Square Enix is bringing Star Ocean: Till the End of Time West on PlayStation 4 as an enhanced PS2 Classic. The action role-playing title launched on Sony's current-gen console in Japan earlier this year, and naturally, it features Trophy support and share functionality.
You won't have to wait long for it to hit the PlayStation Store, either. The reworked release will be available from next week, on the 23rd May in both Europe and North America. However, it'll apparently be priced at $20.99 in the US, which, let's face it, is a bit bloody steep for what is essentially a PS2 re-release. You should probably expect it to be in the region of £18 here in the UK.
Will you be going back to this ocean of stars next week? Tell us how underrated Till the End of Time is in the comments section below.

That's a rip-off.
Awesome, awesome! Been wanting to play this, I bought a PS2 copy a few years back, but then that ended up being busted and it was left at that.
I doubt its going to top SO2 for me, but I can always hope.
Question: Do these PS2 re-releases run on 60HZ or 50HZ on the PAL version?
£18?!
Even as a huge fan of this title, that's just asking too much!
I want to play this but won't pay more than ten pounds im afraid
i can get the PS2 version cheaper than that (if i didn't already own it of course)
@get2sammyb "That's a rip-off."
Are you PS4K'ing kidding me!?!?!?!
LocoRoco, an 11 year old PSP game, is such a great bargain you told me this -
"Absolutely ridiculous comment — it's a full-length game and an excellent one at that."
but this 14 year old full fledged PS2 JRPG enhancement is a rip-off at $20? How can you rectify those 2 opinions? Just b/c you love LocoRoco they can charge whatever they want and it's fine but you hate JRPG so this one is a rip-off at nearly the same price?
If you think the Locoroco remaster is priced perfectly I dont' see how this can be a rip-off at nearly the same price. That just doesn't make any sense. And I'm not saying this is priced fairly, but at least I'm consistent.
Anything under £20 is a bit of a bargain for this classic, 60-100 hours of gameplay (Battle Trophies - gotta catch 'em all)!
@rjejr Surely there is a difference between a PS2 re-release and a fully remastered title that has been recreated on a home console?
I remember buying this at launch, and pretty much hated it. Maybe it was just me at the time....but at $20 I'm not ready to test that. Being a square Enix game, it'll get a discount down the line, maybe I'll pick it up then.
@rjejr You know it's damn near impossible to win an argument against someone like Sammy, but i commend you for your persistence
Flash sale please and I'm all over it but need to see a review 😀
@rjejr isnt that game €9,99
@get2sammyb then considered me ripped off. Excited to get back into this one, though I do agree it should be priced closer to the other PS2 classics
Hmmm its a little to much ill wait untill its half price.
I'll probably pick this up. I like the old school jrpgs. I'm also one of those who don't see this as a rip off tbh. If a game can provide 80-100 hours of entertainment for $20 then that's pretty good. It doesn't matter how old it is.
A lot of modern games go for £30-50 and have a story that lasts about 10-20 hours, with the odd exception like persona (240) and horizon zero dawn (80) etc.... yet these games aren't classed as rip offs due to them being 'new'.
To me, this star ocean game will be 'new' as I've never played this one so I can't see a problem with it - but that might just be me.
Well, the game IS the best game of the series, and it is WAY better than Star Ocean 5 so I can see why they made the game a bit too overpriced.
The price is not that bad imho, it's a very long game and it has been reworked a bit with HD graphics and trophies support. It will also be discounted sooner or later...we will be paying a lot more for FF12 this summer (I know not really the same thing, but ps2 game at its core).
Should I get this? I played 4 and enjoyed it mostly. Always considered getting into the series but not had time. Been trying to play through the tales of series, final fantasy games and trails series leaves me with little time for any other jrpgs... Should I go for this or kingdom hearts?
Sweet jesus stop releasing games i want to play please! Mah monies!
I can't even remember if I played this one or not,but either way that is way over priced.
@rjejr I completely agree with you! Btw I love your posts here and at Nintendo Life and I was just wondering if you'd like to be PSN friends? My PSN ID is Rukiafan7 if you're interested feel free to send me a friend request!
@Reanfan7 Thanks. I'm not big on the whole "social" thing but I'll add you. I think I have exactly 6 friends on PSN, 2 of them are my kids, 1 is my wife, and 3 are from NL. One sent me a message the other day but I don't know how to read it or reply.
@Flaming_Kaiser "isnt that game €9,99"
I don't know, they wrote an entire review saying it was great for the price but nobody ever said what the price was. (That's sort of a joke, the guy who wrote the review did graciously answer my question about the price in the comments.) But if someone can argue an 11 year old PSP game is great for the price at $9.99 I don't see how a 14 year old PS2 JRPG is a rip-off even at $20. Too extreme of views for too similar situations.
@RedMageLanakyn Now that you mention it, I don't think I've ever won an argument w/ sammy since he started this site. But on the bright side we agree about 90% of the time so it doesn't happen that often.
@Rudy_Manchego I'm sure there is a difference, it's less about the prices and more about sammy's reaction to anybody who doesn't agree w/ him.
Screw it, still going to get it. Haha.
Whatever the price, I know I'm gonna get it day one.
And add it to my "to do list". So I'll probably play it in four or five years.
So much games, so many time...
This is disappointing, I thought it was going to be a true PS4 remaster.
Will wait a few years when it's dirt cheap.
All I remember is that the droning guitar loops of the soundtrack made me lose my mind.
Now only if there was an option to read the old PS2 saves so that we could continue off where we left off (for those of us who have/had the original save file still). Am too lazy to restart this game again after the amount of hours I poured into it.... Speaking of which, I should dig it out and play it on the PS3, and actually finish the game after all these years.
@rjejr lol. I'm from NL as well, feel free to add me (xtrosion) and I'll translate it for ya. And don't worry, I'm not gonna harass you by spamming ya with dutch messages 😂
@Hego That was quicker than I thought it'd take to be released!
@Reanfan7 Ya though of what you said when I saw the headline!! Still won't get round to playing it for long while (so many games to play!) but I'll be keeping my eye on it
As a collector who knows the value of older games, I can confirm that 20 dollars for a digital PS2 game IS a rip off. You can buy this game all day long for 15-20 dollars online. Complete in box and everything.
It's a shame because the price will most certainly detract from the sales. Just buy it online. Not only will you have a more valuable copy, but it'll cost less too. The only reason to buy this is if you really want to play the game on a PS4.
