Re: 'It Isn't Something Carved in Stone': Xbox Still Unclear on Future PS5 Ports

ButteredCrumpet

@Swirly Yes, my partner had it two nights ago mid conversation whilst we were playing CoD in separate rooms.

She just logged in on the Sony account and within seconds, face scanned and problem solved. Pain in the backside to have to do as two adults with accounts, one of which is clearly old enough.

However, in this day and age sadly people sell their PSN/XBN/Steam and other accounts on eBay and the sorts, so technically having access to an account for X amount of time shows nothing anymore.

But yes, partner had it, did the face scan and all went well! Oh, and if you're wondering, they use Yoti for the verification, who delete the data afterwards as is required by law.

Can't remotely speak to what they use for elsewhere other than the UK though.

Re: 'It Isn't Something Carved in Stone': Xbox Still Unclear on Future PS5 Ports

ButteredCrumpet

I do love me some Forza, and of course things like Doom for me too, along with looking forward to Fable.

Whatever I like they throw at PlayStation I will pick up, and whatever they don't, I won't. Simple really. I think they would do themselves a favour going publisher only, but then I don't think that helps the consumer in the slightest with the lack of perceived choice.

Plus, anything like that would need to be after Helix comes to an end of course.

I do wish they would pick a lane and stick to it, simply from a consumer point their messaging has been really confusing of late.

Re: PS5's Regional Pricing Switch Has Players Concerned Yet Again, Here's What's Happening

ButteredCrumpet

@RawnDawn Hey! So as a person from an impacted country, would you say that this is a positive for you at first glance?

It’s just all the virtue signalling from people claiming to be angry about this and not being impacted positively or negatively is a little odd.

So, as someone actually from Mexico, on the surface of things is this beneficial for you?

Also sorry to hear you’re getting your stores closed first, that isn’t great at all!

Re: PS5's Regional Pricing Switch Has Players Concerned Yet Again, Here's What's Happening

ButteredCrumpet

Fantastic to read (yes I read the article unlike some who clearly didn’t), that Sony have amended this.

Also brilliant as an uplift that the wallet transfers will be more financially beneficial than they could be given the exchange rates.

As you state in the article Sammy, this could be a move that swings to benefit or go against people in those areas, depending on what takes place with tax and exchanges.

So could indeed be worse than what the present solution has been. Time will tell and I hope it’s better in the long run for all those impacted.

Thanks for explaining this too, as it seems awfully lacking in explanation from some other sources I found.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@PuppetMaster So, to address everything you stated in chronological order best I can.

I am aware you alone can not bankrupt Sony, nor am I worried if Sony do go bankrupt, it will not impact my life directly if most of the worlds consumer facing businesses cease to exist tomorrow, never mind Sony.

I play games because I enjoy them, I am not remotely concerned if I have to play elsewhere (as I do already sometimes), or never play at all (as I do sometimes take breaks and focus on a lot of other hobbies). As my main hobbies in life are actually music, motorbikes, travel, my allotment and much more. Gaming fills the gaps, it doesn't dictate or emotionally control me.

I am glad you have sympathy for Indie Devs, you would think it's a sign of weakness to admit with how few do, so I think that's great.

The reason I am here is the same as you, we both have things to say on a public forum about one of our many hobbies and passions. Seeing as many people tend to like what I have to say, as I'm sure they do with you, then it makes being here all the more worthwhile.

You seem to state you and everyone else who wants physical games to exist, like I don't. It may just be how it's typed. Anyway, to make it clear, as I have done throughout all of my comments, I actively fight for physical rights, consumer rights and want physical games to remain. So you are no more a physical game saviour, supporter or champion than I.

You mention barking a lot, I'm not sure if that gets you very far in Indonesia, I haven't been yet, but just a word from the wise, when you tell a woman or man in this country they're barking a lot, it tends to get the kind of result that doesn't end well. So lets stop trying to antagonise and instead play nice.

To bark means you are reducing my points to nothing, fobbing them off as codswallop, hogwash, they are not. My point of view is just as valid as yours. Telling someone to shut up isn't an adult way to hold a conversation or debate.

So, for the future, remember, I deserve the same level of respect as you on this website.

You seem to again bring up that you are on a crusade for more digital ownership rights, not sure if you've actually read much of what I've wrote at all on this site, but that's kinda my niche. I fight for the rights of ownership and consumers a lot in my comments. It just kinda gets lost in all the slurs and rocks being thrown.

You state don't reply to you again, well, here I am! You see, this is a public forum on the internet, and unless the site itself deems we can't reply, then we can indeed reply.

Anyway, that aside, I don't wish to put you on ignore, as I don't wish to live in an echo-chamber, the solution you are proposing is to post publicly, then when people have an opinion that counters yours, tell them to live in a chamber of self contained thoughts.

I like some of your comments, so I shall continue to read them and enjoy some of them. It's just on this, I think you have me wrong, or just refuse to read my comments. Either or.

So I am truly just confused as to why you think I dislike you, or physical games, or that I don't defend consumer rights and champion ownership ... but you're wrong.

Anyway, I think it's very late or incredibly early in Indonesia right now, so have a lovely rest if you can.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@ShadowRJ See, that's a clean and concise set of points and desires you state, I like that!

That is what people need to be sending to Sony directly. What you have just typed will come across to an educated person in the industry so much better than most.

The crowd that state things like "I hate Sony" (wow, bobby big boots hates us lads, what shall we ever do), "I won't buy another product" (Oh my, consumer won't consume, but is being replaced by people all the time coming of age and adopting brand).

I mean the list goes on, it's utter tosh. Leaders aren't leaders in any industry because they listen to uneducated people pretending to care and peddling their own woes, they listen to propositions, money, deals.

Vinyl came back/stayed because artists, the music industry leaders and consumers all banded together and sort of had an unwritten agreement. Artists want more money than streaming, vinyl is their proposed answer, consumers wanted something to consume and collect and pay for and were annoyed with streaming quality, lack of ownership. Money people, the leaders listened because that solution worked for them, and the rest is history.

Same for gaming, a person stating "I won't ever buy anything" again brings nothing to the table other than to tell a bunch of strangers they aren't going to consume (yet seemingly somehow consumes article after article and making their own blood boil).

Now if we take your points, expand on how they could also benefit Sony, then we have an argument to put forward. People seem to think this is impossible, but this is literally what unions and solicitors do the world over.

Sony ain't going to care if people moan online, but they will listen to solutions and take note of those who propose not being just a problem but also part of the solution.

I wish you did care about the digital store more, as in hindsight it may be the only location to buy modern games on any platform that is in your future, but that is the weakest part of your argument.

The strongest parts could actually get somewhere, now if only people wanted to band together, write something up and push it to the people that matter.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@ShadowRJ Do you not think Sony will ever change any terms and conditions or rights regarding material published on PS Store, as in at all, to be more competitive or due to laws? Or is it the case as long as you have physical you don't care?

As can you honestly say you have been this vocal about Sony lacking in consumer rights and empathy prior to them announcing the 2028 impending change, or did you only care when it impacted you directly?

Because from what I can tell as a reader of the site over the years, barely anyone other than the odd "I'm a PC user and won't stop selling it like I'm a Valve intern" crowd has ever really consistently brought up consumer rights and ownership rights.

I just find it odd that people with such a passion in life only seem vocal about it when it benefits them. It's beneficial to bring up ownership and consumer rights when the entire room is charged and riled up to agree, not so much when people wanted to just be happy about buying a game without concerning themselves over such things.

There's just an awful lot of virtue signalling taking place currently, and I'd actually appreciate it if people just stated more bluntly what they care about and don't. I'd have more respect for someone wanting to keep physical as they're just wanting second hand games to stay around and could care less about the online storefront.

I guess my largest complaint with all of this is one of human nature, people fail to see, relate or care at large until it's too late, and when it is too late and they're screaming, the rest of us who saw it coming just sit there wondering when they'll realise it's time for the last fight or the acceptance.

But the last fight has to be one that makes sense and actually improves things. So far people seem to be fighting to save physical going, if it comes back, that then means people are fighting for no more than what they have had for decades.

So, if they want more, use this as a platform to get more. Sony takes away with one hand, not good, okay let's see what we can get out of Sony from the other hand.

If all this noise is about fighting for what we have had for decades, which is a disc that we don't own the game of, we own the license, that's just such a fail when we could be aiming for the win.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@SquigglyJ But I think that's the important part about what you mentioned, what change is being brought about? So far there has been no positive change brought about for the consumer.

No one here is pushing Sony for better consumer rights, no one. Everyone is pushing Sony to reverse a decision they won't, so that they can purchase second hand games or keep boxes on a shelf.

None of this is about positive change in the industry for us consumers, if it were, well before Sony announced their plans people would have already been up in arms for years regarding a disc being a license, and digital being a license.

A small number of the gaming community is up in arms right now, and they are not focusing their energy on speaking in unison, and speaking for one singular good for the community.

I encourage people to speak up in an effort to push for change, but if you actually read online forums like this, and social media, many aren't asking for change, they are asking for the same rights that we have always had (so not change for the consumer for the better and not ownership), and some literally do just want to buy a product second hand for cheaper, that's it.

I agree with you in the sense that pushing for change is good, but actually reading comments of those that claim they want change shows very quickly how little people who are the most vocal know what they want. At the very least, if they do know what they want and that is consumer rights to change for the better (as we all should), then they're doing a very bad job of showing it.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@Dalamar You not having social media accounts doesn't impact how you communicate with Sony. Many CEO's and managers don't have social media too.

The people who you can state your opinion to, which actually make these decisions do have emails, assistants, secretary's, addresses for their work offices. So, you can by all means directly protest to them.

However, I think it's safe to assume like most causing a noise online, you haven't. I mean if you had clearly that's something you'd want to declare and inform others how to do.

And then your other point, if physical games don't exist you simply won't game moving forwards. Or at least purchase, okay, but digital game sales take place, on Valve, GoG, Epic, PSN, XBN and all sorts. I have bought games for a few pounds, many times over the years. I've waited, don't get me wrong.

I mean Sony's decision is to end physical media on their platform by 2028, so think of it this way, you've just said without said media you won't buy games, I take it that means all games and nothing digital.

If that's the case, then you cease to hold value to Sony, so they're not going to listen to the noise you're making online about not buying their products, they're going to focus their energy on marketing towards people on the fence, people unsure of digital, need more validation on their purchase etc.

If your best argument to put to Sony is if they don't produce discs you're no longer a consumer of their products, that is a decision I of course support, but it's not one Sony will listen to.

They know after all that many even on this site will and have bought digital, and if pushed will continue to do so.

So bark up that tree all you want, it's never going to produce the fruit you want because you shout at it.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@Llamageddon "I was empathetic to the cause but that feeling is eroding rapidly when it becomes this senseless."

That, right there is one of the many points I think should be really solidified into the memory of a lot proclaiming to be "fighting" for anything to do with this "cause".

A fire has been a positive thing in all of human evolution. Yet, it's old, it's an outdated method of remaining warm, cooking food and even outdated as a source of light. Now we can fight for the right to keep fires burning in our homes, despite the damage to the world and those around us, or we could of course just adapt to something cleaner and less troublesome.

Now we could have stomped our feet, made a stand and we could have even disrupted many a company, but ultimately, we would still have arrived here, whereby we turn on a source of heat and instantly feel the benefit and never think to light a fire again.

So, what is more useful nowadays, someone fighting for the right to have a log burner, or someone fighting for better rights to consumers using electricity, gas, hydrogen and so forth?

Physical everything will perish, it doesn't mean our rights as consumers should have to, but they often do, as people focus too much on what they are losing instead of what they can do to change what is coming instead.

Humans love to fight with their sticks, but it will never mean anything to someone with the power of a gun unless the man with the stick says something worth listening to.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@Dalamar And no one is providing you with game ownership. They provide you with a digital game (series of 0's and 1's) if you're lucky, and a license key (again in digital), on a medium that stores digital data.

You're not losing ownership by losing physical discs, you're losing physical discs that can then slide into a console and load the license, and if you're lucky an unpatched QA avoided version of the game.

I get people want discs, I love them too, but no one seems to actually want better rights, just the disc the same rights as digital sit on.

People should be voicing their desire to want a better store much like Valve, or GoG right now, but instead they're pushing for Sony to provide them with the same crap rights they always have, but in disc format.

We have a chance to tell Sony we want better rights as consumers, and instead we are telling them we want the same rights we have always had, but with the choice of a disc.

If you're going to fight for something, pick something more substantial than a digital key on a plastic disc that means nothing when a server or console bricks.

I'll go first;

Buying physical should grant a digital in the cloud license too.

Both should be tradable, much like CSGO skins.

Prices of physical shouldn't go up, but the price of digital should go down.

See, just off the top of my head I have formed a better set of points to fight for than "No Disc No Buy".

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@PuppetMaster Like i said in that Denshattack thread, there will be more devs caught in the crossfire if Sony stays silent.

Now, is that a threat, a declaration of intent, or something else. As I see you proclaiming to J'adore physical all up in here, yet you don't seem to be lambasting those who are rising up in your cause simply to cause disruption to those unable to change Sony's decision.

Go on, lets all gather together round this fire that simply refuses to burn out and proclaim once and for all we don't support causing disruption, hurt or anguish to anyone but those responsible for this decision.

And even then it should be level headed and well thought out no doubt. Just so we're aware that's the opposite to the majority of comments regarding this matter.

Sony should speak up about its long term plan, so come on, lets all draft a letter to Sony and speak up to them about this, that would be far more productive, no?

I'll wait, and expect to wait some time at that, so I'll pop the kettle on, take it yours is black to match your pot?

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@x3King84 You hit the nail on the head, one of the few things people should be focused on right now, they almost laughably aren't ... digital rights.

Anything else is simply people holding on to either perceived ownership (not actual ownership), or the ornamental element on a shelf.

I can't tell you how many times I keep telling people a disc is a license, the same as digital. Then I get them saying something along the lines of "Well it's better than nothing!"

Right, so then they're saying they're not fighting for better rights, they're fighting to keep a case on a shelf.

Then those that claim they are fighting for the rights of all gamers, and digital rights too, well I didn't see and hear these same people before Sony's announcement ...

Again, indicating their true argument is that they want a disc on a shelf, nothing more, nothing less and certainly nothing to do with rights for all.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@ShadowRJ I think more than anything you need to go into a browser, set it to private, don't log into any of your social accounts and search for this subject matter. Across Twitter, Reddit, here, Instagram, YouTube and so on ... it's getting bad.

I love physical, want it to stay for those who also love it, but no amount of talk on social media is going to make this decision go away, none.

Literally the only thing that will get the intended result is for people to purchase physical. They haven't been doing so in large enough numbers, so we both know they likely won't now just because a few people online tell them to.

Like when I went on this site to read the news about the fight stick being delayed, I wanted to jump into the comments to read about people discussing it, fighting games and so on. Instead, just jokes, memes, and a barrage of hate for anything Sony due to their 2028 decision.

How, as a stranger to this site, someone with a login or no login, that supports physical, does that make anyone feel welcome or wanting to support the cause on this site. I myself even gave up on the site that day. So PushSquare then loses an active user, myself and my friends laugh it off and get on with our evening.

Yet above all else, it did nothing other to infect the very subject matter than has nothing to do with physical games and put people off who would have actually liked to have a conversation.

Look at my likes on things, many of them are from people who never comment, but just look at the site, they're people who want to actually read gaming news, they want to discuss their passion.

All this site has been lately is a cesspool of discontent from people who need an outlet, understandably, but is this it now until 2028? I mean really, for another year and a half can I not talk to my mates here, can we not have adult conversations?

Just so someone can then say in January of 2028, "oh well, we tried". No you didn't, you didn't email Sony, you didn't send a letter to their CEO, you just carried on with your same purchasing habits and spewing hate and discontentment online.

Like have you emailed Sony? Have you sent the directors any emails? Have you contacted the pressing plants to focus your outrage? Are you going to write them a letter? This is my point, anything on this site, anything focused at an Indie Dev, none of it means anything. So people either need to realise their efforts are futile or they need to take up less futile methods.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@Balaam_ Sony's decision has hurt no one, none in fact unless they need to seek therapy. The actions of those online however, ranging from death threats and threats of other violence could very easily result in damage and hurt to people, yes.

Just because Sony has made a poor decision does not absolve those who are blindly throwing insults, disrupting lives and throwing pain at others.

I can say I support (insert rights name here) rights whilst punching someone at a Parade in the face, because I don't like that Snickers didn't keep their branding aligned to a flag, that doesn't mean I am not an actual idiot for doing so and would be liable for any legal action.

Re: Indie Devs Unfairly Attacked Over Sony Decision to Stop Making Discs

ButteredCrumpet

@ShadowRJ I would like to point out, when you state these people are not trolls, a considerable number of them likely will be. Look at any protests for rights, many, if not even most of late get infiltrated by people who simply wish to be an agitator.

There will be many that don't game at all, many that game on everything but PlayStation, many that buy digital only and so on. You're massively under accounting for the fact that humans like to disrupt, cause pain and inflict damage, and the moment they have a funnel to shoot their negativity through they will use it.

You say it's a shame that PushSquare is getting flack, but to be actually fair and to have a reasonable head on, surely it would mean you can see how media has played a much bigger part in stoking these flames than some Indie Devs that likely would never have had a physical release anyway.

These Dev teams that are getting flack literally have about as much input on the future of PlayStation as PushSquare do, which is to say, they have none.

The only thing that makes a difference is by people voting with their wallet (which up until now they have been quietly doing so, voting digital), so that's it, vote with wallet or nothing changes.

Anyone claiming this noise online will make a difference and not spread further hate must have evaded all news cycles for decades.

You even state the lack of countries PSN is available in, almost pushing physical as an incentive, yet PSN hasn't been available in many of these same countries since before physical was announced to be ending, and you didn't take issue. Or at the issue Xbox too also has more or less the same number of countries available to its users.

You want physical games, therefore the only message you should encourage people to act on is to purchase physical. Supporting and condoning any form of disruption to anything else only weakens the cause.

You're literally using arguments that match those of military's of the world when they say "Oh well, collateral damage to the cause". That's an issue, it's not something to be proud of.

If your clear message is that of wanting to keep physical, you need to be making it clear that's the only message you agree with. Otherwise you're aligning yourself with some potentially very dark instigators and agitators who will stop at nothing to cause disruption.

A bloke on this forum a few days ago, I won't mention his name, even he called for all of Sony servers to be hacked and brought down for everyone. So as someone aligned with your cause, he was calling for every card, PayPal, name, address, password, game save, game history, playtime, game in a library to be held by an Anon group.

Do we really want a future where fighting for a desire to play a video game results in people losing their rights under Data Protection Laws.

It's a sad day when this is all that can be achieved when gamers join forces, if this really is gamers fighting for a cause, they better hope this is the only cause they need to fight for.

And remember, renouncing stupid behaviour attached to your cause doesn't weaken it, it makes people like me listen and take note and want to help.

Re: DOOM Maker Continues to Repel Rumours It's Been Gutted by Xbox

ButteredCrumpet

@mvhess See, I prefer that, and as one of the self-appointed pompous a-holes of this group I formally declare that the new phrase!

And genuinely think you make a very valid set of points, I think I’m just done with seeing things like shill and bootlicker tossed around. But I get that’s personal preference of course.

Plus, if I were to insult Munkey there’s so many better adjectives I’d use!

All jesting aside, yes, the head count certainly doesn’t tell the whole story, and I do think it’s incredibly problematic when it’s said that “oh they’ll be fine!” As really the talent is what matters, knowledge of the engine, how the team dynamic plays out etc.

So yes, completely agreed. Though I don’t claim to speak on behalf of Munkey, I think one thing that they were expressing which I feel we all tire of, is speculation.

People really latched on hard to job losses, even much in the media have. Yet in a studio it’s going to be the talent that remains and gets brought in that matters.

So I think at a distance we all agree, and more often than not it’s how the machine of news cycles conjures up this narrative we should be a or b, when realistically we don’t have to be at all.

Anyway, I have to get back to another comment section on this site now, whereby I have people arguing with me in defence of a company, only to insult another, not realising I’m one of the few pointing out that I support them not either company.

Sounds silly doesn’t it? Welcome to my notifications!

Re: DOOM Maker Continues to Repel Rumours It's Been Gutted by Xbox

ButteredCrumpet

@Northern_munkey Agreed, I felt I landed flat on that too, I almost made more a joke out of myself there. Damnit.

I need an editor, that’s what I need! And you’re welcome, I’m just speaking what I would like to think is common sense, peppered with oddities that don’t always land clearly. 😂

Anyway, must dash, I’ve got a game of Twister to rush off too …

Re: DOOM Maker Continues to Repel Rumours It's Been Gutted by Xbox

ButteredCrumpet

@Northern_munkey @mvhess

shill
/shĭl/
noun

I) One who poses as a satisfied customer or an enthusiastic gambler to dupe bystanders into participating in a swindle.

II) A person paid to endorse a product favourably, while pretending to be impartial.

III) An accomplice at a confidence trick during an auction or gambling game.

1) If you look through many a thing wrote by Munkey, he’s definitely not ever tried to come across as completely satisfied with the industry. To therefore then swindle people into purchasing more, in fact some of his comments have put me off certain Sony IP.

2) Again, from Munkey’s comments he’s quite clearly not paid to promote any material for this site, Sony or anyone within the industry at large. He actively promotes level headed thoughts and stands up for the consumer far more than a lot of media has.

3) Lastly, you don’t know this man’s comments very well if you think he’d be an accomplice to anyone within this industry. It’s a dog eat dog race to the bottom and lowest common denominator.

I’m writing this, as this “shill” comment really gets seen a lot by mainly American commenters, and I’m convinced people don’t actually understand what it is to be a shill.

Trying to insult someone who doesn’t agree with you by assuming they must be a corporate plant is awfully weak as an argument when we are all on a corporate website, supporting the furthering of the corporate Sony business and purchasing their products.

So have at it argument wise, just know those watching will always raise a brow the moment you use that word and not remotely for the reasons you think.

Let’s encourage positive rebuttals and discussion as adults not cheap one liners. Leave the one liners to Sammy, he’s far better at the dad jokes.

Re: With Over 17 Million Starfield Players, Bethesda Commits to Sci-Fi RPG's Future

ButteredCrumpet

@BIG3 See, that’s what I gathered from the promo stuff I’ve seen. That this could really go on to be something that I actually can take a little deep dive into and chill in and not really ever rush to complete or race to any milestone.

Sounds silly, but my version of a “cozy game” is something like this and Alien Isolation. Where I can truly just zone out on another planet and nothing is truly relatable to my own life.

I think this could work out for me quite well, even someone getting all that toilet role in the corner of their ship or something that went viral, even that bit looked like my kind of zoning out haha.

I mean I’m someone who would play Gary’s Mod for hours and not need anything but simply taking me away mentally a bit.

Re: 'It's Totally, Totally Irrelevant': GameStop Boss Unfazed by Sony's Physical Discs Decision

ButteredCrumpet

@KidRisky Oh, see I think this is where it’s getting our wires crossed. I’m not remotely bothered or impacted by this.

All games media, the entire industry could go tomorrow and I’d still need to get up and go to work and look after my child and deal with the world as we all have to.

I know many may genuinely have passions they feel are worth fighting for on a gaming fan site, but I personally don’t feel anything is truly worth fighting for on a website that the company (Sony) won’t sit and read through, and none here will change their minds for the most part.

The only thing Sony historically seem to change cause on when it comes to their branding is financials, so I genuinely don’t like to think my opinion matters a jot, as I think that’s just misguided confidence in myself if I do that.

As for your digital games purchases conflicting with supporting the petition I don’t think they do, I certainly have not said anything of the sort. I support people forging for a better state of affairs for us all, doesn’t mean we have to all shop in the same way or same store.

Same with politics, I don’t mind who you vote for or your reasons.

But this is my point, the gamers in this equation aren’t what’s fascinating to me. We are all inherently selfish as humans and all rather obviously desire cheaper games, as we would be rather silly to not want cheaper forms of anything we hold dear in our lives, especially in this economy.

I also don’t mind where you game, gamed on PC for years and old enough to have watched Valve take away physical PC games whilst no one did anything like this about it. And have a large enough Steam library to realise when I lost my details it was just as troublesome as Sony in getting back.

But that’s neither here nor there, I don’t mind where or how any plays.

Funnily enough the only thing we seem to lightly disagree on is only one point you’ve mentioned. It’s that you stated the intentions of the petition holder and the motives of these businesses don’t matter to you.

That’s really it, they matter and are fascinating as an observer to me. So that’s all, I just think the motives behind the change can sometimes come back to haunt those that inspired the change in some ways.

The result they get isn’t always one that works for them, but sometimes more so the community they claim to align with.

You buying all those digital games (as I too buy a lot of them), supports Sony and speaks to Sony a lot more than a lady trying to sell us copies of Uncharted PlayStation Classics edition second hand etc.

So no, I know you don’t care, or find it fascinating as to what her motives are. But, that’s the joy of all this, I am different and do find it fascinating.

Much like how people don’t care how a TV works it just works. But there’s a lot out there that care for how it works. It doesn’t mean either is wrong.

So let’s just enjoy being different! We are gamers and share a passion in life, it doesn’t mean we have to share what else we care about within the wider gaming community though.

Re: With Over 17 Million Starfield Players, Bethesda Commits to Sci-Fi RPG's Future

You know what, I’ve never played this.

Now, as someone that dislikes pretty much all of their previous work, but adores sci-fi and games in space, will this be worth a try?

I don’t mind a bit of jank or anything, I actually sometimes find it hilarious, but is the actual experience worth it.

I have no idea what I’m really trying to ask, but I just know I may like it, but I don’t want to be convinced by someone who’s blinded by their previous work, as though that’s great for them that’s not a selling point to me at all.

So on its own, as a game in a singular sense, ignoring the development team, how actually is it?

@PuppetMaster I’m only asking for the sake of interest not baiting etc.

However, as you seem to be confident in what won’t sell well in Japan, do you have any suggestions as to what would sell well in that market?

I only ask as a lot of journalists (not here but others I’ve read over the years), in the Western hemisphere seem to focus on what won’t do well too.

Yet I’d be fascinated to hear from people what they think would do well in Japan gaming wise. They seem to prefer portable for rather obvious reasons (lack of physical space at home, community driven mindset to gaming discussions more so than ours, travel and work more on public transport etc), but is it now just portable would you say?

As in literally do the Japanese market just want portable devices, or home consoles that say Nintendo on them, or is there something else you’d suggest would work?

@LowDefAl Hey there! Only asking as you seem like a bit of a fellow nerd haha. Do you happen to know if the bluray production for film/tv media is going to be impacted by any of these processing plant decisions?

As I know we all love games and so forth, but CD’s, vinyl and Bluray is where it’s at for me as far as where I spend the most on physical items. I just haven’t seen documentation out there that speaks of this being anything that’s happening to anything other than games from a production moving/closing/being assigned elsewhere etc.

@KidRisky Oh, I think you’re trying to conflate multiple things here to somehow take out your anger at Sony, instead directing it towards me.

So shall we just clear up a few things before this turns into yet another thread on this site that gets out of control with rage bait bull.

I support second hand, I support first hand physical. I buy music, film, TV and games physically. Though due to convenience of how I use games I buy more digital of late.

All I was pointing out in what I wrote was the following;

To me, as in me, so that won’t be to you, or your opinion, as a person speaking for himself … I find the lady’s blatant misunderstanding of what the rights are surrounding an item she sells misguided at best, and laughable at worst.

And I do not believe in the notion that she is fighting for the preservation of games, as she is not fighting for games on discs to be owned, she is fighting for them to continue to be printed so she can sell them.

Her entire business model relies on discs of today and yesteryear, so one can only assume her intentions with the petition were to mainly support her own business model, not the desires of the community for which she markets to.

However, that’s the interesting part again to me, in that they can both compliment one another. This persons desire to continue the business model they have, can indeed benefit those she may not even care for, and vice versa.

However, for myself, I just found some points she has made interesting along with her intentions.

And no animosity towards her personally either. I just find a business (PNP Inc) trying to petition a business (Sony/PlayStation) because they don’t have a strong business without Sony rather interesting to look at on a personal level.

I mean many second hand games stores could provide a small royalty fee to the industry for each game sold, but they don’t, libraries do, but second hand game stores don’t.

So any second hand game she has sold of SEGA, Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft has had little to any benefit be seen by those companies, yet she expects them to listen.

It’s just fascinating from an observational perspective. Watching those that make money fight for themselves and their justification and how that is latched on to by the wider gaming community.

But no animosity towards any of these companies, I don’t have that much emotional allowance I provide them to begin with to feel that much for them.

I’m simply an outsider to those in this businesses looking in and seeing flaws and intentions on both sides of the fence that are worth noting. Doesn’t mean I want to brick their windows or hate on them for all of eternity.

My comments towards that lady are tame in comparison to many of the comments I’ve seen from those demanding physical stay, that are directed towards humans on social media too.

So use any energy you have to fight for your cause, not me, I also support the cause, doesn’t mean I can’t see the hypocrisy on a company making money off an industry and providing next to nothing to it claiming to be for anything but themselves. Which again, I fully support, but there’s intentions in there that can be selfish and worth noting. It doesn’t mean the actions don’t also benefit us.

EDIT: I think of it this way, you or I bought ten new games today, we support the industry, our hobby and tell Sony to keep physical games around, far more than if she sold 100 physical games second hand.

Re: 'It's Totally, Totally Irrelevant': GameStop Boss Unfazed by Sony's Physical Discs Decision

ButteredCrumpet

@Grumblevolcano Absolutely, and sadly the sales of games in all these stores (other than second hand) is down.

Most of the stores you mention other than CEX (focuses on second hand items that don’t support any company other than themselves), have all been struggling with their high street presence.

Argos could never sell another item again other than games, and if those who want games bought physical there they’d likely not have had to be at the back of a supermarket that’s also failing.

This is my point, the industry of first hand games sales has been failing for years, second hand markets of course won’t be, but then they also don’t support the industry so the industry isn’t exactly going to brown nose them either.

It’s an odd state of affairs, I grew up without needing to go to the back of a supermarket or sports store to buy a physical game, it was just a local friendly bloke/lady who served a game, had a chat and I left.

No loyalty card, no push for anything else. Yet now they went, because people didn’t buy enough physical games first hand from them.

I just don’t think the people who want physical to stay as an option realise just how few they are compared to the masses. Everyone I knew used to buy physical, now I’m one of only a few people I can even think of that bothers.

ButteredCrumpet

@KidRisky Well, of course, people are always upset, there is always discourse and discontented people in every form of society that has anything passionate they hold dear.

But the movement itself has been propelled by the petition, heard mentality on forums and so forth. So I’m just pointing out that the lady that helped to push the movement cares about as much as Sony.

Which to me, in my personal opinion is worth noting. That and her clear misunderstanding of what the legal rights surrounding items she makes a living off selling are for consumers.

Re: 'It's Totally, Totally Irrelevant': GameStop Boss Unfazed by Sony's Physical Discs Decision

ButteredCrumpet

And just to add GameStop has gone the way many UK stores have done, all merchandise and so forth because that’s mainly what was selling. The consumer has driven this demand, and I’m just as to blame as I buy just as much digital.

GAME is even now at the back of a sports store next to jock straps and paddle boards due to literally barely anyone on the high street using it to purchase anything rather than walk through it or parking, and even then preferring to not buy physically game wise.

Otherwise the industry wouldn’t be in this position to begin with.

We need to keep physical options open to all, for preservation, cheaper alternatives, all sorts of arguments, but we also need consumers like me to feel compelled to go into a store like GAME in the first place.

And once I’ve had an argument with a staff member over the game I’m buying, they’ve asked if I want a membership thrice, then used my postcode to find an old membership to then tell me I have points, to then upsell me.

I mean it’s not the physical game I have an issue with half the time, it’s the fact that those selling to me are my age and acting like they’re desperately selling me their wares from their mothers basement.

Re: 'It's Totally, Totally Irrelevant': GameStop Boss Unfazed by Sony's Physical Discs Decision

ButteredCrumpet

I mean the petition was started by a lady in Canada that runs a second hand game store and that’s her main bread and butter.

So whilst I agree Sony couldn’t care less about us all on a micro level, neither could she realistically.

She’s hardly the owner of a mom & pop store as many call them, her site even offers wholesale and bulk pricing orders.

It’s just important to point out this whole movement so to speak gained traction due to a company claiming they want second hand games to remain, yet that’s the weakest argument you could put to the industry, as that’s the main area they make no money from.

At the end of the ladies 250,000 signature milestone, she updates with a closing statement “ This was never about one store or one console. It's about whether you own what you pay for. Let's keep it loud.”

That right there again weakens her argument for her true reasoning. It’s about whether you own what you pay for, exactly, and therein lies the issue though doesn’t it. As she’s just another person peddling the fact you own a disc and license but not the game in perpetuity.

I want physical games to remain, but people really need to take this opportunity to focus on what’s important, our rights as gamers. A lady in Canada fighting for the ownership of disc based games has already lost that fight, as you don’t own disc based games.

But the fight for her store to have more money milked from people wanting to play retro games hasn’t ended has it?

And always check charity shops for second hand games over these types of businesses, as an old disc from yesteryear with a license not legal right to play shouldn’t cost anything more than a beer coaster.

Fight for rights not licenses on pretty discs. And don’t be afraid to call out the fact that someone starting a petition due to fear of losing an aging business model isn’t on your side either.

But, better the devil we all know, right?

The idea of tearing anything internally sounds like a living hell, so hopefully the chap goes on to make a full recovery and goes on to bigger and better things.

As for the show, I’m struggling to get through Ragnarok currently, and haven’t even gotten around to watching TLOU TV adaption, so I really don’t need or want anything like this personally.

I’m all for it for those that like it of course, there’s just something for me about a film or TV show adapted from a game that’s already heavy on the cutscenes or in game chatter and so on. They just never really seem to add anything worthwhile that I didn’t get story wise or feel during playing the game.

Hope it goes on to be a great success for all involved though, and please, no more tearing of anything.
