Put 85hours into this bad boy and getting the platinum. Took my time and didn't rush.
I thought everything about it was brilliant and massively improved over the first game.
You will have heard this one before but the only thing I preferred about Tsushima was the story. Both were great but becoming the Ghost, leaving the samurai way behind, and then ultimately in my mind (sparing his uncle) and breaking away from the code for good and leaving to go on the run was just really well thought out.
@OldGamer999 Exactly we dont know if Sony will go down that route eventually. At least for now their acquisition in recent years of Crunchyroll and new alliance with Kadokawa should bring in plenty of funds to make up for the loss in their TV sales.
@kailun And Sony for a large portion are a 'hardware' company who benefit from exclusives helping to sell their hardware. Same with Nintendo. Exclusives aren't entirely dead for all parties by any means, it just benefits Microsoft to share their exclusives as Xbox have the smallest player base of the three systems above.
@RBMango I mean i don't know much about game development but it's an open world game from scratch for starters. It's not a sequel for them its their first time dealing with the IP, so combat, to character models, to open world designs etc were conceived from nothing.
On top of that they said the town in which they showcased had 1000 npc's and you culd interact with them all individually and they would respond in varying ways considering your actions to each of them. I'm sure thats time consuming. Most games have numerous npc's but only a handful you can interact with.
@LogicStrikesAgain Indeed it was but it has 6-8 months of ironing out performance issues before its released. And then on top of that we know a lot of these games still need a further patch or two after release unfortunately. But I expect it to be significantly smoother on release than what was shown here.
@Perturbator I know you're being sarcastic but i have a positive outlook and think they'll do much better at least in the short term than what Ubisoft are doing now
I know this is true for a large portion of games these days but I have a feeling this will be one of those where you should wait a year or maybe slightly longer for performance to be patched
I did the same with Elden Ring and it was well worth it. With a game of this magnitude and scope I can't see how this won't be any different, especially given the earliest trailers where the frame drops and stutters were absolutely diabolical.
I booted it up again this November just gone with the aim of getting the platinum.
I had finished the story and side quests years back but the trophy for one of the post story missions was bugged and didn't pop and theres only a random mission generator post game, you cant pick the missions you want to replay.
Even without that annoyance I tried to get into the gameplay loop again with the different javelins and it was just a bit too repetitive for me. Most mission structures revolved around the same thing and the environments were a bit bland and not varied enough in my opinion.
Combat was serviceable and being able to fly across the map was fun enough.
It needed further support through the years to fully change up its systems in my opinion. The concept was there but the implementation left a lot to be desired.
@themaladroit I only played it about 2 months ago on the Pro from start to platinum and I had no issues in either bug or crash department so maybe worth trying it out now
@get2sammyb yes at that price its worth a go. It's not dire, it has its moments. I enjoyed some of the boss fights.
It's one of those games where you can tell it was originally designed to be a live service and then switched to single player during development type of game.
@Gamer83 Exactly this! Look i enjoy trophy hunting and I don't let it get in the way of me enjoying every game possible. If I'm not good enough to get all trophies on a game then so be it. However, like you said I would be fine with no trophies and just having unlockables in game.
The best days were where you would find collectibles in the game and they were actually relevant, now most of them have no meaning and are just tied to trophies because the developers want you to explore all of the empty spaces they've created in games.
@Balaam_ I genuinely think you should have yourself checked for obsessive compulsive disorder. Imagine robbing yourself of amazing gaming experiences because you're worried a digital list of achievements looks a bit disjointed.
I love trophy hunting but I'm not upset when a game beats me and it says at less than 100%. You don't seem to like multiplayer nor any sort of skill/difficulty related ones either.
You get your little participation/ I woz 'ere trophies when you pass story milestones in games. Multiplayer and difficulty related trophies shows you were actually up to the challenge and could complete everything that was on offer in the game. Its why they're called achievements on Xbox, because you know you've actually achieved something that others were unable to.
@LogicStrikesAgain I would also like to see the next MGS collection which supposedly includes MGS4. Never got to play it and in my eyes theres no point in forking out for an old console just to play it when the next collection is in the works.
@Mostik We already had the cinematic trailer in August for Black Myth Zhong Kui to let us know its in development so I highly doubt we will see anything more on that until next year
@HonestHick Bloodborne, Demon's Souls Remake, Gran Turismo 7, the entire Infamous series, Astro's Playroom, Astrobot (this has potential to be ported but not confirmed yet), Shadow of the Colossus Remake, The Last Guardian, Knack series, Ratchet and Clank (2016), The Order 1886 to name a few all remain officially exclusive not taking into account emulation etc
@McSavage I love digital. The only thing that bothers me is the digital license which is also prevalent on discs to prove you own the game. If online services go down and you don't have the game on the disc installed, then you will still run into the problem of not being able to play it. Sony need to remove this for all games in my opinion.
@Rhaoulos I thought I was the only one! Her dialogue was making her insufferable. Sure I can understand her not wanting her friends to get hurt and what not but she was literally pushing them away for the entire game and it got tiresome real quick!
@Hapless From memory I remember having a load of fun with the combat. I went full biotic with all of those purple vortexes and purple shockwaves that would go through walls to clatter the enemy.
Having said that though I remember the massive amounts of time in loading screens going back and forth from a planet, just to read an email on your ship, which would then tell me to travel to another planet, then I would fly there just to hear a bit of dialogue just to then fly back to the planet I was on originally. The pacing for the game was off for me. And the load screens needed for each of those trips were long, even on the PS5 which is when i first played it.
I still intend to go back and finish it but it did feel like a chore at times.
@Rich33 The Hogwarts Legacy situation was a confusing one. Whilst you're right in saying that it did its best to distance itself from JK and her points of view, there was actively a boycott from both sides of the coin.
Those that disagreed with the inclusion of Sirona Ryan were supposedly stirring up boycotting rumors, but then so were the more progressive side. They felt that whilst JK may not have been directly involved in the project, the game itself was releasing near enough to the time she made her comments known on the internet. They felt that was a good enough reason to go out and not buy the product.
Following on from my last point, the original boycotters then used this media storm to decide actually you know what we're going to buy this game out of spite to the other crowd.
The IP itself is so massive and so loved i dont think any boycott that did or didn't happen wouldn't have put a dent in the sales anyway.
It was a solid game. Sitting between the 7/8 out of ten for me. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
@OmegaStriver That was a lot of games to cancel though. It was around 11 or 12 if i remember correctly. Thats a large chunk of the portfolio to just be deleted.
We have to accept its going to be slow for another 3 years minimum I'd say in terms of exclusives.
@Americansamurai1 They cancelled around 90% of the live service games they had in the works. It was around 11 or 12 games in total I think.
We have come to accept there is going to be a massive lull because all the studios that were working on these games have had to go back to the drawing board.
What else is left in the works. There's Wolverine and maybe another Insomniac title but again they were compromised with leaks and data theft.
Sony have made some bad decisions and unlucky in other areas. Its going to take years for them to get going again.
@Cry_Zero Yes its clunky but this game wouldn't have been compared to Uncharted it would have been compared to Resistance. I enjoyed both series but I'd have to give it to Gears over the Resistance series in my opinion.
For mee I dont care about graphical fidelity. I would be happy if the PS5 graphical benchmark carried on throughout the PS6 and even PS7.
All i am interested in now is higher framerates! Give me 60FPS for all open world games and 120FPS for a couple of shooters here and there and Im set for life.
This constant push for photorealistic graphics seems to be at the detriment of gameplay. Sorry to the pixel counters who love playing 4k 30fps.
@J-Dubs Agreed. Playing on the Pro I only had one bug on launch day. After that everything ran smoothly and got the plat too.
Yes not everybody had a smooth sailing experience with bugs, particularly on other platforms.
Other than bugs a lot of the hate comes from this preconceived notion that it was going to be the next GTA.
It was never meant to be GTA, it was always marketed as a linear cinematic game but the media kept pushing the ex GTA publishers name in all of the articles. Everybody got hung up on it being the next GTA even though it was never meant to be.
I do partly blame the dev team for that though as their marketing for this game was almost non-existent.
@Shigurui Unfortunately I can't confirm on base console. On Pro last time I checked it was vastly improved.
Even when it was unoptimised the issues and stutters were only really when you were in the major towns but I remember playing approx 6 months after release with little to no issues and there have been a slew of patches since so go for it!
I've still yet to play a ton of RPGs/open world action games but it's my second favourite game of all time behind Elden Ring
@shgamer I'm playing on PS5 Pro and can confirm everything you have said is correct. On launch day I had one graphical glitch when transitioning from cutscene to gameplay where the player character was falling through the floor for about 5 seconds but since then no technical hiccups.
Looks great and runs great now.
Yeah its a bit bare bones in terms of mechanics but there's just enough in there to make the gameplay loop oddly satisfying to me at least anyway.
I really like the linear style in an open world setting, it gives it that sense of urgency when trying to uncover what exactly is going on as opposed to getting sidetracked by meaningless side quests and activities.

@Leinad7 I mean considering he started out in comic books and is a violent mature character, sounds like the trailer hit the nail on the head!
I know what you mean though, as much as i loved it, something did feel off. I haven't watched it in a while so can't remember what it was.
