The upcoming Dynasty Warriors 9 will take full advantage of the PlayStation 4 Pro, allowing owners of the supercharged system to select between 4K resolution at 30 frames-per-second or 1080p resolution at 60 frames-per-second. That’s according to director Atsushi Miyauchi who was speaking with Gamer.com.tw, as translated by Gematsu.
Elsewhere in the interview, Miyauchi revealed that the release is being tailor-made for the PS4, and is being built using a revamped engine which recycles some old resources but has been vastly improved upon. All 83 warlords from the previous iteration will apparently return, but this time they’ll be joined by the likes of Cheng Pu and Zhou Cang, which means absolutely naff all to anyone not named Robert Ramsey.

HDR? I know the buzzword is 4K but HDR is a bigger deal.
That being said this is how all games should use the Pro. Always give a choice.
@Splat No word on HDR at the moment.
Are these the locked frames or target? 4k/30 sounds great in theory, but with this kind of game and all the action going on, it would be terrible to have it dropping to 20 or below that constantly.
This should be the standard on all ps4 pro games, give us the option to play 4k/30 fps or 1080p/60 fps.
@wiiware
Exactly, all games should have this option and for most it would just be a matter of testing and altering configuration files.
@wiiware Offering a 60fps version is not always possible. Some games are not built for 60fps and the animations etc can look off. MP games too won't offer a 60fps version if the base mode isn't capable of offering 60fps. That includes games like Destiny for example too as the entire campaign, the free roaming etc are all online so not just 'competitive' MP.
It may sound a nice idea in principal but its not always possible, practical or allowed under Sony's guidelines. I do think its funny that a PS4 could have an unlocked 60fps and average 30-40fps in MP but a Pro with boost mode could give 40-50fps and and a Pro mode could be 50-60fps but they can't have a game capped at 30fps on a PS4 running at 60fps on the Pro in MP.
I agree though that where possible, gamers should be given a choice. Even if they can't offer a 1080/60 option, maybe they could offer a 1080 'ultra' settings mode instead. In some cases though the high resolution, downsampled option is still 'better'. The gains that 'ultra' settings offer are often not that noticeable - better shadow quality, objects at a distance have the full detail but too small to see and look very similar to the low detailed versions etc. Sometimes its not until you put two images side to side or flick between the two (like Digital Foundry often do) that you can see the difference.
Point I am making, is that in theory, its what all games should do, but in practice its not always possible or an option for various reasons.
Since playing all the recent Koei games at 60 I don't think I can drop back to 30. The guy saying that these types of games don't matter at 3 obv hasn't played one of the latest ones on the pro or they are trying to justify the switch version.
These games are the types that 'do' benefit from the higher framerates. I played through warriors orochi 3 on the 360 and wii u all the way through and thought they were great - then I got it for PS4 and realised how much better it was with the smoother gameplay.
I will try the 4k mode (if it does supersampling) otherwise, my main will be 1080p. Thing is, dragon quest heroes 2 has both these options too, but you can only pick 4k if you have a 4k display - no supersampling. So maybe they will do the same? I hope they don't, but they might
Having played just about every Warriors game ever - the vast majority at 60fps - I don't think I'd be able to stomach 30fps even at 4K.
Well these games are not my cup of tea,but a 60fps option is a wonderful thing.i really hope every dev will start including this whenever at all possible.
If you like Dynasty Warriors, check out Hyrule Warriors! You can play as my gender confused counterpart Linkle!
