart World

Do I actually think there will be a Bloodborne sequel announced? No. Am I still gonna be hoping for it like I do every single year? You betcha!

This looks very much like ai. There's several scenes where you can literally see the obvious "ai shifting" of things moving around. Plus how quickly each shot moves on to the next seems like they're stitching together a bunch of different short ai clips

This looks super cool, I love the concept and the gameplay looks pretty fun!

Can't wait for Nintendo to inevitably try to argue in court that they invented crafting and building when they try to sue over this

Been gaming since the PS2 era but I've played every generation of consoles from SNES onward. This is by far the biggest letdown as a generation as a whole, no competition. The only console really interesting to me was the Switch, and frankly I think they messed that up a bit with the Switch 2 which I'm a lot less interested in. This has been my least favorite Playstation, and I think we can mostly all agree Xbox has gone off the rails and is currently metaphorically rolling down a steep hill into the woods. Don't get me wrong, the PS5 isn't a bad console by far. But i've never felt so indifferent to a console as I have been with this one.

I definitely think it'll still sell well, but I don't think this will do nearly as well as it could've been if they kept it priced competitively with the PS5. Instead of going toe-to-toe with consoles, it'll really just be a niche thing for tech/PC enthusiasts.

I got this for my Steam Deck a bit ago when it started blowing up! You wouldn't think it would be that fun but it tickled my ADHD brain enough to 100% it, highly recommend!

Thats a big yikes. This things success feels like it hinges on being at least reasonably affordable. If its weaker than a PS5 but costs more thats gonna be a huge blow imo.

Friendly reminder for when this game does eventually come out, if you really wanna play it but are also appalled by R*'s behavior, buying a physical game pre-owned means none of the money from that sale goes to the company that made the game at all.
