Re: Mini Review: Wraith: The Oblivion - Afterlife (PSVR) - A Frightfully Good Time if You’ve Got the Nerve

gbanas92

@thefourfoldroot Horror films I love, just gotta dig through all the crap to find the good stuff. Books are a lot harder. I think the only book that's ever scared me is House of Leaves? books don't much scare me haha.

Play any non-VR horror games? Might be easier to get through those if you had an interest in building towards VR horror. Could start with Alien Isolation or Outlast or something! Although they evoke the same feelings as VR horror, just a little less immersive haha

Re: Mini Review: Carrion (PS4) - A Grotesque Metroidvania with an Incredible Atmosphere

gbanas92

@Telekill Nah not super new, I know I've been hearing the term for a lonnnnng time now! I won't add an explanation as @GoodGame covered it flawlessly already!

But if you don't like Metroid, there are still Metroidvania games you can find you'd probably like. Most of the games now use that Metroid or Castlevania structure as a framework to come up with their own unique ideas. So you just have to find the ones with the ideas you like! Stay away from something like Axiom Verge though haha

Re: Synth Riders Welcomes Back Muse with a DLC Pack Available Now

gbanas92

@nessisonett Honestly kinda same haha. They were my FAVORITE band in high school and I was convinced of it. Now I still enjoy them a ton, but I can't tell what's nostalgia and what's me still loving it haha

@Burntbreadman Yeah that first one, they all came from their last album. Pleasantly surprised to see tracks from across all different albums this time!

Re: Synth Riders Welcomes Back Muse with a DLC Pack Available Now

@fR_eeBritney Only the first 6 tracks?! I LOVE Megalomania, probably one of my fav songs of theirs!

Oh, what! Was Mark Hammill in the movie too? Or just the audiobook?

What VR games have you booted it up for? Or have you? I know rhythm games are far and away the ones I find myself putting on the headset for over and over, whereas everything else I gotta accumulate like 5 of them before I can be bothered haha. But if I wanna play Beat Saber (or Synth Riders actually) I'll just play whenever I'm in the mood!

Re: Alan Wake Remastered Listed for PS5, PS4 Release on 5th October

gbanas92

@hookedWORM17 A pretty reasonable leap to make but honestly...not really? I've read a few of his books, and love a couple of adaptations of his work, but I wouldn't say I really love any of his books haha. I appreciate them though? That's probably part of it. The Twin Peaks vibes from those games are more the elements that hook me haha.

Re: Mini Review: Quake (PS4) - New Coat of Paint for Legendary FPS

gbanas92

@Gmork___ This new port of the game includes the N64 version of the game! It mentions something similar actually haha. The description reads like "for those who might have fond memories of a different version of Quake, you can play the N64 version in full." It's in the add-ons menu I believe, it wasn't on the main campaign page, but it was in there!

Re: Mini Review: Quake (PS4) - New Coat of Paint for Legendary FPS

gbanas92

@themcnoisy I really like Doom 64 too honestly, I played a lot more Doom than Quake when I was younger, but Quake's campaign definitely has a more coherent sense of logic to them when it comes to layout and secrets. Makes for a less frustrating experience if a newcomer tries out the game, so yeah, hopefully, you should have a better time with this!

Re: Mini Review: Synth Riders (PSVR) – A VR Rhythm Game with a Different Sound

gbanas92

@Burntbreadman Yeah that was at least partially my first impression as well, some aspects of the presentation of the game look slightly...cheaper than something like Beat Saber, which makes sense given how presumably massive the gap in budgets would be.

But the gameplay itself is marvelous! I think the rail system realllly helps make the gameplay feel that extra bit special, it's by far the most elegant solution to held notes I've seen in VR, and it's fantastic!

I myself only have PSVR, has the community on PC done anything in the vein of the "Experience" levels in the custom realm? Is it feasible in the title?

Re: Mini Review: Synth Riders (PSVR) – A VR Rhythm Game with a Different Sound

gbanas92

@kingbreww That doesn't really make much sense. That'd be like comparing Undertale to The Last of Us and docking points on Undertale because the "graphics aren't as impressive". It's not about that. There's more to it. And a game being graded on a scale is being graded according to how well it's succeeding on the experience it is trying to provide to the user. It is not being compared to every other game that has received an 8. An 8 can mean something entirely different from game to game.

Re: Mini Review: Synth Riders (PSVR) – A VR Rhythm Game with a Different Sound

gbanas92

@Steel76 Yeah They did something similar to Beat Saber on PSVR. A rotation mode in 90-degree cones in either direction. It's not quite as well implemented as with Beat Saber, but it's an option at least!

Oh you can turn obstacles off still, but that was more just in relation to the default experience as presented!

Agreed on the soundtrack. Muchhhhhh better! Way more music I actually like and listen to haha

@naruball I almost exclusively use VR for rhythm games these days, and this is one of the ones I think I'll be leaving installed! This, Beat Saber, Audica, and Pistol Whip!

Re: Mini Review: Metro Exodus (PS5) – A Greatly Improved Version of a Pretty Awesome Game

gbanas92

@Abdessgal Lemme know what you think when you start! It's so good!

@Ward_ting Oof that sounds extremely annoying! I was actually shocked to not run into any bugs this time. Encountered a lotttttt when I was playing it on PS4!

@JustPlainLoco If it's a series you already like, definitely worth it! I did that before the PS4 version of Exodus came out actually!

@Alpine021 I bought Ghost of Tsushima day 1, and haven't even booted it up once!

@Nepp67 I think it's just a purely artistic choice, because mechanically I agree it doesn't really help much, but that tactile feeling and knowledge that you the player are the one catalyzing it...warm feelings all over!

@carlos82 It's one of the small reviews, and there were just other areas I was more interested in talking about. Buttttt, I do agree with you! Very impressive!

Re: Mini Review: Metro Exodus (PS5) – A Greatly Improved Version of a Pretty Awesome Game

gbanas92

@MattyHammo ish. The story isn't one of the strengths in the first two, but it informs most of the dialogue in this one. It's less important for the actual story. The characters in this were present in past entries, but weren't super well developed until this one actually haha. I'd say Exodus is pretty welcoming to newcomers so long as you have an understanding of the world you're being dropped into!

I'd still play the other 2 though given the choice. The "Redux" remasters on PS4 are great! Last Light is a decent game, but I LOVE 2033! One of my all-time favs!
