Microsoft about to live up to it's name and make lots of $$ with this one. A smart move for a game almost 4 years old that has no real competition on PlayStation
I pray Xbox make something good so that PlayStation improve for the PS6 generation. Having the record of the worst performing game of all time is not what I was expecting for the PS5 gen. If this PS5 gen does not improve I'm off to Switch 2.
I have Gamepass so nothing that will make me turn on my PS5 beyond Trails Through Daybreak 2 and then Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2. The Sony 1P output hasn't been great this last couple of years. I got spoiled rotten in the PS4 gen but now Xbox are bringing out the 1P games I like and I don't have to wait at least a year to get them on PS5.
Starfield has been out well over a year now, I wonder if the will port it over if ever? Nintendo will be the ones that will really challenge Sony with the Switch 2. I only keep mu PS5 for the JRPG's I can't get on Switch so if now they start porting them all over to Switch 2 i'll be skipping out until PS6 and I'll play GTA 6 on my Series X.
Will be playing these on Gamepass as I already spend a lot of games but will be picking up a pro for the likes of Ghost of Yotei and Death Stranding 2.
I enjoyed the game overall apart from some of the writing, but I don't think it needs any additional DLC as they previously hinted. The story was tied up nicely and the lack of MTX was a good thing in this game. I can imagine most of the team are supporting other studios until the next Mass Effect is fully up and running.
@dskatter Like I mentioned previously 1.5 million of anything is a decent number. It clearly didn't hit it's financial expectations but that doesn't really matter beyond EA deciding what they want Bioware to do next. I was commenting on this "modern audience" notion which I found to be strange given we kept being told that it exists yet it is very small. I have never played a dragon age game before as I like JRPGS and i liked the world and gameplay (I didn't like the writing).
@MrMagic Like it said 1.5 million of anything is a decent number. For EA, probably not but it was more than enough for Sony with Astro Bot. I'm not arguing that the game was a financial success because it clearly was not. I was just saying that 1.5 million does not represent this "modern audience" people keep banging on about.
Lots of media coverage on Youtube for this one tomorrow. Alongside the launch of the Dualsense Chroma Teal and the Xbox developer direct it's a busy day in gaming news tomorrow!
It's time for Hulst to make way, as the live service strategy has cost time, talent and a lot of money in this PS5 generation. Others like Jim Ryan rightly stepped aside.
Long answer, I expect the Switch 2 to outsell PS5 across its lifetime for 3 reasons
Nintendo has a far stronger 1st party line up that sell in some instances 2-3 times the amount than a PS5 generation bestseller
Most console gamers aren't obsessed with graphics, just good games
The updated power will bring over more AAA's and there a big cross over on JRPG's, with the ones not on the system now to be ported over (thus making me play my Switch 2 more than my PS5).
Nintendo won't try to compete with Sony or outsell them, but it probably will if the price point is the same or lower.
@tameshiyaku It's more like a full game and larger than the other spin off. Based on the content I have seen the price is worth it if you are a big RGG fan.
I enjoyed the game and I wish Corrine the best for the future. It seems like lots of other players enjoyed the game too which is nice to see. That is what gaming is about, not the weird post covid negativity we now get online.
I think a lot of us here are the elder folks (30+) who are a bit more invested in buying games rather than the free to play and subscription market. My younger brother (Gen Z) and my kids (Gen Alpha) have zero interest in physical games or buying them when they can jump onto F2P or mobile games. They also use gamepass on mobile and tablets. That's the future of gaming regardless of if we like it or not. Subscriptions are here to stay no matter how many comments we post on a website.
I have never been into musou games (only played Persona 5 Strikers and Fire Emblem 3 Hopes) but the demo was really fun to play so I will pick this up.
The golden age of gaming was the PS4 and early Switch Generation - 2013-2020. Things have become too toxic and divided since then. The PS5 generation hasn't provided much beyond reused IP's either. I'm looking forward to KKD2 as it's just more my things that BG3, which is played and only moderately enjoyed.
I think in a straight 12 month race at a similar price point and availability Switch 2 would dust PS5 in Sales. But GTA 6 alongside those other variables mean it is hard to predict what 2026 full year sales will look like. Due to the JRPG overlap and the lack of appealing 1P Sony games in the future I might just Switch over to Switch 2, but we shall see.
I played LiS2 and then True Colours and enjoyed both, but the price and the fact I had no attachment to Max meant I just haven't picked this one up yet. I might get it on a deeper sale (under £25).
The IP is getting milked a bit, like a lot of Sony IP this generation. It's hard to say if the film adaptation will be successful like the main game or rather decidedly not so like the Lego game. Sony films are very hit or miss.
I do get the whole "if you don't like it, don't watch it", but don't be surprised if a lot of people don't.
Might get it for my Xbox, although I really don't care about the analog stick placement, as I am capable of switching between Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Controllers.
So they admitted they lack the technical expertise to get the game to run on the Series S.. I can see why they stayed quiet for so long. Hopefully GS get the additional support they need to get the game running on Series S (which is more than capable by the way).
@Lup 100% no player on any platform should take enjoyment from seeing others missing out. I understand why companies might want to do that for financial purposes.
I think players should try it on Gamepass before making any kind of judgement. It's very cheap the get the $1, £1 trial and then stream it off PC or phone if you don't own a Xbox. If you don't like Indy it's probably best to look at other games though. I think Pure Xbox's review score is low because they get a low clickthrough rate and an outlier score drives engagement. It's all about ad revenue these days.
Honestly it's just nice to have games running close to 60 or 4k 60 with RT rather then having to choose. The console will be great for AAA launches in 2025, I think Ghost of Yotei and GTA6 will be particular highlights that convince more people to make the purchase. A nice price cut wouldn't go amiss either.
I can play other games like Kingdom Come Deliverance knowing they will play the best they possibly can outside of PC.
I got my pro yesterday and did some tests on various games, here is what I found:
BG3 - Improved RT lighting and better frame rates in the 60hz mode - still doesn't quite hit 60 in act 3 but much better
Metaphor ReFantazio: Now at a locked 60fps - it was 50-60fps on base PS5
Dragon Age: The Veilgaurd: Big uplift in RT reflections in the Quality mode, some the the best looking RT I have seen on a console to date - especially the water
GT7 - Awaiting the Pro Patch
Dragons Dogma 2 - Higher Res noticeable on a 4K TV but not a 1080p one, RT has been taken up to the next level. 30fps locked mode now locked in all areas, still some dips in cities for the 60fps mode.
Stellar Blade - Big uplift in fps on performance mode and resolutions greatly increased
Rise of the Ronin - Improved RT mode and a much smoother 30fps and 60fps mode, graphical fidelity seems higher
Spiderman 2 - Quality mode but at 60fps with all the RT turned on, looks great. The 30fps RT mode (40fps on a 120hz screen) is a real treat with some seriously impressive RT for a console).
Hogwarts Legacy - Noticeably improved RT on the Fidelity RT mode - still runs at 30fps but looks very good.
I plan on trying more games out today
If you want games that run at 4K with RT and 60fps, the PS5 pro is the only console currently that will offer than for the next few years. For the tech £700 is not that bad but for those happy with their PS5 and not wanting more there is no need to upgrade yet.
I got fomo over the PS5 Pro and caved in my ordering one on Curry's. I was surprised I could still pre order one for launch day on Thursday but happy about it.
I got fomo over the PS5 Pro and caved in my ordering one on Curry's. I was surprised I could still pre order one for launch day on Thursday but happy about it.
I'm sure if we was looking at the concurrent players on PlayStation and Xbox, it would be higher than steam.
70,000 concurrent players for a SP game on Thursday isn't bad, and It might go up at the weekend. This isn't a flop or a runaway success, just a decent game doing decently well.
Ultimately what matters is that you enjoy the game, and if you don't that's also okay. If you aren't interested move on to something you are. EA don't need armchair accountants to speculate for them.
@TooManyBrownies Luke Stephens was pretty positive about the preview much to the dismay of his audience did not get a code and Dantics who was fairly critcal got one. Mortismal Gaming also got a code and is generally even handed and not afraid to call out flaws or bad practices. It's a 7-8 game for those who like action RPGs with light RPG mechanics, for others they are better off playing BG3.

@Reform It wasn't on EA play for consoles. It might drop there in the future though like most EA titles. The estimate is 1.5 million sales.
