@Nep-Nep-Freak Haha, no worries at all. I just saw a lot claiming they will not play this coming week and then connect back up a week later, seemingly ignoring the fact it will tell Sony all they did during the week.
I only had an Xbox for Forza, so I totally get it! 😂
@Nep-Nep-Freak Make sure to never ever connect it to the internet again, otherwise it reports your activity for this week to Sony the moment it syncs back up with their servers.
Not trying to be condescending, just letting you know if it’s your intention to make Sony believe you’re not gaming that week, it would require you not ever connecting the console to the internet, otherwise it will report back to them even a year from now.
@Enuo People aren’t fighting for their consumer rights at all. They’re fighting to be heard, mainly with other people online and to feel connected to something far bigger than themselves.
If people actually wanted to fight Sony on this, they would have contacted the board members.
Literally, right now, write just one singular email to a secretary or CEO and you will have done far more than these thousands of people do by not logging in to an online system with millions of users.
Fighting for consumer rights ideally means people know how to fight for them, not logging in to a console for a week isn’t fighting for anything.
I mean are people here really that inept that they can’t compose an email, create a petition like the other disingenuous one, and get people to copy and paste and send the email to Sony?
If we all sent one copy and pasted email to Sony by the thousands, sent them print outs to their addresses by the thousands, it would all do far more than not logging in for a week.
This isn’t a fight, it’s a whimper from an already beaten fraction of a consumer base that is clearly lost at sea without a paddle.
If you, or anyone else thinks this is going to be even registrable on Sony’s analytics, well then clearly none have worked for a large consumer facing business.
You do know people go a week without loading a PlayStation by the millions already, right? As in national holidays, school holidays, national emergencies in countries and so forth.
They all impact a service like PSN by the millions at times over the course of a month.
Much like how TV famously isn’t watched by nearly as many during summer months.
Fighting, ha, if this is a fight to people here I’d hate to see what they do if covered with a paper bag.
@ShadowRJ I wouldn’t worry about being a hypocrite, peoples opinion of you here should be of no consequence in your life.
If you want to go on a device you’ve paid for with your own hard earned money, do so, and don’t even feel the need to tell them otherwise.
People are behaving like we all report in on a call sheet each day with one another on when we game and how long for.
I admire your honesty and transparency, but never assume half of what people say here is true, if half the people on the internet moaning about discs would have actually purchased them … we wouldn’t be in this situation to begin with.
Sony isn’t saying much because people’s actions over the years with their own wallets has shown a very different pattern to that for which they like to shout online.
You do you, just don’t do something because of what people may think of you on here. If someone cares that much about what you do in your own home with your own electricity and electronics, they better be paying you rent.
@Jireland92 Do I think any of this nonsense is a big deal in the grand scheme of things? For Insomniac, us, Sony, the world at large, no.
However, when you compound what has been said and done, on top of weeks of relentless comments regarding disc-less futures for all as far as PlayStation is concerned, it gets a lot to contend with.
Studios like Insomniac actually do genuinely like to get a feel for what people are thinking, creating heat maps of what people want from them, how they see their game and so on.
So when you have social media managers reporting back that the world hates your game due to it being from a company that is not publishing your disc, oh and it looks basic like a mobile game, oh and that death threat last week, well now there's 20 more. It all just keeps compounding.
I only do social media here, but it's fair to say that the world at large seems to think social media is getting more and more negative by the day, and so companies on it trying to get a feel for things are finding it harder to do so.
From my knowledge of them, no one at Insomniac is going to be impacted by this on a personal level. However, like us all, they're adults and just sort of done with the relentless negativity that's being bounced around the world right now.
Being on socials and selling your product shouldn't mean people get to tear you a new hole every Tuesday because their mother didn't love them enough.
People who are that negative and wish to bring down something others love, that harms no one, should either live a solitary life, or get counseling.
But yes, Insomniac don't care as such, it's just they're likely done pretending to appease the worlds negative Nancy's ... aren't we all? Sure sounds like Liam is.
There's an entitlement to the world now, that used to be hidden before social media took off, and now everyone feels validated, seen, heard, and yet no one seems to stop and think if that's an algorithm to keep them engaged, not their opinion that's important.
So no, no big deal, agreed, but I just think studios are done with dealing with the same crap we all are done with. We are all used to companies pretending to either not acknowledge it, or be overly nice to it, now they are firing back.
I'm not saying this is how Insomniac or Sony are feeling, but I would say more than anything I'm just trying to word from their side how it may be seen all inclusive, not as a microcosm. Playing Devil's Advocate to speak.
@wildcat_kickz Seems to have said all this far better to be honest haha.
@LiamCroft Thanks for the preview snippets, Liam. Just wanted to also state, from reading your preview it's clear you are a fellow man from Derbyshire.
Your way of delivering facts like it's a lump hammer to a kneecap is exactly what is needed in this sea of misinformation and social media "hot takes".
Keep saying it how it is, directness in this article is appreciated from me at the very least.
Just to look at what can be rendered in-engine, both real-time and then when no input is required, is simply astounding.
I am lucky enough to have worked alongside some people from Insomniac, and may again down the road and I shall always be grateful for what they bring to the table.
Not one conversation ends in how they can't achieve something, it's about how not yet do they know how, but will set people on figuring it out.
Truthfully, the storyline could be just picking cabbages from a field whilst being shot at by Mr Blobby, and I would still buy this based purely on a perspective of wanting to admire the artistry behind the game itself.
I personally take no issue to people loving it, hating it, hating Sony, wanting to leave the platform, not buy exclusives, but I shall always admire their in-house approach when it comes to the artistry of games. I am happy to be transparent in just wanting to look at something pretty from the industry I work in.
Thanks for the article, and I look forward to not buying this for £70 due to having the ability and free-will to just purchase Loaded/ShopTo credit if so desiring.
@PuppetMaster Speaking as someone who hasn't owned a Nintendo console since the Gamecube, I then dabbled with friends Wii, a tiny bit of Wii U and nothing of Switch - you will absolutely love it!
I got a Switch 2, well two in fact, one for my wife and one for myself, and I adore it.
Now, I will add the disclaimer that as one can imagine I have a catalogue of hundreds, if not thousands of things to venture into spanning a couple of decades almost. However, I think anyone who values Nintendo games will be in heaven with what the Switch 2 can achieve.
Having said that, I've seen as of late a lot here throw around the "shill" title to a lot, now if you think PlayStation fans on here are shills, NintendoLife dwarfs this community with its "shill like" behaviour by a landslide.
If it's a popular game, or a Nintendo IP, good luck speaking sense unless it was first spoken by someone who's highly regarded over there.
So, whilst I am arguably a lot more of a "fan" of Nintendo from my early childhood than many on there, I tend to keep my mouth shut a lot more than here, as people tend to be a lot more defensive of a company that has just as many negatives as PlayStation.
They are swings and roundabouts, in the sense, Nintendo is horrendous at many a thing, but usually not the same things PlayStation is. So you just have to adjust, accept and enjoy the games.
But, yes, on the whole, I would say my life as in the gaming hobby side of it would have been massively missing out if I hadn't purchased a Switch 2. It's arguably by a large margin my most played console over PS5.
So, get one, either wait for the refresh or don't, either way it'll be a Switch 2, and just zone out and enjoy it.
I collect the games, either full on cart or Game Key Cards, and adore that for now I still can, so I can share with my family, friends and so on.
I mean I even completed the latest Resident Evil games on there simply because I didn't care for trophies, didn't think the PS5 graphics made that much of a leap, and it was portable. So Sony lost sales from me just based on the fact Nintendo just makes gaming feel like it did for me when I was a kid.
They ain't perfect though, far, far from it. Different, yes. So get one, experiment with it and see if you love it, worst case, you don't, wait 6-12 months and with the cost of everything going up you'll be able to sell it for the same or more than you bought it.
@Boxmonkey This website needs to bring in maximum character limits in the comments section. Some of these essays aren’t going to be read by anyone.
Yep, keep spamming that out like it's a thought completely unique unto yourself.
Just so you know, not wishing to read is an insult only directed towards yourself. If you do not have time to read and would prefer pictures, pick up a picture book or comic.
@TrollOfWar Exactly! I see this used a lot, the old won’t be buying their PS6 card.
Now, whilst that is perfectly fine and I support anyone not buying or buying anything with their own money, that doesn’t hurt people of course.
However, if none of us, literally the entire population of the world didn’t buy a PS6, Sony would lose their R&D, lose their already assembled consoles and some marketing costs, costs for a few exclusives etc.
Now say that is 1-2 billion dollars, pounds, cheeseburgers, whatever currency people prefer … that will still get made back by simply selling PS5 micro transactions, PS5 games and so on.
I think some, not Moose however, seem to think when they say not many will buy a PS6 it will destroy Sony. It won’t.
Just how barely anyone bought a Wii U, Sony has the money to make things right from a console that barely sells, just as Nintendo did.
Not buying a PS6 is fine, not buying anything else that benefits Sony, so maybe an iPhone with a Sony camera module, or using an NHS hospital that has some Sony equipment, you get the idea, that has an impact.
Not buying a PS6 and thinking it destroys Sony or even gets physical back is nonsense. It forces them to rethink their console strategy, but it doesn’t force them to start publishing games on a medium that’s decades old.
@Psofo Absolutely, there is certainly something to be said about poisoning the well. However, it's largely in my group having a point of poisoning the perception of what a group are like and not who Sony are.
Take this past weekend, I got back from Japan and was with my sister and wife up around the Peak District, now we all game, two of us even work in the industry, and yet not once did we speak of Sony ditching discs, just our great gaming experiences recently and approaching no doubt.
Same at work, same in my wider social circle, everyone is saying "Well I don't read comments anyway" - "Well, not really sure what that will do?!" - "And they wonder why gamers are disliked"
Now, I am around a lot of folk in and out of the industry, and mostly it's fair to say those of the ages between 30-50. None have yet even spoken of any of this behaviour impacting their buying decisions.
However, many, and I really mean a lot have instead decided to block comments, not read comments, come off sites like this, stop using social media and so on.
So, whilst (like many of us), I can only provide anecdotal evidence, at least anecdotally, none of the people I know care for this behaviour from gamers (many of whom wish physical to remain a purchasable option).
Most people that game, they don't look at websites like this, or drown themselves deep on Reddit or comments sections. My sister is 59, bought more consoles than I have over the years and always buys even more games than I do a year.
Yet she doesn't know how to set her Alexa device to UK English v American English, or even use social media and certainly doesn't watch YouTube.
Literally, someone who spends hundreds and thousands on games a year is my sister, and she has used YouTube once to watch an allotment video I posted, and social media as a whole she's never been on.
So whilst I agree with you, Sony know that at large, people don't care what people think, and people don't care to read what people think, and people sure as hell ain't gonna do, say or care about a cause because someone online has told them so in broken English.
People get home from work, game, hear from their mates what games are releasing and that's it. The others who are more hardcore shout the loudest, but they sure don't spend the most, otherwise we'd have physical games outliving myself on PlayStation.
So, will this damage the brand, to us in this ecosystem, maybe yes. Will this damage the brand to the hundreds of millions that game globally and don't even know of us existing? No.
I do find it hilarious how some gamers are hounding Sony as if they're a serial killer that's been released early from prison and are in uproar from said early release.
A little bit of perspective and maybe life experiences are needed for those being this dramatic over a video game being distributed on a disc.
I fully support the continuation of the physical medium, and think Sony jumped the gun far too early, along with not wording things at all, or in a way that I would have done. Yet, all they did was take an inevitable action sooner than people assumed, the action would still have taken place even if 5 years from now.
However, other than to buy more physical discs, and to send letters to CEO's, there's really only futile screaming into a void actions being taken.
I'm all for people venting and so forth, we all do from time to time, but none of the actions being taken are what suits in a boardroom listen to.
They listen to the people presenting the sales data, engagement metrics on the platform such as PS4, PS5 frequency of being turned on, what is done on there when on, how long for, how many times the store is loaded, blah blah.
The last thing a suit is going to do, is read comments on YouTube, listen to social media staff, or take a threat to not purchase a PS6 seriously.
Money talks, consumers spend more on something, company takes note.
People moan on YouTube or Push Square, company laughs as they watch sales data showing opposite.
Now, do I think adverts from Sony for their items such as the PlayStation brand could be far better? Yes. That's something I want to see them improve. Remember that young lady in them from a while ago now, that seemed alien like. That was odd, and different for the time.
@ShadowRJ Haha, sure does! Granted, best to think of it as the MCU. They (Epic) flesh it out over years, and then bring in film, game and TV partnerships (which obviously help sell items in their store), fleshing out the dimensions you can be in each season.
Honestly, genuinely had more fun in it when they do live events of years gone by than some Marvel films.
At times, it's pants, utter pants, but when it's good, it really does feel like you're a part of something special. As in the game world, the lore, the live events and so on.
There's something amazing in jumping in to a live event, millions are experiencing it, the boss fights are more cinematic and larger in scale visually than Wolverine's now already infamous "Fist Boss Fight".
Genuinely, sometimes I can't stand the game, for months and months at a time I don't play it. (Unlike what many here seem to think is the case with Fortnite players).
However, when it's good, it's damn good fun. Put it this way, I've played many a AAA game with more of a lacking story, and less of an impact visually when playing than some seasons of Fortnite. It ain't the bad egg people like to claim it is. Sometimes it's a puddle and blah, sometimes it's an Epic (pun intended) wave.
I mean look at Destiny, another game I played a lot (lot more than Fornite), massive AAA title. I needed to go on websites, Apps and so on just to even access a large part of the lore for it.
Yet in Fortnite, it's all there, rammed in the game and free to explore as much or as little as you wish over the years.
Like I say, sometimes I duck out for months at a time, but when it's good it is really good. I've not spent a penny in it so far, and it's given me more hours of entertainment consistently than Destiny ever did, after buying all the expansions. Destiny gave more of a game world and impact and so on, but it wasn't always anywhere near as "fun".
More people log in to play a Fortnite live event than buy some games on Switch, PS5 and so forth, that isn't because there's nothing to it and they're all dumb (as some would have people think).
If you search YouTube for "Fortnite story so far", you will see just how admittedly convoluted and crazy the story gets (and the live events that come from them). If someone just wants "fun", it definitely serves a purpose.
I'll make sure to pop in with the new season with the missus and daughter, as we sometimes do. Looks fun, and always a good bit of silly downtime.
Provided us with many a hilarious moment between us friends and family over the years, so should be good to have a laugh and a much needed palate cleanser in between some other games.
This and a few other shooters always just help to balance out the mind and be a bit of silly fun. Like having a game of footie with the lads down the park, or a board game like Kerplunk!
And the story at times has been more entertaining than the slop Marvel pumps out for the most part of late. I mean virtual reality, alternate dimensions, infinite crossovers, humour, action and a Ready Player One vibe, count me in!
Really looking forward to it, should be some good fun with the mates! I’ll be there for the Beta play through for a little spicey shooty shooty bang bang action.
@Ristar24 Brilliant points! It would seem I’ve got a lot to get through. Any game with a mini game within it is a win in my book. Gosh how I wish SEGA still did a console to satisfy my quirky childhood dreams haha.
We all know it would certainly be something outside the box!
@Ristar24 Fantastic, thank you very letting me know! This kinda stuff is definitely my jam by the sounds of it.
I do plan to get Yakuza on Switch 2 up to what I can, but then I understand I’ll have to wait as the cadence of releasing on there seems to be only just getting started compared to PS5.
So I’ll grab Judgment and Lost Judgment on PS5, see what I can get on Switch 2 Yakuza wise and then wait to see where the wind blows.
I mean the game in the article may be on Switch 2 by time I get around to it in a few years, but failing that I’ll plump with PS5.
I always have the Portal to make it feel that much more cozy and of course portable haha. First world problems and all that!
Thank you very much to the both of you! I just miss this genre so much and now I'm older oddly think I will get a lot more out of the genre than I did way back when.
So, off to purchase Judgment I go, and I'll chase that with diving into Yakuza proper if (and no doubt when) I find myself in my comfort food stage of gaming again haha.
Looking forward to it. Now finally having completed all the Spider-Man series, definitely feeling a little itch that needs scratching in seeing Insomniac deliver on a different genre, however, needs must and all that. I understand now isn't the time for that with contractual agreements and timelines etc.
Though it won't be the Wolverine game I would envisage, it shall no doubt a wonderful one, I would prefer him to be a drunk, collecting a pension, struggling to put his clothes on as mini games. Like a drinking mini game, gambling ones and so on.
Basically, a Shenmue style lifesim of Wolverine, that would get me excited.
My personal dreams aside, I am sure this will be a great mindless romp, which is at present the best I can expect from a comic book storyline turned video game.
Right, loved Shenmue on the Dreamcast, way back when. I remember almost obsessing over it at the time in fact.
However, having never played anything from the Yakuza series and of course, now with titles like this, would you say it's all worth getting back into for the vibe I felt with Shenmue?
Anyway, anyone that has experience with both Shenmue and these sorts of titles, if you have anywhere I can throw myself at next for the fix that would be awesome!
Well, at least it’s not just PushSquare where people get into spats about video games and ultimately solve nothing.
The gentleman seems anything but, and a class A door knob at that.
I would wish all the team well when this inevitably goes to the bargain bin, but then I wouldn’t know whether I’m wishing an AI program well or a human.
Either way, be it SkyNet or a human that’s below the CEO in the food chain, I hope they all go on to do great things.
And may the CEO be forever in need of working for a rideshare company, and lacking in patrons.
@Leinad7 Couldn't agree more! Living with my wife and child has taught me the value of less is more! Seems to be only I who has to live by that rule though, as I'm surrounded by a lot of stuff from my wife and daughter haha.
Can't complain too much though, as met my wife in the industry and she's massively into gaming!
@Leinad7 And why did you stop using your PC? I mean I did the same, and gave away my Xbox too. Didn't have the heart to charge someone for it, more fool me after the prices they now go for ha! So now it's PS and S2 for my foreseeable.
@For-Kier I know some don't always get your directness, but my gosh I don't half love reading your sharp wit. We don't always agree, but I think that's great too.
For me it's about speaking sense in a sea of silliness, and for that I respect how you just cut to the chase on it all.
@Llamageddon Very well said. I didn't quite word my diatribe as eloquently due to being rather irritated by the fact apparently it's all for one or none for all.
Kind of puts the notion of being a "community" up for debate. Anyway, very well said.
I wonder if calls for it to be improved on Switch 2 have prompted this. Not this as in the changes would only exist due to it, but if it's got the same old engine bugs that are potentially game breaking on both platforms ... sort of makes sense that addressing an issue engine wise would fix both ports.
All I have read is that there are game save issues, whereby people encourage saving a lot, and RAM allocation issues. However, I am yet to jump in myself, so hopefully these things can be solved prior to doing so.
Apparently fans of Bethesda speak of not expecting them to be good at developing a game worth playing in many ways, yet massively in others (story, experience and so forth). So I hope one day to plop myself in front of a console, portable or static and not have to worry about RAM leaks or save files.
I'm playing Starfield currently, as my first Bethesda game, so I guess if it's as good/bad as that, as in how it behaves I'll be alright!
@ElPenitente The Raid movies, now they are brilliant fun. Absolutely love martial arts in any film, from growing up with it and getting really into it as a hobby.
When I lived in Seattle, I did go to Bruce and Brandon's grave, didn't even know it was in the Washington State area, then walking by it I nipped in a bar and heard a bloke on about it. So I ventured off and paid my respects for a moment.
I lived on Capital Hill where the cemetery is and no one told me previously, felt a bit odd to have such idols right next to me whilst I was even referring to their work without knowing.
And though there were lots of crows around due to it being normal, there was something kind of magical at the time about just loads and loads of crows sitting around on that day.
What a time to be alive, growing up with all those martial arts films, and then it influencing things like John Wick, The Matrix and so much more!
With poetic moments like that in life, and the ignore feature on Push Square, life can be kind of beautiful at times haha
A few of my friends will be excitedly watching this State of Play that’s for sure! Not my cup of tea on a personal level, but oddly prefer watching others play it haha.
Hope all who tune in to get some gossip about it come away loving it! Even I get excited over game reveals and deep dives that I’m not going to buy, when I know my mates will really be happy.
Something kinda cool about knowing something as simple as a YouTube video with the comments clearly turned off if this site is anything to go by, will make someone so happy after seeing it.
@Leinad7 I’m happy you prefer PC gaming, I do not. So what’s the point for us both? You go to PC Gamer and don’t engage in console related content and I don’t go on PC Gamer and engage in PC related content.
I’m not jumping on any message boards, forums, or websites selling the benefits as I personally see them, in my opinion to PC gamer centric sites for console.
This is what it’s like, you’re jumping on a console centric site, to tell over 126 active monthly users of a console, forgetting the other console user bases, to ditch it entirely because you personally prefer PC.
If you prefer PC, I see no issue in that, why would I? So go enjoy it and interact with like minded people.
@Vertere That’s exactly it, I do get to say they’re meaningless, as I did so.
If you believe that’s all my point was then you seriously don’t get any of my points, and it’s you who is being reductive, making engaging any further redundant.
The developer, not me, is saying they are meaningless, by taking them away and expecting someone to pay the full price for the game. To take what some people here clearly value, as remember, this community wouldn’t gatekeep the trophies and tell people to “git gud” unless they were worth something to them.
So what you’re saying is unlike Nintendo, someone is expected to pay the same for less, yet despite being told I can’t say trophies are meaningless, the developers can say that depending on the difficulty I pick, and the community can say they should be meaningless to me unless I up the difficulty.
I personally couldn’t care less about trophies, but I care about fairness, that’s all. And unlike some people in this comments section who clearly are only held up in life by their gaming achievements, I want gaming to be as accessible to all and know that as a developer that can and is done without impacting others.
Someone, as in you, or I getting an achievement, doesn’t impact and negatively impact your experience or mine of the game. If you get 426 achievements tomorrow, my life isn’t impacted.
People in the comments keep saying ‘easy’ mode shouldn’t have the trophies, but as I’ve previously explained, ‘hard’ mode when playing as a neurotypical, able bodied person isn’t ‘hard’ compared to how it is for many.
‘Easy’ mode is still very hard to some people, and then remember, it’s not less of the game or content at all, it’s often the same content. Just less of a brick wall for many.
I tend to play most games on whatever the normal or default is, but I didn’t open up Rachet and Clank, play it on normal, get a few trophies and get freaked out and complain online that someone playing on easier got the same trophies as me.
I don’t care for trophies. I don’t care for specific difficulties. I care for fairness and accessibility in this hobby. That’s all.
And yes, I very much get to say an arbitrary bit of code placed in a game to track your progress for the developers, as a developer is meaningless to the gaming community at large.
Otherwise my childhood lacking any company having visible trophies would have lacked anyone wishing to game. We all love gaming. We don’t need to tack on an additional game to the already existing game to make a micro game that then belittles others.
EDIT: I mean when there is even a comment here taking the mick out of someone like myself getting hit by a car, out of my control and using it to prop up their argument as a joke … that tells you all you need to know about dying on the hill defending their mentality. You’re more than welcome to be on that hill, but I won’t participate any further.
@Zuljaras I did Google it, though did know of it beforehand, however I've never actually downloaded it or known exactly what people do in it, so just went to get some stats.
Get this right:
It's a game, with lots of experiences and you can make other mini games in it, like Fortnite Creative and so on, just with more child predators apparently.
However, that's not even the shocking part, the shocking part is the numbers!
Nintendo Switch as a platform has around 170 million users a month.
PlayStation around 126 million a month.
Steam around 78 million a month.
Roblox alone has 380 million users a month. So just one game has around the same global users as all of Steam, all of PlayStation and all of Nintendo Switch user base put together.
So Roblox player base wise is about the size of one PC Master Race players ego.
@biggestlozer28 But surely if trophies exist to represent hard work and “grinding”, why wouldn’t a trophy be more deservedly given to those who are physically or mentally handicapped and still achieve it?
Surely if trophies are assumed to mean something to those that lust so longingly after them, and they represent hard work and grinding, then by default they are not deserved by anyone but those afflicted in such a way where it is deemed hardest to achieve.
I mean do people really want to keep a trophy to themselves, to receive slow claps from the community for beating someone with Down syndrome to the “completion” of a game.
Remember the time prior to achievements when souls like games still existed? I do, and the completion of those means no less than it does now that you get a few pixels on a screen informing you of such.
You admit to coming here to read comments wanting gaming to be accessible to all, and those that want it to remain so to be brought down by your comments.
Ask the community outside of gaming how much your trophies mean to them, after explaining what they are and holding back their laughter, you’ll get an answer. And how you’d feel in that moment is how you attempt to make others feel here.
The point remains, if trophies indicate effort, those who are able minded, able bodied and neurotypical are the least deserving of them of all the gaming public.
So then we either need to change how we see them (as pointless trinkets that mean nothing in all reality but to mark an occasion in a game something we can all celebrate and look back on), or we need to admit they’re not for those of us who find them easier to achieve due to our natural given abilities that are no different to millions of other brains and bodies.
The person you replied to simply wanted to see that some trophies remain for people who still experience the same as someone else, they weren’t asking for the platinum for this title to be handed to them upon booting up the game.
At least your username is accurate, you even spell it wrong as if to hint at being even more “special” than your writing denotes. Maybe you should get a trophy after all.
Here, have this, it’s literally in the real world worth exactly the same as the platinum in this game upon release 🏆.
@Dalamar The irony of saying a participation award is of no significance when gaining a virtual trophy for an event in a game is literally gaining a trinket for participating in a set action.
Achievements, trophies, no matter the name, all born from the platform holders and developers wanting to track the behaviour of their consumers throughout the lifecycle of the game.
As in, it works to allow developers to tangibly see where you or I got to in a level and if we really valued the fact they made something pointless shiny to collect, or to hit 100 times or to survive X amount of time.
They then realised marketing that tracking to the public as an “achievement” instead of just, “Hi there, we’d like to track you in your gaming habits in your own home please!” Sounds significantly better marketing wise.
So quite literally, all trophies are put there to track a user, not for the sole purpose of the game itself, the game itself is funnily enough the game, the trophies sit outside of it as an extra trinket.
All trophies are meaningless and all are valuable, all depending on the eye of the beholder, but none are put there for the sole benefit of the consumer.
Stop pandering to marketing nonsense. Your wanting a trophy for achieving literally nothing meaningful in real life, is no different to a non-gamer than someone who games being shunned by you because they also would like a meaningless trophy for in your opinion not doing enough.
If your trophies don’t mean anything in your actual life, job, relationships, kids, colleagues, family and so on, they’re not worth gatekeeping.
You’re no different to a non-gamer shunning video gaming as “not a proper hobby”.
If you’re frustrated by someone getting a fake participation trophy, then that does apply to all trophies ever handed out by Sony thus far. As they’re all just simply trinkets for doing an arbitrary task.
The game itself can be for someone without the trophies being the maker of the game. And someone can desire to see themselves get trophies of some kind for participating in the same way you would like to also see yourself get them for your “hard work” sat on your ass twiddling your thumbs with a controller.
If trophies were a part of the game intrinsically from an artistic standpoint, vital to the experience, then all games on a Nintendo platform are meaningless.
Literally not one Nintendo game has an achievement like system built around the platform and operating system interface, yet somehow, as a gamer (not elitist entitled brat), I’m able to have just as much fun on a Switch 2 cross platform game as I am when playing on PlayStation.
Gatekeeping any part of the community needs to stop, there’s enough ridicule of people video gaming within wider society without more ridicule existing once you become a part of the community.
I adore the souls like games, but the sub community around them is so very toxic it’s saddening.
@Joel_Lives @TheSingularity As you well know, there will always be those that believe video games are of an elitist endeavour only, or simply not worth it.
I believe it must be linked to decades ago many being shunned for their hobby, now they’re so protective of it, anything that resembles fun for the sake of it is rubbished so they’re not lumped into the same category.
It’s the same as those that figure their music tastes are superior, when all they’re doing is arguing their response to noise is different to another, it’s all still just noise.
I will never forget those stating people purchasing Apple products are sheep, only to ignore the fact at the time Samsungs sold more, and Windows was still (and still is) the dominant player in the markets.
So therefore, by definition, rather laughably, once it becomes mass adopted to laugh at something perceived as having mass appeal, it’s the ones laughing that are then the sheep.
A video game is defined by being a visual interactive experience, meant to bring joy and entertainment. There is no definition that means it has to be a highbrow piece of artwork only admired by those attending Oxford and writing for The Guardian.
Now if only we could inform all of this and have the penny drop.
@Americansamurai1 I think that would be an amazing idea for them you know, many members of my friends and family would be all over that idea for them. They have shown they have the creativity to pull it off in a fashion that's ever so well suited to the genre.
Myself and my partner, along with a large portion of our family love playing their series of games. It will be a sad day indeed if they ever disband.
I sincerely wish them all well on continuing to find a way to produce what is loved by a few, who are clearly not enough for some of their artistic visions at times.
One of the few developers I love to play their content universally, even when at moments it could be argued it's an objectively bad gameplay moment ... I'm still somehow enthralled.
Well, that looks like a cool design for the wife, she absolutely loves Wolverine from the comics, so this could be a great birthday/Christmas purchase idea!
However, now I want the yellow controller too. Well, that's more money thrown at tat I don't need. It's a good job Sony doesn't have the same marketing team with their merchandise as Nintendo, or I'd be getting told off a lot by my accountant.

Re: Irate Physical Game Fans Prepare for Their Big PS5 Blackout
@CielloArc Yep, sure would. Again, another great suggestion no one is actually doing.
Honestly, I want people to take a stand, but people should also want to take a stand against stupidity.
More people stop playing their PlayStations for World Cups or SuperBowls. It’s just daft.
Ah well!
Re: Irate Physical Game Fans Prepare for Their Big PS5 Blackout
@Nep-Nep-Freak Haha, no worries at all. I just saw a lot claiming they will not play this coming week and then connect back up a week later, seemingly ignoring the fact it will tell Sony all they did during the week.
I only had an Xbox for Forza, so I totally get it! 😂
Re: Irate Physical Game Fans Prepare for Their Big PS5 Blackout
@Nep-Nep-Freak Make sure to never ever connect it to the internet again, otherwise it reports your activity for this week to Sony the moment it syncs back up with their servers.
Not trying to be condescending, just letting you know if it’s your intention to make Sony believe you’re not gaming that week, it would require you not ever connecting the console to the internet, otherwise it will report back to them even a year from now.
Re: Irate Physical Game Fans Prepare for Their Big PS5 Blackout
Re: Irate Physical Game Fans Prepare for Their Big PS5 Blackout
@ShadowRJ Very true! And my sister says that game is mint by the way for what it’s worth haha. Enjoy!
Re: Irate Physical Game Fans Prepare for Their Big PS5 Blackout
Re: Irate Physical Game Fans Prepare for Their Big PS5 Blackout
If this improves the Sony servers it'll at least make my group of gamer friends and family happy!
If this could be extended to not using social media, this site and so forth that would be great, thanks!
Oh, and a few thousand not logging into a server compared to millions won't make a difference.
However, I have got some popcorn and more than welcome the laugh, so have at it.
Re: After Online Storm, Here's the Truth About Wolverine PS5
Re: After Online Storm, Here's the Truth About Wolverine PS5
@LiamCroft Thanks for the preview snippets, Liam. Just wanted to also state, from reading your preview it's clear you are a fellow man from Derbyshire.
Your way of delivering facts like it's a lump hammer to a kneecap is exactly what is needed in this sea of misinformation and social media "hot takes".
Keep saying it how it is, directness in this article is appreciated from me at the very least.
Re: After Online Storm, Here's the Truth About Wolverine PS5
Re: Sony's New 'It Happens on PS5' Ad Has Gone Down Exactly as You'd Expect
Re: Sony's New 'It Happens on PS5' Ad Has Gone Down Exactly as You'd Expect
@Boxmonkey This website needs to bring in maximum character limits in the comments section. Some of these essays aren’t going to be read by anyone.
Yep, keep spamming that out like it's a thought completely unique unto yourself.
Just so you know, not wishing to read is an insult only directed towards yourself. If you do not have time to read and would prefer pictures, pick up a picture book or comic.
Re: Sony's New 'It Happens on PS5' Ad Has Gone Down Exactly as You'd Expect
@Dogbreath You actually make a very good point regarding digital ownership rights!
Re: Sony's New 'It Happens on PS5' Ad Has Gone Down Exactly as You'd Expect
Re: Sony's New 'It Happens on PS5' Ad Has Gone Down Exactly as You'd Expect
No.
Re: Sony's New 'It Happens on PS5' Ad Has Gone Down Exactly as You'd Expect
I want more of that.
Re: No Sony Characters in Fortnite's Big Gaming Celebration Season
Re: No Sony Characters in Fortnite's Big Gaming Celebration Season
Anyway, excited to have some silly fun!
Re: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4's PS5 Beta Includes Campaign Mission for the First Time
Really looking forward to it, should be some good fun with the mates! I’ll be there for the Beta play through for a little spicey shooty shooty bang bang action.
Re: This Ain't Yakuza! SEGA Showcases Stranger Than Heaven's Complex Combat with Live Gameplay Demo
@Andy22385 Haha, very true! I’ve inadvertently managed to time it perfectly, just can’t wait to get sunk in now.
That’s me satisfied with gaming for months now without needing to think of anything title much at all. Haha.
Re: This Ain't Yakuza! SEGA Showcases Stranger Than Heaven's Complex Combat with Live Gameplay Demo
@Ristar24 Brilliant points! It would seem I’ve got a lot to get through. Any game with a mini game within it is a win in my book. Gosh how I wish SEGA still did a console to satisfy my quirky childhood dreams haha.
We all know it would certainly be something outside the box!
Re: This Ain't Yakuza! SEGA Showcases Stranger Than Heaven's Complex Combat with Live Gameplay Demo
Re: This Ain't Yakuza! SEGA Showcases Stranger Than Heaven's Complex Combat with Live Gameplay Demo
@Andy22385 @ShogunRok
Cheers again!
Re: Round Up: Marvel's Wolverine Sounds Like Another Great Superhero Blockbuster in PS5 Previews
Re: This Ain't Yakuza! SEGA Showcases Stranger Than Heaven's Complex Combat with Live Gameplay Demo
Re: Promising PS5 Sim Rideshare Rocked by Crazy AI Controversy, as CEO Crashes Out in Public
Re: There's a New Indie Publisher, and It's Bringing All Its Games to PS5
Very much looking forward to their work, especially Precognition. I’ll keep an eye on what they produce moving forwards that’s for sure!
Re: We All Knew It Was Happening, But Hogwarts Legacy 2 Is Now Officially in the Works
Haven’t gotten around to playing this yet, but seen the films, read the books to my daughter when she was younger too.
All in all seems like a good franchise to work with for games. I might get around to it once the second game released at this rate!
Re: Hungry Fans Hopeful for Kingdom Hearts 4 Updates in Live Streamed D23 Panel
Gauging by the lack of overall comments here, the 'hungry fans' aren't remotely fans of Push Square.
Always personally loved the art style of Kingdom Hearts, just haven't gotten excited for it lately though. Will check this out.
Re: 'It's Really Sh*t': Disaster for Marvel Tokon as FGC Icon Uninstalls Botched PC Port Live on Stream
Re: 'It's Really Sh*t': Disaster for Marvel Tokon as FGC Icon Uninstalls Botched PC Port Live on Stream
@Leinad7 And why did you stop using your PC? I mean I did the same, and gave away my Xbox too. Didn't have the heart to charge someone for it, more fool me after the prices they now go for ha! So now it's PS and S2 for my foreseeable.
Re: Hyped PS5 Soulslike Mortal Shell 2 Has an Easy Difficulty Mode, But There's a Catch
@For-Kier I know some don't always get your directness, but my gosh I don't half love reading your sharp wit. We don't always agree, but I think that's great too.
For me it's about speaking sense in a sea of silliness, and for that I respect how you just cut to the chase on it all.
Re: Hyped PS5 Soulslike Mortal Shell 2 Has an Easy Difficulty Mode, But There's a Catch
@Llamageddon Very well said. I didn't quite word my diatribe as eloquently due to being rather irritated by the fact apparently it's all for one or none for all.
Kind of puts the notion of being a "community" up for debate. Anyway, very well said.
Re: Oblivion Remastered Could Finally Be Fixed on PS5 as Bethesda Promises 'Optimisations' Patch
Re: Helldivers 2 Joins PS Plus Extra Today Ahead of Full August 2026 Reveal

Let the fun begin!
Re: State of Play for Phantom Blade Zero Announced for Next Week, 11-Minute Trailer Revealed
Re: State of Play for Phantom Blade Zero Announced for Next Week, 11-Minute Trailer Revealed
Re: 'It's Really Sh*t': Disaster for Marvel Tokon as FGC Icon Uninstalls Botched PC Port Live on Stream
Re: Hyped PS5 Soulslike Mortal Shell 2 Has an Easy Difficulty Mode, But There's a Catch
Re: Hyped PS5 Soulslike Mortal Shell 2 Has an Easy Difficulty Mode, But There's a Catch
@allahver_fist Yes I’ll get good at mind controlling the lady on her mobile phone that hit me with her car. Thanks.
And not really, really passionate about participation trophies. Just really, really passionate about people who pay the same getting the same.
Now how about you ‘git gud’ at reading comprehension.
Re: Marvel's Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Consoles, Controllers Announced, Pre-Orders Next Week
@Markatron84 I can’t like your comment with a laughter emoji. So have a basic like instead!
Re: GTA 6's $100 PS5 Ultimate Edition Is Getting More Pre-Orders Than the Cheaper Version
Re: Marvel's Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Consoles, Controllers Announced, Pre-Orders Next Week
@Markatron84 Even with dinner first, imagine what they’d do after the second date!
Re: Hyped PS5 Soulslike Mortal Shell 2 Has an Easy Difficulty Mode, But There's a Catch
Re: Hyped PS5 Soulslike Mortal Shell 2 Has an Easy Difficulty Mode, But There's a Catch
Re: Sick PS2-Style Shooter Sprawl Zero Unloads on PS5 in September
Well, that’s a purchase from me that will take place. Sold. Wishlisted.
All I needed was the subheading.
I very much look forward to purchasing it and watching it unload all over my PS5.
Re: GTA 6's $100 PS5 Ultimate Edition Is Getting More Pre-Orders Than the Cheaper Version
Re: Dark Pictures Dev Forced into Layoffs to Ensure the Future of the Company
@Americansamurai1 I think that would be an amazing idea for them you know, many members of my friends and family would be all over that idea for them. They have shown they have the creativity to pull it off in a fashion that's ever so well suited to the genre.
Re: Dark Pictures Dev Forced into Layoffs to Ensure the Future of the Company
Myself and my partner, along with a large portion of our family love playing their series of games. It will be a sad day indeed if they ever disband.
I sincerely wish them all well on continuing to find a way to produce what is loved by a few, who are clearly not enough for some of their artistic visions at times.
One of the few developers I love to play their content universally, even when at moments it could be argued it's an objectively bad gameplay moment ... I'm still somehow enthralled.
Re: Marvel's Wolverine Limited Edition PS5 Consoles, Controllers Announced, Pre-Orders Next Week
