@OmegaStriver agreed. It’s a good looter/shooter, but what does that actually mean, ya know? I get so bored of this style of game so quickly. The gameplay loop is just so simplistic and the skill gap gets so wide that I’d rather be mastering a combat system in a single player for 70 hours rather than dropping in on the same map for the 100th time with the same plan as last time. I can barely dump 20 hours into them before I find myself hovering over the icon while considering deleting it. And it seems like that’s a pretty general consensus. Arc Raiders and Helldivers 2 are exceptions in that I got bored playing them after 40 hours. They’re great community games where friends can run around together, but they’re just not sustainable.
@OmegaStriver good points. I don’t think Marathon is bad, but it’s not as good as Arc Raiders. Hope they still find a following, for Bungie’s sake haha
I’ve had a good time thus far. Shooting feels good, combat is spicy, particularly against other teams. Any decent looter/shooter does that well. Would really like to see the time it takes to open a chest or dead drop to a liiiittle quicker. I know they want it to be a little more time consuming. But still. The classes are interesting but still a bit imbalanced, but they’re working on it. The feel of the world is cool though. It’s gaudy and I dig it.
The only real complaint I have is the community. Last night, the PS rating was around 4 and a half. I think even at 4.6ish. Today, it’s 3.19. Ain’t no ***** way that the people review bombing it actually truly played it from when I went to bed last night at 1 AM East Coast US time and when I had a chance to hop on and play it briefly today at 2:00 EST in order to drop it that much. It’s shambolic and one of the grossest things about being a video gamer.
@ButterySmooth30FPS they’ve done great stuff, but you’re right. Demon Souls was a PS5 launch title, and we’re almost at the year the PS6 was originally going to launch in. I hate it for em, but as we are all aware, good games don’t guarantee longevity.
@8bitOG cool, but my guy, you’re in the absolute minority which means you’ll never be truly happy with anything, so I don’t think that we or the gaming companies really care what you have to say. 🤷♂️
@Northern_munkey of course! And we should make a stink about it. They should regret it, and it should be a mark against Hermie for the rest of his hopefully-not-too-long Sony career. But I’m not gonna throw my toys out the pram.
@Northern_munkey absolutely. It’s a great generation to me! I’ve played nothing but absolutely bangers since I bought my PS5, and my backlog just keeps growing. These crybabies? I ain’t got time for them. If they don’t like it, it’s because they’re playing generic F2P/live service slop.
There is absolutely no way that Xbox can return to anything that remotely looks like console exclusivity. Timed releases with Day 1 Game Pass PC “exclusivity”? That’s a bit different. But if you think that the PlayStation market is not of critical value to Xbox now, then you haven’t been paying attention.
This is total bunk. I enjoy playing around with 40k Tacticus, but no regular gamer with a taste for anything other than F2P garbage is getting lured like this. This is just an excuse for production companies to lean more into the gacha industry.
@8bitOG if you can only count on one hand over the years “good” games on Essential you either have too high of standards or can’t identify a good game when it literally drops in your lap for “free.” And you still didn’t answer my question. XBOX worth it? Nintendo Online? And sorry, most people don’t want to sit around for 2 hours optimizing every game they play or investing in a 2,000 dollar rig that they have to build themselves. Your sense of “value” is questionable and quite exclusive.
They can do this by increasing the value of elements that they are already monetizing. Make Premium truly worth it. Continue to drop excellent games on the Extra level. The “F2P” folks will take care of the rest. They’ll keep eating up the live service BS while complaining about it on Reddit.
@Katsuhono of course, it’s like dudes piling on their favorite sports teams despite never kicking/throwing a ball in a meaningful competitive environment in their lives. Everyone has an opinion and most of em stink.
Say what you want about the Horizon games’ stories and Aloy’s lack of character development (I don’t mind either), but there’s no question that Decima makes the best Open World games based on the look and feel alone.
It’s like watching a smart, uncoordinated person carry a tray full of expensive fine china… they know it’s not going to end well, but they’re trying their best to act like they have it under control, while the rest of us are just bracing for impact.
@Dogbreath the last part absolutely. The first two points…come on, man. You been playing games for way too long to still have such an immature and underdeveloped perspective.
Amateur analysis in most markets is generally slop. That’s because gaining credentials in most likes of media coverage actually does matter, providing one with a foundation upon which they can inform the less informed. This is gaming tho. Most of the “amateurs” are quite informed! Plus, who cares what my ***** take on an otherwise well-reviewed game is? The real issue, like he is saying, is that the big companies can be the most biased.
Wow, what a month! 4 games I was interested in but haven’t bought yet. That’s 100 bucks’ worth of games I would likely have never dropped. Way to go, Sony.
Love my Portal. Got it for Christmas, and I’ve been playing Shredder’s Revenge, Skate Story, and Death Stranding DC. Best accessory purchase in a long time.
Ecosystem gaming has changed the market. People multiplatform less, plus it’s not a great time to spend big on systems right now economically (at least in the US).
Can tell that a lot of you don’t have much taste! They’re just riffing on the success of Alan Wake 2, which was an excellent game with two protagonists on an intertwining narrative.
Please! ***** EA. I hope they sell off all their quality IP’s to just run a bunch of garbage forever games. Let us intermediate to dedicated gamers (just ya know 60+% of us) enjoy our single players!
It sounds awesome! I’ll be sticking with my OG PS5 until it gives up the ghost, but I’m very excited to see the maximized end product of all this on the PS6 + handheld bundle for 700 USD in 2027 (speaking it into existence).
The discounts only hit them short term. As we’ve seen covered a lot this past year, we are in the ecosystem gaming era now more than ever. Those PS5’ers will likely be on board for at least an entire generation, if not longer. Good strategy that will pay dividends for a decade.

@8bitOG it’s overvalued in comparison to what? And don’t say the Steam store. Exclusively within the console market, what is better?
