Alan Wake is finally heading to PlayStation consoles next month in a remastered package if multiple online listings from Taiwanese retailers are to be believed. Alan Wake Remastered will launch for both PS5 and PS4 on 5th October 2021, and supremely reliable insider ZhugeEX has confirmed the release "will be announced next week".
With the PlayStation Showcase 2021 scheduled to take place on Thursday, it's possible this could be one of the show's announcements. However, we'd argue this remaster seems a little lowkey for the much anticipated digital event unless it's coupled with a sequel reveal. Alan Wake 2 is reportedly in development, so that's a possibility. At least with the reveal planned to happen at some point in the next seven days, we don't have long to wait and see what's what.
Have you played Alan Wake before? Or would this be your first time? Let us know in the comments below.

I am actually super happy to see its happening. Alan Wake is great, and still holds up today. Gonna assume its gonna have the expansion included.
Hopefully its at a decent price and not a $60 Remaster Collection..

Isn't Oct. 5th the day that PS Plus games will be added?
Oh god, yes. This is a great game. Loved it back on the 360. Highly recommend to new players.
Happy to see it. Back then, it was my personal reason to buy a 360.
@ED_209 It is. This launching on PS Plus sounds too good to be true though.
I have this on Xbox too.
Sheesh, wonder when this will get announced /s
We were only talking about this the other day. Really hope this is true.
Been waiting for this for what feels like years. Bring it on. One of my very favorite games of all time, Probably second to only Kentucky Route Zero. I'm so so ready
Hope it's a proper redo and not just a lick of paint ... the fact it didn't sell well makes me think the latter.
I never learned much about this game as it wasn't on Playstation. Is it a horror game?
@Telekill Kind of. Its more of a supernatural thriller, but it definitely gave me a few frights.
More X-Files/Twin Peaks than Silent Hill though.

@GZoo I don't expect much beyond up-ressed textures and 60 fps. Still, happy this is coming as I never got the chance to play it when it originally came out.
I'll give it a try.
Damn finally? Great game, been a long time since I’ve played. Might give it a go on PS5. Let’s see what the remastered enhancements improve.
@render we were indeed… we ask and Remedy delivers it seems 😎
I played it on X360, don't remember much other than it feeling mediocre. Might give it another go. Would have preferred Max Payne. Loved the first and second, never played the third though, always meant to.
Great news if true. Hopefully we’ll see Sunset Overdrive on PlayStation at some point too.
this is great news for a new generation of players that haven't experienced this gem. The gameplay isn't very strong but the writing carries it with ease
Always wanted to play this game.i believe its one of the next week announcement.hope we get sunset overdrive remake soon.word up son
How was the original? What would it most compare / resemble, gameplay and storywise?
Whaaaat? Unexpected! But I'm glad it's happening!
YES YES YES!!! I have always wanted to play this game in full since getting a wee play of it on Xbox. Day one for me!
I played it a few months ago on the 360 and I thought it still held up. Gameplay was a bit clunky but I enjoyed it. Too soon for me to go back but never played the dlc, maybe this will come bundled with it.
I still haven't played my 360 copy I picked up a while back, but was thinking about playing it as I really enjoyed Control, should I wait it out or just play it now?
One of my favorite games on Xbox 360 and I will be so happy if this is real.
Wish I didn't watch a spoilery synopsis of this game just so I could make a modicum of sense of the mediocre Control AWE
I beat it before it left game pass and thought it was phenomenal in it's story and writing, plus for a 2010 game it still holds up graphically. It's combat was pretty barebones and on higher difficulties with very limited ammo & batteries it was best to just run to the end. I wasn't gonna spend $14 on the DLCs for the true ending so this is pretty neat. Now if it also comes with American Nightmare I might get it.
I recently played Alan Wake on PC (I believe it was a give away on the Epic Store at one point a while back) and while it had a great story and wonderful atmosphere, it started to feel like a chore in the latter levels as I just wanted to get to the next cutscene.
Anyways, I’ll be interested to see how this turns out. I think it’s a good game, but I do feel like “burnout” is real towards the end.
I picked this up on Xbox One dirt cheap couple of years ago. I played about an hour recently and then rumors came out about a remaster, so I stopped playing. Will get it on PS5 to play the new better version. Glad I waited.
Hope we arnt going to get a whole week of spoilers for the event (not from Push Square, but industry 'insiders').
Its a good to very good game but I don't think the gameplay aged to well. I played it on PC about 18 months ago when it returned after being pulled due to licences expiring on some of the music. I think at this point it could do with a bit more than a remaster, perhaps if they use the control Northlight engine and update the game play. Alan wake was also built on a inhouse engine and that probable spawned into Northlight so it is possible if not totally likely.
Another game (just like Dead Space) that is perfect for a full RayTracing upgrade
@colonelkilgore They must be avid users of this site 😆
@Telekill Yeah, it's a psychological horror game. It's basically Stephen King meets Twin Peaks with Remedy's great storytelling.
Great game and the reason I bought a xbox 360.
If this is true I will buy it again for ps5.
Played it not too long ago on Xbox. It’s pretty good, but I prefer Quantum Break, personally. I’m a sucker for a time travel story, though the final boss sucked.
Alan is Morris, yet isn’t it ironic that he’s not?
@Telekill It's the same developers Remedy who created the masterpiece game control. In fact it's Alan wake connected in the dlc for control.
@nessisonett Alan Dlocked Country.
I don't know how this game works.
just no! i'm not going to pay 60+ for a ps2 game from 2001, no chance!
Great game. Proper spooky atmosphere at times.
Yes please, its a fantastic game and i would love to see it in new paint.
@huyi Its a 360 game from 2010 and its a fantastic game what's vital for the Control universe.
Nice! Literally one of the only Xbox 360 era games I wanted to play but never got a chance to.
Better late than never!
I played it on xbox 360 but didn't finish it, if the price is right I think I'll finish the game on ps5 😃
Now this is an announcement that gets me excited. Now give me a Sunset Overdrive announcement and will be set.
its a coolish game you have to shine a torch at the enemies before you can shoot them gets a bit repetitive though the vibe of it is the coolist thing
6.5 out of 10
They will also have to do quite alot of work to it because it feels janky like an early xbox 360 game
@gbanas92 I am guessing you are a Stephen King fan. Loved both of those titles which made be feel like I was in a S.K. novel.
@ED_209
Yep. I think we're both thinking the same thing. Here's hoping 👍👍
Think is actually really good news. I really enjoyed Alan wake and finish it in the space of a weekend. Would definitely like to replay it, especially with remastered graphics. The lighting in that game was already fantastic
Was never a great game....was good, but not great. I still think Remedy would be a good capture for Sony.....they fit Sonys ideals.
Alan Wake may be one of my top 10 favorite games of all time. Is it objectively one of the best games of all time? No. Is it subjectively one of the most unique and well crafted storytelling experiences that has had the blessing to grace gaming? Absolutely. The game has its flaws, but I just enjoyed playing it. Would love to have a third play through with improved visuals. Love this news, even if I don’t know how I can financially justify purchasing another game this October. Lol.
One of my favourite games of all time, dark and magical, with a moving yet surreal narrative and a haunting OST. Should have been a contender for game of the year at the time. American Nightmare was a great follow-up too.
oh hells yeah , first played this on xbox360 got it on steam to been playing off and on for years.
my fave character is barry 🤣😂
still wanting the sequel thank you.
I never played but i really would like to try it out.
Great game, technically ahead of its time, the visual style still looks great today, and with the remaster, it'll be even better!
I highly recommend everyone to check this game
@nessisonett Fun fact for you: this game was delayed so much, people called it "Alan Wait"
I wonder if Alan Wake Remastered could be announced at the PS5 Showcase alongside the announcement of Alan Wake 2, I would absolutely lose it if this were to happen.
@Telekill If you've played Control then you'll know what to expect. It's set in the same world.
@hookedWORM17 A pretty reasonable leap to make but honestly...not really? I've read a few of his books, and love a couple of adaptations of his work, but I wouldn't say I really love any of his books haha. I appreciate them though? That's probably part of it. The Twin Peaks vibes from those games are more the elements that hook me haha.
Great news! Looking forward to replaying again, especially since I never finished all the DLC.
@UnusedBabyWipes @R1spam @rawzeku I would love for all of the DLC to be included, hopefully that's the case (assuming this is real).
@The-Grezzly-Bear @Voltan @ED_209 That would certainly save me some money, though I'd happily buy the collection at launch if not the case.
alan wake 4k , ps5 controls , hdr ray tracing i would 100% play it all over again. imagine alan wake 2 is a ps5 exclusive , they are making a ps5 game.
I cannot contain my excitement for this game. If it's true that this game will come out next month, it will be a day 1 buy.
Not trying to get too excited but goddamn!!! I am ready to play this 😁
@Richnj I've never played Alan Wake but I've heard good things, I'm actually looking forward to this ✌️
Well that's annoying just bought it for the Xbox as I had never played it and heard it was good. I am really enjoying it so far the visuals are a bit dated but overall still holds up well. Might double dip on the ps5 if it has some good dualsense features, and for a visual update.
I'm hyped for this. I loved Alan wake on the 360, The story was good and the overall atmosphere of the game was great. I really liked how they utilised the flashlight in this game. Can't wait.
@gbanas92 Now you're talking! David Lynch out creeps S.K. 10 to 1!
@hookedWORM17 Twin Peaks is by far my fav show, and Alan Wake came out right around when it was cementing itself as my favorite show, so it was perfect timing!!!
Along with Fable 2 and the Mass Effect trilogy this was a defining experience for me on Xbox 360. Very excited to see it coming back!
