Sony's State of Play broadcasts have become a real highlight of recent times — especially since the ongoing coronavirus pandemic has put an end to many live gaming events. The Japanese giant has refined its showcase format over the last couple of years, with deeper insights into titles like Ghost of Tsushima and The Last of Us: Part II doing a lot to help sell their respective visions.
But now that the PS5 has launched and we're looking ahead to the console's first full year on the market, we have to wonder when Sony will make its next move. The company is eyeing another blockbuster year for PlayStation, with a number of exclusive games already lined up for release over the next 12 months.
Just to recap, we've got Destruction AllStars, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Gran Turismo 7, Horizon Forbidden West, and God of War Ragnarok all slated for launch in 2021. And although we're not quite sold on the likes of Ragnarok actually releasing this year, the arrival of even just a few of these games gives Sony a lot to think about.
And so with that in mind, when do you think that the next State of Play will be? Can you see it happening soon? Destruction AllStars is coming to PlayStation Plus in February, after all — but maybe Sony won't bother with a full showing? Vote in our polls, and then feed us your best predicitions in the comments section below.

Just want a glimpse of Kratos only..... That was my state of play
Their next state of play will be exactly on February 29th, 2021 at 4:21 PM.
-ACCURATE PREDICTION NINJA APPROVED-
I reckon there will be one soon for Destruction All-stars. There has still been very little revealed about the actual gameplay.
I think that Returnal and Kena will get covered, too, maybe at the same time as DAS, or maybe later in February.
I think it would make real sense to show Returnal, Destruction All Stars and Kena in a state of Play in February as they're all some form of exclusive (console exclusive for Kena) releasing in February and March and we haven't seen gameplay demos for any of them, just trailers.
Sprinkle in a few minor surprises (Sunset Overdrive or Alan Wake remasters please) and some indie game trailers and you have a winner!
That State of Play where they revealed the PS5 is still the only time I've seen the console
I hope they make a SoP for Returnal.
I really love the idea of the dedicated games State of Play. They same they did for GoT and The Last of Us Part 2.
Matter fact, I would want that for every upcoming exclusive.
It gives the impression of Sony themselves believing in that project. And Returnal definitely deserves a big spot light. Especially seeing stupid comments like "that game is overpriced" while not knowing the game at all is really ignorant.
But I also welcome a general SoP soon. But at latest for Returnal a dedicated one would be awesome.
Shoot, I’ve been wondering when Nintendo will have its next Direct and I forgot all about State of Play. I could go for both.
I'd like one in March that focuses on Returnal, Kena, Solar Ash, Little Devil Inside, Deathloop, Ratchet and Clank, and maybe one unannounced SIE game.
Sometime in March focusing on Returnal.
Never. We’re doomed. The world is ending.
They are going to do one for Returnal, Kena and Ratchet. Maybe show off Destruction All Stars. I'm thinking next month. I think Returnal is going to be a big hit because it's getting big buzz. Then we might see a surprise from Hideo Kojima.
Before the next general Nintendo Direct
I voted March as isn't that when Ratchet and Clank is out???
There will be a state of play based around Ratchet is my guess
@shonenjump86 Same here. Completely forgot about Playstation.
It's all about the Resident Evil showcase next week Sony can wait
Rather than a state of play, hows about letting us know when more ps5 stock will be landing. The only way to get one has been through scalpers for nearly 2 months now.everyone is expected to check retailer websites daily for stock to land in the hope to stand a chance at beating the bots/scalpers. This is becoming very tedious after so long...
@Grimwood they gonna reveal release date for Kena, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart and other upcoming games
i hope they doing state of play event in Early February
@JAMes-BroWWWn you forgot about Kena Bridge of Spirits, Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart that need a release date
State of play is great for single big games. If sony did multiple games, there's always people that's disappointed.
Hopefully not until they have something new and significant to announce, otherwise people will just complain about it being full of stuff they already knew.
Destruction All Stars doesn't warrant a State of Play - they are releasing it for free at release, which indicates they don't have faith that it will stand on it's own feet. It'd be bizarre to champion a game they don't believe in.
The start of March gives them time to remind everyone of the upcoming games (Returnal, etc.), and they'll show a few updates for big hitters to get some headlines.
Probably around March/April time when PS5 hardware is apparently more readily available.
I can see a State of Play soon with Destruction, Kena, Returnal all coming out soon. It would also be nice to get updates on Ratchet and Horizon II.
Keep the momentum going Sony
The sillyness!
Console isn't even properly available. Won't that be something they should be taking care of first?
I understand people with a console need info and games but they too should understand that loads don't have one. It's a mess really!
Idk but I hope they start talking soon. If games like Ratchet, Horizon 2, or according to them God of War 2 are coming this year then they need to start talking about them and marketing them. Would also be nice to get word on firmware updates for the PS5 to enable external HDD support for PS5 games and fixes for some annoying ongoing issues.
Heck Destruction All Stars is coming out in 2 weeks on PS Plus and they've barely talked about it.
I think it will be on the next several weeks and will focus on RATCHET AND CLANK, but also show a few other titles.
I'm not sure they'll have one for Destruction All-stars. Why bother? They're giving it away with PS+ and they've sold out of all the PS5s they could ship. I think the next one will be when they have something to say about Ratchet and Clank in Spring or maybe a bit later. They need the game to sell well and I suppose they'd like to wait for more PS5s to be out in the wild before they release it too. A fresh flux of console owners will help shift quite a few units at full price.
State of Plays for a single game are just the worst (same goes for Nintendo directs)! It's the quickest way to fatigue the hype straight of of me. A quick gameplay overview trailer, if provided by the dev. is all you need.
June 15th the E3 replacement state of play because Sony will not be attending it.
We need a state of play episode
Now more then every.
WTF is going on with sony!!
The tech giants start to monopoly the industry and taking everything with them
While sony is taking a nap
I’m expecting a delay of newer releases and more PS5 patches for current titles.
Full roll out of more next gen patches, would be a great move to distract from the obvious delay in 2021 off the end of the pandemic, and wouldn’t be a nightmare solution, considering so many are still yet to have a PS5
I'm definitely thinking sometime in Spring, so March or April.
We'll probably get news on multiple titles, some being exclusives.
My prediction is there is going to be a State Of Play this year, if all goes well.
