Re: Memory Crisis Threatening to Delay PS6 Could Last 'Another 10 Years'

bleeflooflah

It’s going to be very easy to conflate the multiple headlines about this. This article is saying that the RAM problem will last ten years. There is no way on EARTH Sony will wait that long to release. At some point (no later than 2030 I’m sure) so at some point Sony is going to choose to either eat th cost, or just release a more expensive PlayStation. And it’s worth saying: 30-50% of the RAM supply is a lot. But it’s only eating half. While this shortage is happening, people are ALSO buying fewer electronics. When this all plays out, it might not be the doomsday that many are predicting.

Re: Opinion: The Euphoric Reaction to PS6's Rumoured Delay Really Confuses Me

Sammy, allow me to offer a respectful critique...Your argument of "just don't buy one at launch" is largely missing the point behind the sentiment. It's not simply a matter of affordability, timing, or having seen the generation come to a satisfying conclusion in its library's breadth. It's also a matter of practical necessity.

Many games load instantly now. Many publishers clearly aren't even using all the power that they have available to them. Many studios are struggling with ballooning budgets and shrinking returns on their investments. MANY games are having trouble finding their audiences. The VAST majority of players are spending their time with OLD games.

The fans who read this site know the industry is entering a really uncertain time. It's been that way since Covid, and it's only getting stranger and more uncertain. I would wager a bet that most of the readerbase here is old enough to have seen a few console generations. They know intuitively that a new console won't make that uncertainty better; it will probably make it worse.

Looking at the industry broadly, as well as what gamers are engaging with, there doesn't seem to be a practical NEED for a new generation. Most of the things that PlayStation players would want from a console are being met with the PS5. Its almost a perfect machine in terms of meeting the needs of its customers. I'm a relatively technical person, but I can't think of one major thing that I would ask for in a new PlayStation that I would actually use.

Re: GTA 6 Delayed to 2026, Out on 26th May 2026

This is kind of a bummer honestly, and makes me suspicious about the state of development. They confirmed to investors it would be coming this fall and there would be no delay. It even impacted their stock price when they made that announcement. Now they're delaying it by 6+ months. That's a big chunk of time. And lets be real, they've already been working on this game 6+ years.

I've played the junk out of Balatro on Apple Arcade. its amazing on the ipad and on desktop. I was curious how it would play with controller. Time to jump in! I remember playing Boltgun for a few minutes when I was subscribed to Premium (I think?) and loved it. Now its mine forever. yeeeeah boi!

@Godot25 Forbidden West is in the top tier of sales though, and they DEFINITELY put that on Extra earlier than I think they wanted to. I remember hearing that internal estimates were that they missed out on several hundred millions of dollars in sales with the decision to put it on Extra so quickly. It makes SOME sense that they back-pedaled with that one. With infamous and Resistance...those franchises are dead. There's no reason NOT to keep them on Plus. You're not losing any sales.

@PloverNutter I THOUGHT I remembered the titles not being there. So they added them fairly recently? They may have done it as a market test to see if people would play them at all! 6 months would have given them enough data to make an educated decision. Yes, it "costs" them to have the titles on the service, but those are also beloved PS3 games. The cost is worth it, if only to buttress the library and justify the Premium tier. I think if they're taking it down its a strong signal that we have remasters on the way.

Re: Massive PS Plus Clearout Announced for May, 22 Games Leaving

the only incentive Sony would have for removing these first party games is that remasters are coming soon. Resistance makes total sense (and is VERY welcome) but infamous seems odd. You would think SP is neck deep in hitting their deadline for Yotei, who at that studio has time to touch up Second Son? That studio is notorious for not letting other people work on their babies, so an external studio is out of the question

Re: April Could Be a Colossal Month from Xbox on PS5

On the one hand, I hate that Microsoft is stacking their releases like this. On the other...they have to get these games out before the PACKED fall/winter season. These games aren't going to stand a chance against the usual annual sports releases, COD, and the much-anticipated GTA6. They either release them now in the Spring/summer or wait until next year. I also have a big suspicion that they want these games to be ready for the Switch 2 launch. Let's also not forget about Ghost of Yotei, which is absolutely going to dominate the conversation on the month it releases. That one smells like a summer release to me
