One of the most interesting things about Stranger Than Heaven is that developer RGG Studio isn't just repurposing the action combat of its previous games.

Instead, the Japanese studio's crafted a new system that sees players control the individual limbs of protagonist Makoto Daito. It appears to be a much more technical take on street brawling.

When the combat was first revealed, a lot of Yakuza fans didn't know what to think — including myself. There's clearly potential here, but the general worry is that the system might be a little overwrought.

Fortunately, SEGA's made the whole thing a bit easier to understand via an in-depth livestream (which you can find at the top of this article).

After running through a tutorial video, the presenters give us a live demonstration of the action, starting around the 12 minute mark.

The demo lasts a good 12 minutes or so, and you get to see all kinds of stuff, from a bit of casual exploration to full-on knife fights. But again, combat is the focus, and the hosts do a good job of explaining the ins and outs of each mechanic.

Personally, based on everything I've seen of Stranger Than Heaven so far, I think this combat system's still going to take some getting used to. You're clearly going to need a decent understanding of timing and spacing, especially when you're up against multiple opponents.
