@Thegamingzombie Nope. I like the light bar as well. It definitely makes it easier to identify the controllers during multiplayer sessions and I like the nuances of the light changes during some games.
Also it is a built in Move controller for when my kids want to mess around in the Playroom.
Oh I completely understand where you are coming from which is why I was saying that Sony's current philosophy of inclusion of more devices through its streaming service will encourage stronger sales for not only their mobile devices etc. but their consoles as well. So I think you'll get to see those cherished unboxing moments in the future
@BornOfEvil Don't be. Sony is hedging its bets here but after the PS4's very successful launch I think they are more committed to the PS console more than ever. I think that PS Now and the any device concept will be their Trojan Horse that actually helps sell gaming hardware and keeps the PS brand alive and well for at least a few more generations.
I just hope Gaikai actually works. So far game streaming services like OnLive have been slightly disappointing but with it being used for past gen games it could work well.
I take excerption to the notion that the Vita's library is "small." The Vita's library is rather large actually at well over 200 available titles. The Vita is plagued by numerous issues none of which have to with the size of it's games library.
"The publisher mentioned that the controller will flicker orange and red when protagonist Lara Croft employs her torch – a clever but completely unnecessary utilisation of the light bar."
I tend to play in the dark. I have already noticed the light bar change color during game play and while it is subtle it adds that oh hey that's cool factor when I do tend to notice it. Plus the light bar makes it very easy at a glance to identify your controller after taking a break during multiplayer games AND it works with the camera for Playroom and other Move titles.
I like it and hope it stays as is. Maybe I'm in the minority but I'd have to say the minority in this case is smarter than the majority
Not sure how anyone's interest would drop at this info. I am even more jazzed about the game knowing there will be some other combat mechanics beside shooting everything in sight. Lets just hope it is some kind of canned thrown in feature that can only be used on certain levels.
I'm torn on this. On one hand I find it rude to not send back the item as you did not order nor pay for it. I know they made the mistake but "they" is a broad term as there are no name employees who create the error and it could even have been a disgruntled employee's revenge on the company etc. etc.
But on the other hand I am all about businesses doing right by its customers and not treating theme with disrespect which those follow-up letters certainly were. I also feel like this retailer could have publicly turned the mistake into free publicity by claiming it was an early Christmas present for its customers or something and just taken the loss.
@NorthLightSuplx Yes any 3.5mm headset can be used to stream the audio away from your TV. Its a great feature when you need to be quiet but want to be able t hear your games.
@KALofKRYPTON Same here. I even took my launch PS3 on two tours through Iraq. Finally died here at home after quite a few reflow procedures and my wife on her own volition just went out and bought me a PS3 slim less than a week after it died. God, I love that woman!
The update sounds great. Looking forward to the camera integration and multiuser trophies across all games this gen!
Have to get myself a Vita before I get excited about remote play. Never worked well enough for my tastes between PS3/PSP so I remain very skeptical but hopeful. Reviews on the feature in the wild will determine whether I buy a Vita.
Otherwise the update sounds promising and I can't wait to check out the new UI and use my real name for my handle!
@Visiblemode Contrast IMHO is more than enough (not that I'd hate it if Sony added even more games) and since DC will still have a PS+ version when it finally does release this shouldn't really affect anyone's overall enjoyment of the system. There are plenty of great games available at launch and I know I'll be busy trying to get through them all before the next crop of anticipated titles comes out. I am just as excited as I was the day I preordered my console.
@Visiblemode That is a GREAT point. I would argue however that there is plenty of hype surrounding Watch Dogs which should carry it over until its eventual release AND this delay will serve to make the game better and give it some distance between it and the release of GTA V. Also Ubisoft has AC4 coming out so there will be plenty of open world gaming to be had all the way up until the release of Watch Dogs, The Crew and The Division.
This is a bummer but I dispute the notion that it is a disaster, provided it doesn't affect those who preordered the bundles still actually get a launch console. I am sure Ubisoft and/or Sony will be offering some sort of goodwill gift (free year of PS+ perhaps) and those who get the bundle will get a discounted price or a voucher for the game for when it is finally released or possibly a different title all together.
All that aside I am glad Ubisoft decided to delay it if they felt it wasn't ready. Not only would it ruin what looks to be a great new IP before it gets a chance to grow into a true series but would definitely hamper the excitement of the next gen for those of us brave early adopters.
It'll be fine as long as they offer something for the delay and put out a good game that was worth the few month wait.
Honestly KZ always looks good. This one is no different. That said, it's not on my day one list. If anything I'll wait to pick it up later used or on PS+.
@photofool83 Agreed! Game is very fun and a true remake for the original Genesis game. I'm playing Castle of Illusion and Puppeteer with the kids. Two very great games that deserve a lot of praise and sales IMHO.
Here's hoping there will be a discounted price for those who have already purchased the PS3 version and/or PS+ discounts. I loved the game but not sure I am dropping a whole lot of cash (it'll probably be pretty cheap I know) on a game I already played just for some prettier graphics.
@ShogunRok Not sure how much better Journey could even look? That game was gorgeous on PS3...
@rjejr I have Skylanders on PS3 for the whole family and we are getting a PS4 so this might get me to get more Skylander stuff. I really wanted to jump on the Disney Infinity bandwagon but since we are going next gen and getting rid of the PS3 and there is no next gen version of Infinity this makes Skylanders all the more attractive to us. That is as long as the current figures work with next gen games...
As a newly converted Windows Phone 8 user (seriously MS and Nokia have made some great phones) here's hoping Sony will work on a Windows Phone version as well. I know it's the enemy's device but there is PC remote play etc. and I am sure there will be a windows version of this app so I hope they will at least consider it... Because I am not switching to an Android or (shudders) iPhone to have access to the app. And I am not planning on getting an XB1 any time soon even though I have Smart Glass which IS available on all the other mobile ecosystems.
I have this game preordered as I have kids who play and it is also a game that looks interesting to me. No it's not Watch Dogs, AC4 or Destiny, Killzone etc. but it seriously does look fun. Plus it is a welcome departure from the pew pew, blow em up, rated M crop of titles coming to the next gen consoles. Glad to hear it is shaping up day by day.
@Lopezdm Which is why these types of day one issues won't be going away anytime soon. If people put more pressure (not threats or trolling) on the devs for things like this perhaps these issues would be a thing of the past or at least much less frequent. I don't think it is something people should base their lives around but come on, just resigning ourselves to these types of launch day disasters is one reason they won't be going away any time soon...
@get2sammyb While you are right that both the PS3 and 360 will continue to be popular I don't see them as a "problem" as they are making money for their respective companies allowing them some much needed wiggle room to take chances on the newest consoles. The next gen consoles are going to sell and sell well despite the continued success of the last gen consoles. It's good news for the console gaming landscape.
@charlesnarles This avatar you see here will be my profile pic... I am glad to know we can get away from our PSNID if we like... I hate mine but I have so much content and trophy data associated with it I just can't part with it so having photos/'real names' is very exciting to me!
While I DO hope the background colors can be customized I really hope there will still be custom/dynamic backgrounds a la PS3. While it looks like the XMB is still underneath it all I doubt there will be much to customize in the way of that so I hope the background/theme options will remain as cool as they are on PS3.
@Splat LOL yeah same on my friends list... Me however I am playing Puppeteer. Skipping GTA V because I am selling my PS3 (by order of the wife) very soon to help offset my PS4 cost and I am holding out hope it will eventually release on PS4.
If the Vita TV gets Roku/Apple TV like support then I am on board... I will need some TV watching/video streaming apps to make it worth the buy otherwise I will just get a real Vita and skip it. I'm getting a PS4 so I'll have my big screen gaming device. And while the remote play on a second big screen is definitely attractive I'd rather spend the extra $99 for a real Vita device and play on the go, on the couch or in bed with the Vita's smaller screen.
@charlesnarles Same here. I am looking forward to the basic functionality like facial, controller/profile recognition and video chat. Play room looks like fun for the kids as well as they loved Eye Pet for PS3 so it'll get some use in my house. All in all, having to purchase it separately likely saved us all $40 so it was a good move (no pun intended) on Sony's part.
@get2sammyb This. Ps3 had tons of games that used dedicated servers while MS was using P2P for its biggest franchises i.e. Halo, Gears of War etc. This gen MS has decided to cash in on the years of XBLG fees to fund a supposedly more robust server farm. Sony is not ditching dedis. In fact now that Sony has decided to make online multiplayer a premium we'll no doubt see Sony games running dedicated servers just as they did in the past. The third party titles might be an exception though.
They talked about the declining games sales figures over the last few years in the interview. Glad Jack was able to set it straight that this console cycle was damned long. Sales figures always decline towards the end of a console generation. This hype for this new gen is very high and I expect this and next holiday season will definitely be huge or as Mr. Tretton says it, 'y-uge.'
I want to get an actual Vita. I have been putting it off due to the PS4 launching but next year I plan on getting one (especially if the redesigned units make their way here) but if this drops here in the States, I might grab one of these first. I already have several Vita games on my PS+ account so I'll have those to play BUT the PS4/PS3 streaming HAS to work for me to get one.
@lvnlavitaloca Agreed. When I tire of the flaming, trolling etc. etc. I like that when I come to this site people are making good points and are for the most part very polite and friendly. Plus the articles are very well written and the writer(s) participate in the discussion as well.
"Sony has an advantage in North America, and Microsoft has an advantage in Europe..." How do you qualify this statement? Are you referring simply to the launch dates? If so I don't consider either of these consoles coming first any advantage at all. Preorders will be filling an overwhelming majority of the sales throughout November thereby nullifying any early release advantage. MS knows this which is why they are in no rush to release ahead of the PS4. Sony looks like it has the advantage in every territory when we look at the preorder numbers. We'll see as the next gen wears on but for now Sony has the early advantage. The rest of the article is pretty much spot on.
@8vpiper Even if the OR competed with Sony's tech on their console the licensing fees alone would make up for any loss of sales. You don't see Sony banning third party controllers and peripherals just because Sony makes their own. They both generate income for the PS brand. It is a win, win.
Also, the title good sir. This screams 'Sony once again developing off someone else's research' which we all know isn't true, as they have already shown the preluding tech for their soon to be announced VR headset. I suspect you are using the 'Oculus Rift-Esque' as a frame of reference but I don't think it is necessary. I'd say we all have a pretty good grasp on what VR is...
Tantrum aside, this is good news for several reasons. No.1, it will ensure the OR team really push themselves to make the OR the best it can be once they know there is some actual competition. And no. 2, it could lead to more aggressive pricing on both sides. Sony can't afford to put out a monstrously expensive piece of tech if it wants to compete with the darling of the tech community. I like the news and look forward to hearing more about the both of them.
I let mine lapse last month... Just until PS4 comes out as I am sadly going to be selling my PS3 to help my wife feel better about me spending damn near $600 for a new system and games... But it is a phenomenal deal worth every bit of the $50. As for PS+ being required to play online... No one should EVER complain about that with the benefits that come with it AND the fact that it is not required for anything else you do on your PS4. Plus it will help Sony cultivate the PSN and help it get better.
@rjejr FOr me the best reason to get one is the added features to the actual console such as face recognition, video chat and profile/controller tracking. With very few exceptions I never felt the camera peripherals added much in the way of games. I like Sorcerer for the Move but they never made a sequel and after playing the few other games like Socom, KZ3 and House of the Dead 3 (that was fun with move and the PS gun periph) there was little extra functionality. Now there will be and I think that may drive better adoption. Especially when (correct me if I am wrong) current move controllers are supposed to continue working with it.
I have only preordered 1 first party title (mostly due to my wife not letting me spend what I want to) and that is Knack. I got the Watch Dogs bundle and added AC4 for me and Knack for me and the kids....
But I think the launch line up of 1st party titles is Good. KZ:SF looks great but I prefer FPS games on my PC so I might pick that up later on if the reviews are good.
Resogun (I'm psyched for this game) and Drive Club are free for PS+ members so I'll be playing them and with all the F2P games coming who will even have time to play all these games anyways? Next gen IMHO is starting off very well.
@belmont It certainly SEEMS that way however, Skype has it's own monetary system (paid calls etc.) and MS as a whole doesn't care so much about how it's accessed but whether people are using it and therefore putting money into it. Skype is owned by MS true but it is a separate division with it's own course to chart to keep itself profitable for MS. That means being on as many devices as possible with as many paying users as possible. The XBOX's pay walls help keep revenue streams high for MS by offsetting costs associated with running their infrastructure etc. As long as the numbers work out in favor of profits MS doesn't care that it's free to access on a PS platform and $60USD annually on XBOX. If profits suffer, THEN we might see some changes.

Re: This PlayStation Plus Sizzle Reel Will Make You Feel Good
I let mine lapse last month...
Re: Sony Confirms That You Will Be Able to Talk to Your PS4
@rjejr FOr me the best reason to get one is the added features to the actual console such as face recognition, video chat and profile/controller tracking. With very few exceptions I never felt the camera peripherals added much in the way of games. I like Sorcerer for the Move but they never made a sequel and after playing the few other games like Socom, KZ3 and House of the Dead 3 (that was fun with move and the PS gun periph) there was little extra functionality. Now there will be and I think that may drive better adoption. Especially when (correct me if I am wrong) current move controllers are supposed to continue working with it.
Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on the PS4's Launch Lineup?
Re: Skype Eager to Arrange a Video Conference with PS4
