"I just re-downloded this game, trying once again to get into it. The game looks amazing, but something about this one just doesn't do it for me."

You know, I feel the same way.
I don't know why, but I have always felt the same way.
I re-install, start to play it again and within a few days, I just fall off again. I thought I was the only one....

Re: Poll: Do You Play Horror Games Around Halloween?

Svark

Every year the grandkids and I play Costume Quest. There are two in the series and they are both excellent. I'm not really a big fan of horror games per se, but I love playing this with them. I also try to watch "Young Frankenstein" every Halloween. My favorite Mel Brooks classic.

"This is a GAME CHANGER! As an aging gamer, I struggle to hear some of those higher frequencies in games."

I am also an older gamer and find that I have exactly the same thing happen in games with sound. It is nice to see Sony recognizing that some of us have issues with age, but still love to game.

Re: Upcoming PS5 Games for April and May 2025

Svark

I have already pre-ordered Indiana Jones and Expedition 33.
Going to be a great April!

Now, I just have to get farther into KCD2 (85 hours so far). It has been, remarkable. Game of the Year contender without doubt.

Re: It Takes Two Film Flailing, Even Josef Fares Is in the Dark

Svark

OK, I am going against the grain here.... but... How the heck do you do a movie about 2 people spending their time in split screen doing jumping and sliding?
I suppose it would be relatively easy to make this an animated film (live action? I don't think so...) but what are you bringing to the party that would cause folks to want to see it?
I think Hazelight should just take it's option money and walk into the sunset.
Complaining about it will not make any Hollywood producer want to work with you.

"I'm just wondering if the combat still sucks, don't care what anyone says the combat in the first game is terrible ....."

From my experience KCD2 combat is MUCH better, especially at 60 fps.
Just about everything in this sequel is better than the original. You do not need to play the first game to experience KCD2. In fact, I have told my mates that are interested to jump right into KCD2 and just ignore the original.
The game is setup to give you enough back story information that you can jump right in here.
Come on folks, let's support Warhorse and get KCD2.
If you like big open worlds, I think you are going to have a fantastic time with this game.
Now... I have to get back to 1403 AD.

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (PS5) - Immersive Knight Sim Makes for a Peerless RPG

Svark

To all those that have asked, it is NOT necessary to play the first game. You can jump right into this one.

I have been working with a friend that is doing a review and have had the chance to watch him play for about 20 hours.
KCD 2 does a wonderful job of picking up from the first game and there are a number of story overviews that are on line for KCD. But frankly, the story for the first one is quite threadbare, it is the experience that is the real deal.
Warhorse has taken it over the top with KCD2.

You will be able to talk to a dozen people a month from now and their experience and story will be markedly different from each other. Please jump right into this one because the first game is a classic, but it is a little janky and not completely ready for prime time.

This game (from what I have seen so far) is due to be a classic that folks will be playing years from now.

My understanding from the video was that he WAS using her dice.
I think that is amazing!
There she is, in her underwear, playing for "beggars" as everything she had is gone.
Serves her right for cheating Henry and thinking she would get away with it.
No other game that I know of would do this. Fantastic stuff!
I sent this video to 4 friends and 3 of them turned around and ordered the game.
Feb 4 can't come quickly enough for me.

Re: Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2's Script Reputedly Dwarfs That of Lesser RPGs

@Fiendish-Beaver
Wow, @Svark! I doff my cap to you, Sir. I'll wind my neck in,and settle for second oldest!....
Also, I have the Collector's Edition of Kingdom Come 2 on pre-order. So us old boys clearly have taste... 😉

As time goes by my friend, I would hope to be 61 again. As we all know, getting older has it's advantages and disadvantages. As for your taste in games, it is right in alignment with mine.
Is there someway we can connect off line to exchange information? I would love to add you to my small friends list on Playstation. Maybe we could play something together down the road.... Thank you my friend.

"Being the confirmed old boy of these forums (at least no one has come to deny me as of yet!), and as a very juvenile 61 year old."
Sorry my friend, but in age you did come up a little short. I was born in November of 1952, making me 72 years old. Been a gamer (board, video, computer) going back to the early 80s, so I've seen a lot of genres come and go and come again. Since I am now retired, I get the chance to play a lot of video games. My favorites over the last few years include Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, and Yakuza, Infinite Wealth. I just can not play anything any more that calls for extreme reflexes (I'm looking at you Black Myth and Call of Duty). However, we are spoiled for choice at this time. I believe we are certainly living in a golden age of gaming. But each age has had it's front runners. On a side bar, I have been following the Beaver for quite a while as your tastes seem to really line up with mine. Next, I am really excited for Kingdom Come Deliverance II, Civ 7, and Pirate Yakuza.

Re: Ex-PlayStation Exec Shawn Layden Says There's Been a 'Collapse' in Gaming Creativity

Svark

I think what he said is valid. Right now, there are no folks that understand what "fun" is at the top of the ladder. They simply want to chase any golden goose that they think is going to bring in the most money. Not what would entertain and by definition return profit to the company. There are exceptions, but I think he is right.

What Sony (and others) need is someone near the top of the ladder that understands what fun is because they play games. Like Shu Yoshida. At one time, he was closer to the top of the food chain and had more influence in getting fun games made. Then we had Jim Ryan that would not know a fun game if it hit him in the face. I still believe he was never a gamer. His mantra was $$$$ over fun for people. Now Herman H. (the father and supporter of Concord) and other "C" suite suits are following the Jim Ryan model.
Bean counters that are not creative ALWAYS chase someone else's work.
I spent years working for Hollywood studios as an executive and I saw the same thing every day. (It's like 6th Sense combined with Raiders of the Lost Ark. It's going to make a ton of money.)

Thank God for the independent marketplace. Otherwise, with the exception of AstroBot, Elden Ring, and BG3, I think the rest of the AAA space could just go away. Here is what those big games have in common.
They are fun!
Interesting that each one of these games are in the single player space, rather than Games As A Service.

Re: Beloved Co-Op Platformer It Takes Two Has Sold a Whopping 20 Million Copies

Svark

@Czar_Khastik
Although I didn't think about it when I posted, actually it seems that 1 copy of the game is enough because there is a "friends pass" feature that supposedly lets a friend download an "unlicensed" copy from PSN which he can play only as a guest of the primary buyer's session.

That is kind of true. You can invite a friend that does not have the game to your session, however, that is only good for the first level. If they would want to continue after that, they would have to purchase their own copy of the game. While I absolutely think that it is worth it as ITT is a wonderful game, I do think it is a little slimy to have folks think that they can play with anyone that does not own the complete game.

Re: Marvel Rivals' Closed Beta Is Putting Concord's Player Numbers into Perspective

Svark

@bindiana

"....But most people will know Marvel Rivals will do quite well just off the Marvel name alone."

That is true... but remember that Avengers GaaS was a complete bomb. There are just too many looter/hero shooters trying to grab a piece of the pie. If there is anything we can point to here, it is corporate greed trying to squeeze more money out of a relatively small group of players.
