Re: Poll: Will You Pay the PSVR2 Launch Price?

WiteWulf

I love my PSVR, and am excited by the new hardware (particularly the simplified connectivity), but that's too expensive for me at the moment.

Not saying it's over-priced, it looks like good VFM on paper give the spec, I just can't afford/justify it

Re: BBC iPlayer Is Now Available on PS5

WiteWulf

Does the PS5 iPlayer client support UHD playback? That could actually make it useful for ppl with 4k sets that the BBC doesn't support.

FWIW I'm another happy LG webOS user, so no need for it myself

Re: PS5 Games Won't Support PSVR, Says Sony

WiteWulf

I was really disappointed when I first saw the headline, but clicking through to the original story on UploadVR I think we're getting something of a case of Chinese Whispers here. Nowhere does it say that PS5 doesn't or won't support PSVR, or that there will never be any PSVR games for PS5 (something that @get2sammyb's headline strongly alludes to).

The quote from Sony is in the present-tense: "We have not announced PS5 titles for PS VR."

My guess is that PSVR support isn't in the current version of the PS5 SDK. Whether it'll eventually come or not is another matter, but I'm hopeful, at least...I'm very happy with the hardware as it currently stands, and it would be amazing to see what the new console do driving that display.

Re: PS5 Uses Bluetooth 5.1, Wi-Fi 6 for Improved Performance

WiteWulf

The problem with bluetooth audio (particularly high bitrate surround stuff) is that it uses up a lot of the bandwidth available to the bluetooth radio in the console. Most people would agree that low latency for the controllers is more important than audio quality, and that's why, if you plug headphones into a DS4, you get noticeably lower audio quality than with a Playstation headset, or output to speakers.

The Playstation wireless headsets get around this by using a dongle which essentially gives the Playstation an additional bluetooth radio dedicated to audio.

Unless the PS5 comes with multiple bluetooth radios I can't see generic bluetooth headsets being supported.

NB. you're also going to need bluetooth headphones that support a low-latency audio codec for the audio to keep in sync with what you're seeing on screen.

Re: PS4's Camera Will Require a Free Adaptor for PS5

WiteWulf

It's good to hear that the Move, Aim and Camera will all be supported, but I've yet to see Sony explicitly state that the current PSVR headset and box will be compatible with PS5. In fact it was notably absent from the article Sammy linked to, which I find surprising and a little worrying...

Re: PS Vita Remains a Viable Platform in 2020

WiteWulf

Still regularly use my Vita. There are some stunning AAA games on the platform and first class indie titles. The form factor and insane battery life is what really does it for me, though. It's so easy to slip into a pocket or bag and very unlikely to have a flat battery, even if I don't touch it for a few days.

Re: PS Plus July 2019 PS4 Games Changed After Fan Backlash

WiteWulf

I was admittedly underwhelmed by PES 2019, but I'd just bought Detroit in the sale last month assuming it would be a long time until it was on Plus. So we now have a situation where neither of the games promoting the platform's online gaming service are online titles? Anyone have a clue what Sony are trying to do, besides pushing users away and making Now look more attractive?

Re: Sign Up to Test 16 Player Party Chats in Latest Firmware Update on PS4 Now

WiteWulf

I tweeted about the chat transcription thing when it was first announced, but bears repeating: "Oh…. DO NOT LIKE! Are the chat transcripts stored? Are they exported? Are they anonymised? Are they sold or used for marketing? Are participants notified and given the chance to opt out?" This needs a lot more transparency from Sony, imho. Yes, my tinfoil hat is firmly installed 🤨

Re: Guide: Why Doesn't Sony Allow Cross-Play on PS4?

WiteWulf

I'll happily let them keep the block on cross-play, I can understand the business reasons for that, even if it is a PITA for many gamers. But blocking users from using the same account on different platforms is not helping Sony in the slightest and is a blatant abuse of power. They need to back down on this.

One slight gripe against Epic: they should have made it VERY clear when linking your account to a PSN ID what effect this would have. I think a lot of people would not have done so had they known.
