Re: Jim Ryan Retires as PlayStation Boss in March 2024

S1ayeR74

@Sakai I don’t think much of his service games idea at all, and he did show some arrogance in the ActiBliz trials IMO, but he did oversee the fully successful launch of a new console during a global pandemic and has come out selling double the main competitor, ignoring Nintendo of course.

Re: Microsoft One Step Closer to Activision Buyout as CMA Approves of Deal Changes

S1ayeR74

@Martsmall Because nothing is given away for free. For the Game Pass model to work it either needs massive numbers in its user base or pride increases. It was only the first that we have had. MS doesn't have the numbers yet. When you are spending a couple of hundred million for big games to be in the service you need massive cash flow to make it a viable business model.
Sony are the same, but Sony seem to want their service to compliment PlayStation consoles, Microsoft seem to want Game Pass to replace the Xbox console and will eventually be Xbox, their next gen console is a test bed for that being reported as a hybrid cloud based system.

Also those rewards? A lot of them are based in you completing tasks in Game Pass games... thus another incentive to make you buy the service. And it is up to Microsoft's discretion to change how they work or scrap the rewards scheme if they choose. MS are currently spending billions on Xbox from all sides, it will want a return on that sooner or later.

Re: Xbox Almost Flashed Its Cash At Warner Bros, Sees Nintendo As the Holy Grail

S1ayeR74

@elpardo1984 What have Sony done? Paid for exclusivity, that’s all, they may have bought some studios but not many, and I think Bungie was their biggest purchase! And that was solely on the agreement all their games can be multiplat. There has been nothing stopping MS from out bidding Sony on exclusivity deals, nothing! And yet they year after year after the 360 just never bothered, and now to catch up they are just buying the biggest studios in the business with the biggest games titles, and if they weren’t forced to they would make them all exclusive too.

So whilst I agree Sony may have performed some questionable acts in the last, paying for exclusivity is a long way from buying the entire studio making the game! And a HELL of a lot more expensive. One way takes some games from other platforms, the other takes ALL games from other platforms.

Re: Xbox Almost Flashed Its Cash At Warner Bros, Sees Nintendo As the Holy Grail

S1ayeR74

My Series X is literally boxed up, waiting for me to package it in a brown box, weigh it for postage costs and put it on eBay, because I am sick of the forced ads on it and Starfield is just meh. Reading the news of a digital only online required only future with the brand just cements my decision. Think I’ll go PS5 and Nintendos next console. Quality gaming.

But also reading about the fact they seriously considered buying Nintendo do is frightening, it would destroy Ninty and cause irreparable damage to the entire games market and the consumers would lose out big time, hey but at least it would be a ‘career moment’ for Spencer right? Microsoft hasn’t changed at all, even with new leadership they are still as monopolistic as ever in their mindset.

Re: Xbox Almost Flashed Its Cash At Warner Bros, Sees Nintendo As the Holy Grail

S1ayeR74

So basically Phil has visions of having a total monopoly over PC and Console global gaming market. Kinda why I sided with the CMA and its stance against the ActiBliz buy out. But I do not think they will ever be allowed to buy Nintendo unless they force the share holders to sell and likewise with Valve, but this does give a glimpse of the monopolistic mindset they have. They seriously need to just invest those billions into their current studios, and make some damn games.

Re: Poll: Are You Sold on PlayStation Portal?

S1ayeR74

The market for this is so niche, I can’t see it lasting more then 2 years in production, we will see though. I mean I would say it’s totally pointless if you use your PS5 controller with an iPad for instance and remote play. I can understand why Sony hasn’t made another real portable system though, as it’s MUCH simpler having one platform, and Nintendo kinda dominate the mobile console space.
I have a Steam Deck and a Switch Lite I just got second hand, and the Switch is instantly a better system for me, but yes you lose a lot of power then.

Re: Sony's Portable PS5 Streaming Handheld Launches Later This Year

S1ayeR74

@SillyBoyJudas If it works over WiFi outside your home. That would make sense if it does. However as it’s WiFi only, I have a feeling it’ll be expensive. Because otherwise surely they would have priced it accordingly to offer a 5G version as well? If it does work outside the house on WiFi as you suggest then it becomes a bit more useful. Still it’ll be a bit bulky I think looking at that design and an 8” screen.

Re: Sony's Portable PS5 Streaming Handheld Launches Later This Year

S1ayeR74

Looks awful looks cheap, literally like some modder made it and posted it on You Tube, hey look what I did with my Sony tablet and Dual Sense. And only PS5 games over WiFi? Why? It serves a minuscule market at best. Looks like a total waste of time and money in R&D IMO.
I had a Vita but sold it, it's alright but was a bit meh to me. I much prefer my PSP which I still have. But Sony totally missed a trick here, the handheld market is on FIRE right now and will only get bigger, and they came out with this thing? They could have easily made a Vita 2 and the world have gone nuts.

Re: Poll: Was This Sony's Best PlayStation Showcase Yet?

S1ayeR74

That was truly awful. Everyone expected Metal Gear and Final Fantasy, Spider Man 2 graphically looked like a PS4 game and they showed the entire game nearly. And who the hell is going to buy a PS5 only streaming device? Who??. Marathon was the only exciting game and that’s been know about for ages.

Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Might Be Gaming's Best Subscription Service Now

S1ayeR74

@thefourfoldroot1 Thats the beauty of Game Pass, it has a huge difference in genre of games. No one will play everything on it as it won’t suit all your tastes. As for big AAA games recently, that’s a trap, but the fact is they DO release them, all, day and date. Sony does not. And then it has all the Bethesda games on it for instance so Fallout etc.

Re: Xbox Boss Admits Microsoft Can't 'Outconsole' PS5

S1ayeR74

@Chaosbros Exactly, but sadly they are obsessed with making everything a service now. But I only really care about Gears Of War and State Of Decay. At least one of those is getting a sequel at some point, but I'll buy those games. All I've really played in Game Pass are brilliant indie games like Deliver Us The Moon or The Gunk. That's where I've found value and I haven't played a lot either.

Re: Xbox Boss Admits Microsoft Can't 'Outconsole' PS5

S1ayeR74

I should add personally I have played a handful of games from Game Pass and they've been great, but none have been MS ones, I've tried Forza and Halo and then kinda stopped playing them. Gears is the one series I love and I played that one, it would be the one game to keep me on Xbox but there is no news of any new one coming.
Quick Resume has been Xbox's most redeeming feature to be honest. That works brilliantly. So I'll probably keep my Series X and get a PS5 Slim and find time for both. But I won't be buying another Xbox.

Re: Xbox Boss Admits Microsoft Can't 'Outconsole' PS5

S1ayeR74

His last answer has nearly concreted my decision to sell my Series X and move to PS5. It's obvious he and Microsoft are fully committed to turning Xbox to a service now and not a platform, they'll put more resources into Xcloud and Game Pass. The reason games have been running better on PS5 is because Xbox introduces an entirely new development platform this gen. Sony just updated their old one. Add that to Phil's 'hands off' approach to studios including their own, and you can see what games have struggled, teams aren't experienced enough to utilise the new toolsets and platform but isn't providing the support they need to.
Sony is actively going to studios including third party ones and helping them optimise games for its platform.

And then he said we can't make a 11 out of 10 Starfield game. We want our creators to be creative! So they can make any crap they like and not chase decent review scores?

One of my favourite games this gen, and the one that helped nudge me towards Xbox is in PS5, The Ascent, and a lot of others I like too are so I'm going 'back' to PlayStation, I only have time for one console. Maybe a Switch too, and that won't be Xbox moving forward.

Read between the lines and look at Microsoft's business model and I doubt they'll have a console next gen. I also doubt here in the UK they will get ActiBliz either, but having learnt the huge share of cloud streaming services MS has a grip on I'm not surprised. MS must have known that and that it would be a stumbling block.
I would say they need to stop buying the biggest games studios and put more effort into what they have, but as Phil showed here that's not their business model now.

Re: PS5 Pro Is '100%' Happening, Says Reliable Report

S1ayeR74

It seems stupid to me to do this if it’s true, the PS5 just like the XSX have not been pushed to their limits at all! The only reasonable next gen game so far was the Dead Space remake, and only one game Ratchet seems to have used the PS5 SSD to its advantage.
How about they knock out tens of actual next gen games first that push the PS5 before launching a Pro model? But I don’t believe this rumour anyway. Only one I believe is the PS5 Slim.
And that fact any PS5 Pro will ,illegal cost 600 plus in the UK also makes it seem bogus.

Re: UK's Activision Buyout Block Prevents Microsoft from Trying Again for 10 Years

S1ayeR74

I think Microsoft should have never tried to buy Activision Blizzard and instead used its money to sort out its existing studios, and make decent games and actually release them! Not release 30FPS rushed games because Game Pass needs constant content.

I’m switching to PS5. Given up waiting for Xbox games and I can stream the ones I want anyway. They aren’t managing their existing studios well, extra power means nothing without decent content to use it. Just debating on disk or digital PS5?

When I heard that MS has 60 to 70% of global games services market I agreed with the CMA’s decision. MS are trying to monopolise that market for sure.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Episode 4 - A Heart-Warming Breather

S1ayeR74

Thank God, back to the story at hand moving it along. Not a pointless love story that doesn’t seem to do anything for the main story? And was completely different to the game. Still the connection between Joel and Ellie feels nice existent to forced and synthetic at the moment. Very odd seeing more of the older Ellie personality in the younger Ellie in the show.

Re: TV Show Review: The Last of Us (HBO) Episode 1 - Faithful Retelling Deviates in the Right Ways

S1ayeR74

Joel is cast well, Ellie is cast well and she’s really captured the game characters attitude. No idea why they changed the race of Joel’s daughter? She’s only in it for 15 minutes. But so far it’s great, exactly like the game pretty much, not sure why I expected anything else lol. Looking forward to them killing off Joel… hate TLOU2, maybe I should play it again to see if I like it anymore? This she is going to make me want to play the first game again too haha. TLOU and Uncharted are the only reasons I have a PS.

Re: Microsoft Invites Sony to Sign Its Own 10-Year Call of Duty Deal

S1ayeR74

@Ravix The FTC president is a crazy democrat, who seems to literally hate large successful corporations no matter who they are. She has blocked several large deals, and I believe several were challenged in court and the FTC lost, they are going out of their remit and policies due to the presidents actions. Latest reports are due to this history they are split on the deal, and in all probability to save themselves further embarrassment they'll let it through.

Re: PS5 Price Increase Has Some Japanese Players Praying for PC Port of Final Fantasy 16

S1ayeR74

@thefourfoldroot1 I can tell your delusion by claiming MS is working on a monopoly. They make a profit on Game Pass you know as do the developers. It comes from the massive number of subscribers. Sony are making a profit on every PS5, they have done for about a year now, this price increase will only further that profit margin. But hey you defend it like you are, heaven forbid you’d ever criticise Sony for ‘anything’. And Nintendo have been making a profit and outselling everyone for several years now, so yet again your argument is not really valid.
And Sony has the monopoly in effect by being the dominant market leader.

Re: PS5 Price Increase Has Some Japanese Players Praying for PC Port of Final Fantasy 16

S1ayeR74

@thefourfoldroot1 You sure have a great alternate reality field.. Sony have the monopoly, they have the biggest share by far out of the players in the market; so you should be asking yourself that very question.. instead of making excuses for a ridiculous price gouging increase in the PS5. I've never seen a group of consumers defend a multi billion dollar corporations price increase so much. It's ridiculous. And your statement makes no sense what to ever in its attempt to defend this move.
I'm glad Japanese consumers are mad at Sony, hope they lose mass market share over there now, Nintendo will be the winners then and PC's it seems.
