@ShogunRok nice update it would great to know how all the games ranked. Also it would be nice to find out how Push Square readers would vote if they had two choices: Multiplayer (or) Single Player
Souls like... followed by souls like... followed by souls like...
Please stop!!! this genre of game is way to saturated now and I personally are NOT a fan of souls like games.
Ubisoft is one of my favourite developers on PS5. They are regularly making single player games I like. Yes their day one pricing levels are stupid and the microtransactions are crazy but you can ignore both of these and just buy the standard lowest price version of their game.
If you use PS+ Extra regularly for 12 months and you are NOT buying games you will get your moneys worth.
After 12 months you should probably unsub for at least 6 months to give the service a chance to refresh the games catalogue.
Most games stay on PS+ Extra for about 12 months unless they are from EA, Rockstar or Day One releases.
Currently I am half way through Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun (included on PS+ Extra). The game is stealth-oriented with real-time tactics where you need to plot a path to reach an objective.
You will have to sneak past or kill the enemies without being seen.
Its surprisingly addictive.
A gacha game is a video game that implements the gacha (toy vending machine) mechanic. Similar to loot boxes, gacha games entice players to spend in-game currency to receive a random in-game item. Some in-game currency generally can be gained through game play, and some by purchasing it from the game publisher using real-world funds.
Going to play Watchdogs and Crime Boss.
Will also try Tunic from the Essentials list.
Extra and Essential are combined in what you pay for each month. You only need to play 1 or 2 games to cover your monthly fee.
Live Service Games 👎🚫 Souls Like Games 👎🚫 These two types of games are taking over and they are the games I hate the most. I remember playing Clash of Clans when it first released and not really playing anything else. When I finally quit I realised it was an addiction. The game was just a repetitive loop which had the right ingredients to keep a person addicted and returning each day. Single player games are so much better Because they have an endpoint that results in you completing the game. This allows you to move on and enjoy a brand new game.
If steamdeck made a gaming pc (no bigger than a PS5) with its own operating system, then I would join the PC gaming world. Until then playing PS5 from the sofa is a winning formula that no PC gaming offers.
@get2sammyb Those statistics are based on spending in one single month which is a poor way to measure changes. Why are they not showing us changes for a whole year? I bought a 1 year subscription in December which means I spent nothing in April.
nothing really goes on sale on the PS Store! each game has two prices that alternate every 2 or 4 weeks. Price 1 is the high unrealistic price and Price 2 is the regular price which they call the discount price.
Here is an example: Red Dead Redemption 2 current price £54.99 and its last discount price was £18.14.
Every once in a blue moon you see something which is actually cheaper than normal but this is quite rare.
A new TR game would go straight to the top of my wish list.
Tomb Raider and Uncharted tick all the boxes for me.
✅Third Person
✅Gun Fights
✅Exploration
✅Puzzle Solving
✅Story
✅Traversal Climbing
✅Single Player
✅Great Graphics
One thing worth mentioning now is that Microsoft faced a lengthy legal battle to acquire Activision Blizzard. If Microsoft had announced upfront that Activision Blizzard games would be available on all consoles, they could have saved a significant amount of money.
Maybe this indicates that Microsoft don't really know what they're doing.
the Indiana Jones games is the only one I can think of that definitely interests me and its not even released.
I played all the games that were worth playing that you couldn't get on a PS via Game Pass and then sold my Xbox.
I hope one of those live service games sticks so that sony wont need to keep making more live service games. Sony's single player fans will get fed up if they don't produce much for the PS5 generation.
It looks like the price rise on GTA+ subscription service means that the subscribers will now be paying for the money lost in game development cancellations and the employee layoff severance packages.
If you want to play a Fallout game then you should play Fallout 3 or Fallout 4. Both games offer a great single player experience.
Fallout 76 is more of multiplayer game and did not rekindle the magic from the previous titles.
Another game by Bethesda that does not get mentioned very often and is well worth playing even in 2024, is Wolfenstein.
The original FF7 on PS1 is one of my all time favourite games and is probably the game that I spent the most hours playing. FF7 Remake was one of the first games I purchased for PS5 hoping for a massive gulp of nostalgia, unfortunately for me that was not the case and FF7 Intergrade was the same result. My interest levels in FF7 Rebirth are not particularly high and I will probably play it at some point just because the original FF7 was a masterpiece. There is one reason I am not a fan of the remake series. The battle fight system In the original was turn-based with "pauses" on each character making the battle much more tactical & fun. Its hard to explain this unless you have played both games. Fighting takes up more than a third of the game and the new fight system is boring and does not require hardly any skill or tactics apart from on a few bosses. This for me is why FF7 Rebirth sales are not performing well.
I'm continuing exploring in the 2nd game of the most recent series Rise of the Tomb Raider: 20 Year Celebration.
Its now been 6 years since a new TR game was released. It says on Crystal Dynamics website that a new game is under development, but unfortunately there is very little detail about the game.
@__Seraph @Bez87 @breakneck @NinjaNicky @GeeEssEff @Silenos I bought my PS+ Extra subscription at Xmas when it was 30% Off. That works out at £5.83 a month. If I like two games a month & want to play those, I think that's fantastic value for money. 13 Titles where added to Extra and usual 3 where added to Essential. My picks for the month are (Deliver Us Mars & Immortals of Aveum). I am happy with PS+.
Ubisoft want $40 extra! to play two add-ons which are not available until after launch.
Maybe they should change it from Gold Edition to Pick-Pocket Edition
It also makes a difference on what display/screen your PS5 is connected to and how good your display actually is plus what onboard features that display uses. for example: Resolution / AMD Freesync support / VRR / Anti aliasing / ALLM / HDR
@ShogunRok Please can you add simple formatting to the comments sections for articles (bold, italic, underlined). I think a lot of users would really appreciate this.
If a player buys Helldivers 2 for £40 (with zero in-game purchases) and spends 150 hours playing it.
The same person also buys Spiderman 2 for £70 and spends 35 hours playing that game.
It doesn't always mean "total game time" is making you more money.
I would like to see a report on profit not total game hours.
I would prefer to buy and own the own the games.
Rockstar games go on offer for the exact same price's every couple of weeks on the PS Store.
Red Dead Redemption £39.99 drops to £31.99
Red Dead Redemption 2 £54.99 drops to £18.14
L. A. Noire £34.99 drops to £17.49

Sea of Stars (available on PS+ Extra)
