A lot like most big releases nowadays, Borderlands 4 hopes you will commit to playing it long past the completion of its story campaign. The sort of content enticing you back will be large expansions, seasonal events, and mission packs full of bonus gear.

Gearbox Software has shared a roadmap detailing what to expect in the first few months following the 12th September 2025 launch, with the first main DLC confirmed to be named Mad Ellie and the Vault of the Damned. This arrives in Q1 2026, but before then is a seasonal mini-event and two Bounty Packs. The latter contains new story missions, bosses, cosmetics, and gear, so they sound like substantial enough updates in between the bigger expansions.

Here's what the initial content roadmap looks like:

Borderlands 4 PS5 2

If you want instant access to everything listed above (as it releases), you will need to get the Super Deluxe Edition of Borderlands 4, at £119.99 / $129.99. The Deluxe Edition, for £89.99 / $99.99, includes all the content except for the big DLC in the black column.

If you've played any of the full-fledged DLC adventures from Borderlands 3, you can expect a similar level of intense looter shooter action, gripping stories, and killer new loot to collect in the Borderlands 4's Story Pack DLCs. We know that additional Vault Hunters are always a big request from the community, so we can't wait for you to meet Borderlands 4's DLC Vault Hunters. It also can't be understated how impactful each DLC Vault Hunter will be, each offering all-new possibilities and build playstyles with their three unique Action Skills and branching skill trees just like the base game Vault Hunters.

In terms of free updates for all players, there'll be Invincible Bosses to test your skills against, weekly challenges to complete, and the chance to earn Pearlescent rarity gear, which is the tier above Legendary. The update for that new gear type will arrive early next year.

Beyond what's already been confirmed, Borderlands 4 will also receive a second large expansion, two additional Bounty Packs, and more after release. Are you happy to know Borderlands 4 will be supported well after launch? Let us know in the comments below.
