Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard, FC 25 Underperform, Force EA to Lower Financial Forecast

Darylb88

@dskatter Like I mentioned previously 1.5 million of anything is a decent number. It clearly didn't hit it's financial expectations but that doesn't really matter beyond EA deciding what they want Bioware to do next. I was commenting on this "modern audience" notion which I found to be strange given we kept being told that it exists yet it is very small. I have never played a dragon age game before as I like JRPGS and i liked the world and gameplay (I didn't like the writing).

Re: Poll: Will the Switch 2 Compete with PS5?

Darylb88

Short answer is yes.

Long answer, I expect the Switch 2 to outsell PS5 across its lifetime for 3 reasons

Nintendo has a far stronger 1st party line up that sell in some instances 2-3 times the amount than a PS5 generation bestseller

Most console gamers aren't obsessed with graphics, just good games

The updated power will bring over more AAA's and there a big cross over on JRPG's, with the ones not on the system now to be ported over (thus making me play my Switch 2 more than my PS5).

Nintendo won't try to compete with Sony or outsell them, but it probably will if the price point is the same or lower.

Re: Video Game Industry 'Doesn't Want a Game Pass', Says Market Analyst

Darylb88

I think a lot of us here are the elder folks (30+) who are a bit more invested in buying games rather than the free to play and subscription market. My younger brother (Gen Z) and my kids (Gen Alpha) have zero interest in physical games or buying them when they can jump onto F2P or mobile games. They also use gamepass on mobile and tablets. That's the future of gaming regardless of if we like it or not. Subscriptions are here to stay no matter how many comments we post on a website.

Re: PS5 Tipped to Top Switch 2 Sales in the US This Year

Darylb88

I think in a straight 12 month race at a similar price point and availability Switch 2 would dust PS5 in Sales. But GTA 6 alongside those other variables mean it is hard to predict what 2026 full year sales will look like. Due to the JRPG overlap and the lack of appealing 1P Sony games in the future I might just Switch over to Switch 2, but we shall see.

Re: Horizon Hatred Simmers Once More As Sony Announces Movie Adaptation

Darylb88

The IP is getting milked a bit, like a lot of Sony IP this generation. It's hard to say if the film adaptation will be successful like the main game or rather decidedly not so like the Lego game. Sony films are very hit or miss.

I do get the whole "if you don't like it, don't watch it", but don't be surprised if a lot of people don't.

Re: Round Up: Indiana Jones Reviews Are Live, Mostly Very Strong

Darylb88

I think players should try it on Gamepass before making any kind of judgement. It's very cheap the get the $1, £1 trial and then stream it off PC or phone if you don't own a Xbox. If you don't like Indy it's probably best to look at other games though. I think Pure Xbox's review score is low because they get a low clickthrough rate and an outlier score drives engagement. It's all about ad revenue these days.

Re: Hands On: Cyberpunk 2077, Final Fantasy 16, and Metaphor: ReFantazio All Get a Boost on PS5 Pro

Darylb88

Honestly it's just nice to have games running close to 60 or 4k 60 with RT rather then having to choose. The console will be great for AAA launches in 2025, I think Ghost of Yotei and GTA6 will be particular highlights that convince more people to make the purchase. A nice price cut wouldn't go amiss either.

I can play other games like Kingdom Come Deliverance knowing they will play the best they possibly can outside of PC.

Re: Out Today: PS5 Pro, the Most Powerful Console Ever

Darylb88

I got my pro yesterday and did some tests on various games, here is what I found:

BG3 - Improved RT lighting and better frame rates in the 60hz mode - still doesn't quite hit 60 in act 3 but much better

Metaphor ReFantazio: Now at a locked 60fps - it was 50-60fps on base PS5

Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd: Big uplift in RT reflections in the Quality mode, some the the best looking RT I have seen on a console to date - especially the water

GT7 - Awaiting the Pro Patch

Dragons Dogma 2 - Higher Res noticeable on a 4K TV but not a 1080p one, RT has been taken up to the next level. 30fps locked mode now locked in all areas, still some dips in cities for the 60fps mode.

Stellar Blade - Big uplift in fps on performance mode and resolutions greatly increased

Rise of the Ronin - Improved RT mode and a much smoother 30fps and 60fps mode, graphical fidelity seems higher

Spiderman 2 - Quality mode but at 60fps with all the RT turned on, looks great. The 30fps RT mode (40fps on a 120hz screen) is a real treat with some seriously impressive RT for a console).

Hogwarts Legacy - Noticeably improved RT on the Fidelity RT mode - still runs at 30fps but looks very good.

I plan on trying more games out today

If you want games that run at 4K with RT and 60fps, the PS5 pro is the only console currently that will offer than for the next few years. For the tech £700 is not that bad but for those happy with their PS5 and not wanting more there is no need to upgrade yet.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard Comes Out Swinging, Already EA's Biggest Single Player Game on Steam

Darylb88

I'm sure if we was looking at the concurrent players on PlayStation and Xbox, it would be higher than steam.

70,000 concurrent players for a SP game on Thursday isn't bad, and It might go up at the weekend. This isn't a flop or a runaway success, just a decent game doing decently well.

Ultimately what matters is that you enjoy the game, and if you don't that's also okay. If you aren't interested move on to something you are. EA don't need armchair accountants to speculate for them.

Re: Dragon Age: The Veilguard (PS5) - The Best BioWare Game Since Mass Effect 3

Darylb88

@TooManyBrownies Luke Stephens was pretty positive about the preview much to the dismay of his audience did not get a code and Dantics who was fairly critcal got one. Mortismal Gaming also got a code and is generally even handed and not afraid to call out flaws or bad practices. It's a 7-8 game for those who like action RPGs with light RPG mechanics, for others they are better off playing BG3.
