@cburg We shall see, Xbox don't announce console sales, because they are so low. Time will tell of Sony's reduced sales predictions are correct, however Sony I don't think are in trouble, they aren't spending several hundred million each quarter to put a single game day and date on their subscription platform. Plus a new Nintendo console coming out will impact their market and Xbox too.

@get2sammyb If you pay very close attention to the ‘fluff’ everyone’s ignored, they suggest they are in a bit of trouble, haven’t grown, laid off staff, finances not growing. So don’t be surprised to see some big name games come across, or Game Pass appear on Nintendos new console. I think they will also increase advertising and change Game Pass pricing and content across different levels. They were also nervous during the interview.

@TheLotteryMan1 You know what, I thought Ryan was talking out of his ass when he questioned the Game Pass model, and why he would not follow it, then I found out Microsoft are paying up to 300 million for some of the big AAA games on it, and I saw those subscriber numbers plateau and I saw where Ryan was coming from after all.

@Grumblevolcano Nintendo? Their are only a few games that the Switch can handle really, expect HIFi Rush, but the Switch 2 or whatever it’s called, now that’s something else and I imagine it may get Starfield etc.

These layoffs will have been planned ages ago, part of the merger plans. People are always laid off when mergers happen. Hope they got good redundancy pay though.

@PixelDragon Agreed, although Microsoft will exist as a streaming service. I can see them pulling out in a gen or two. They matched Sony during the PS3 360 gen, then ruined themselves with the Xbox One, and this gen hasn’t proved a comeback really, doing a lot better but not a comeback.

@TrickyDicky99 Then that is still very very far behind Sony and Nintendo. They don’t want console sales though they want Game Pass subscribers, and if they do not grow, as they said themselves they will leave the gaming industry.

@PixelDragon It will be very interesting when the new Nintendo console launches how Xbox Series sales will be impacted even further. It’s not looking good for them.

Hence why the Xbox Series is almost on a fire sale now to boost its numbers, all this shows is that Xbox will be a streaming service and software house sooner rather then later.

@RawnDawn Because politicians will request they are found and dealt with, and they CAN be found, Sony couldn’t give two craps about hackers and never has, two massive hacks and customer and employee data being stolen should tell you that. No system is impenetrable but Sonys seem very weak on security, and they don’t prosecute anyone and prefer to settle anything out of court. And thus they become an easy target.

That’s a real shame, I looked forward to watching it every year. I don’t think the replacement events are as good.

Why is their network so unreliable? Throughout any given year they seem to have several random issues affecting large parts of the network. Don’t they use Microsofts Azure network now?

@guntam What is laughable is you defending a lawyer out for a big pay day, which will mean if they are successful you as a consumer will be waiting years for a payout of pennies, ignore the monetary value stated here as it'll never be that much. And it won't force Sony to change anything apart from be at a disadvantage to MS.

Lots of lovely fluffy pro consumer words, but really the agenda behind all that is this lawyer wants to make millions for herself and has seen a loophole way to do it. This type if trial is only worth anything if the same ruling is then applied to every other store front taking a 30% cut, which as we know is pretty much every big name store. Not sure how much Valve takes though from Steam sales?

@Grumblevolcano Yeap and that will impact the quality, they can't keep spending 200 million per AAA game they put on the service, which is what they are currently doing, Ryan was right when he said it wasn't a sustainable model. Even MS has limits on how much it'll keep spending, it needs a return on the investment and that will mean more price hikes, a LOT more advertising on the Xbox platform you can't get rid of, and a harsh push for subscriber growth, I think in 2025 they will start making Xbox exclusives Game Pass only exclusive. Like State Of Decay 3 and Perfect Dark, we shall see though.

@MrMagic Yeap it is, I sold my Series X though due to the ads being forced on you on it, all to pay for that Game Pass, not for me. Put the money towards new PS5 disk which I got for £380 from John Lewis, I know someone who works for Waitrose so they get 12% off, and that was on top of the special price promo on the EA football bundle JL we’re running. They had the COD MW3 pack for £410 the other day, Xbox can’t compete with that.

This guarantees will premiere at the Game Awards in early December then, it’ll just be more of the same anyway though won’t it? And still sell millions and millions and millions of copy’s like COD does.
I wonder if they’ve toned the game down at all for the current world, I hope not, I hope they’ve made it even more gritty!

@2here2there Yeap, I mean the leaks stated they are going to have a hybrid console that relies on the cloud for full games performance, and I bet they’ll be making some games Game Pass exclusive, so you’ll have to sub to it to play them.

Just more evidence I think of MS ditching consoles all together in 2 gens maybe. They solely rely on services and most likely make games Game Pass exclusive too, so you won’t be able to buy them but have to subscribe to own them.
Meanwhile PlayStation will still be selling great hardware and making great games and hold a dominant market share.

@AsterZero Well Sone did replace the majority of the board, and they chose to chase after the American market first, but I don’t think they counted on Microsoft buying Activision. They should have left it as it was really. Not ditch their home town.

Still glad I got the giant OG model, that slim one looks really aren’t jiving with me. Sony does have some odd designs with its home consoles lol. But then I think the PSP was a stunning piece of design.

@species It's COD, you know what you get but at least you get a decent game for one sticker price, all the extra paid for stuff is entirely optional. I enjoy COD I have to say. Although I did get the Terminator pack in Vanguard as it was awesome running around as the T800 lol.

@species COD is still the number one selling game every year pretty much. So there is that. Remember the mass majority in the west play COD, FIFA and Fortnite. Oh and Minecraft and that's pretty much it.

Reading between the lines it sounds like 'experts' trying to change Sony's business model to match America's methods, and no doubt they'll cash in on it.

Reality is Sony doesn't need to buy anyone, they do so in a smart way, not sure what a big acquisition will add to them?

MS could have easily paid more then Sony and locked down exclusive deals etc, but that's not their business model, their model is to pretty much only let you rent games for a while paying a monthly sub, whilst also being blasted with endless ads to pay for it all. They don't want you to own anything.

Shame they are trying to destroy Sonys business model which is the opposite, and gives you a reason to own a PlayStation. Even if the games were on PC they are sold to you, not rented for a few weeks or months so long as you pay the monthly fee.

@Deadsea93 Well if you think about it, what Microsoft wanted originally with the Xbox One launch, they are finally getting under the radar. All digital sales, constant online checks required, and a Game Subscription service so you won’t buy any physical games. How long till they start making those Game Pass games digital only? The only thing missing is Kinect.

@Godot25 I wasn’t implying that the AWS / Microsoft cloud investigation has to do with gaming, I also never said using cloud to run games was the same as cloud gaming, although it is a link to a cloud only gaming future as it requires computers in the cloud to run it all. You seemed to have made a lot of assumptions.

My point was they are investing in cloud heavily, and if they do use the cloud to power their next console then it’s hard to accept their claim of winding down cloud gaming. It’s more of a case of they are going in a different direction with it I think. It’s obvious they want Game Pass to be the dominant way you play in the future. And PC Game Pass is meant to be growing last I heard?

So yeah I wouldn’t pay too much attention to what they ‘say’, Microsoft and Amazon have both been reported for investigation by the CMA in the UK for cloud services and their monopoly, they own over 80% of the market between them. Cloud is HUGE business Amazon makes more money from its cloud services AWS then any other part of their business including the online store! MS are going to try and drag gaming into that world, Game Pass will be the only way how you play their games one day.

I appreciated the CMA blocking the deal initially as no one else would, and COD will be on all platforms for 10 years minimum now.
I just hope MS leave them alone to do what they want, cause personally I found Starfield to dull as dishwater boring.

Sadly I expect this is a green light for the big boys to just hoover everyone up now, once a deal this big goes through, the rest will jump on the bandwagon.

This is the one I was looking at getting.

I'm planning on getting a 2 terabyte drive, is the Western Digital Black SN850X still a good one? It is cheaper then the official PlayStation branded Western Digital drives. I did note that one drive was faster but will the PS5 need or use that extra speed?

Gotta say it's pretty impressive they will include your digital games. So if you are away you can leave your PS5 off saving your electric bill, and still stream your games. Very cool. Gives there Portal thing some more worth.

@TommyNL Exactly, but some like the idea, the slimmer digital model looks nice though on that vertical stand. Wonder if they’ve updated the wireless in it?
Still they should have priced it so the digital plus separate disk drive is the same price as the one with the disk drive, instead the combination is now more expensive.
I think it’s a sign though that next gen will be all digital only. Like with the new updated Series X coming out. But yeah I’m liking the new digital PS5.

Again as I said on the other article, if you look closely it has a clear plastic peg that holds it up when it's vertical. Cheap and nasty looking, don't isn't flat on the bottom at all.

If you notice, the one with the disk drive laying in its side has some cheap looking clear plastic leg holding it up. I bet that goes in the gap between those new panels, and comes in the box with the disk drive model.

Makes the already really ugly new disk model even uglier. So so so glad I just got an OG PS5 disk model..
