It's nice to get Lego Horizon even if I don't have a ps5. Essential is decent that you can claim games, unsubscribe then you have access to them again when you resubscribe.
My opinion is that it's late in the ps5 console life cycle and it's hard to point to many exclusive ps5 must play titles. Sure the ps5 has a big library of games but most of the titles are either available on the ps4 or other consoles.
Sony's current problem is that they are only producing a handful of games than expect to continue to make tons of money from them. Like spend 1-2 million on a game that might make between 3-7 million is ok, but spending $50,000 on a game that can easily make 3-4 million and possibly more is a better bet. Sony is too focused on the Hollywood movie spending idea where lots of movie studios make big budget movies and frequently movies don't break even. Sony should have had all Sony published titles on ps+ premium on day one, and have worked towards creating remasters of the ps3 titles.
The ps+ premium had great potential but it has gone under-utilized. Most developers would rather release a remastered version that is multi platform which is near guaranteed to make money.
My opinion is that the actual form factor of the ps5 is what is holding it back in Japan. The console is absolutely huge likely making it the biggest console ever, or at least one of the top ones. MS introduced the S controller in Japan to replace the original large duke controller.
Likely it's too little too late. I personally am not a fan of the Switch 2 but it's bigger advantage is that it's portable and can be played when you're taking a bus or train which can be a big benefit in Japan. Given most non Sony games are available on the Switch the ps5 is a hard sell.
This is exactly what frustrates me with the Playstation this generation. Sony has made tons of classics single player games and they peaked with the ps4. Now with the ps5 Sony has little interest in making single player games and only wants live service titles. The problem with live service games is that they are time intensive and they often disappear after a while or get completely reworked often for the worse.
@REALAIS But why spend the huge amount of money on a console today when you can wait a few years and will have the best and newest console available. For the ps5 it sells for $700 to $800 plus tax which is a huge amount and of money which your almost better waiting for the ps6 and spurge on that instead. It's not a good time for a gamer to get a ps5, it's a good time for Sony for people to buy the ps5. The main drivers for people buying ps5's are games like Destiny 2, Fornite, COD, Helldivers and GTA. Outside of these titles there few must play games.
@REALAIS The prices for the consoles are lower in the states compared to anywhere else. And TV's are actually cheaper in Canada compared to the states. I highly suspect all the so called news articles that go on about how great the ps5 is doing are written by Sony. The PS4 did as well as it did because it was a huge leap from the ps3. I think that most people who want a ps5 already have one. I stand by what I said that it's a terrible time to upgrade or get a new console at the middle to late point in a console generation.
@REALAIS I seriously doubt that. The ps4 launched at a lower price and got a price drop later on. The ps4 had tons of new games but the ps5 seems to just have endless remasters of ps4 titles in my opinion. Sony is selling the ps5 at around $800 here then makes a big deal when they drop it to $750. Sony's marketing makes me think that the sales are stagnant. And Sony has always reported units shipped not units sold. Sony started doing this with the ps3 and kept doing this.
Sony is hyper focused on selling as many consoles as possible and they want to maximize the sales of the current consoles before they announce the next generation consoles. I personally find with the current generation of consoles there is little incentive to get into the new consoles when you are over half way through a generation since they stopped dropping the prices of consoles anymore. With consoles being full price from day one all the way through the generation there is little incentive to upgrade or get a better console. My opinion is that with the current prices that are sometimes more than day 1 it's almost better to wait until the next generation to upgrade. Unless you have money to burn it's better to wait in my opinion.
Sony and Microsoft should stop wasting their money giving it to Rockstar for 6 months of GTA 5. There are lots of other titles which could be had cheaper and longer but they keep wasting money on GTA 5.
The game is a copy cat game that borrows a few elements from Horizon to make similar but different game. Sony is likely going after this because they don't have many better ideas for new games. Sony has tons of classic franchises which they have no interest in making new games for but would rather focus on a few new titles.
It seems Sony desperately wants ps4 users to upgrade to the ps5, even though the ps5 is a few years away. Sony is offering $135 in store credit if you upgrade to the ps5 by November 19.
My opinion is that Crunchyroll was always far superior to Funimation and to me the best shows on Crunchyroll was the Dragonball and Gundam shows. Nobody is going to spend money on useless merchandise but that is Crunchyroll's new focus. Sony bought tons of anime because they somehow saw potential but only a fraction are top performers and the rest are titles few people watch.
This looks like a rare sequel that improves on the original game greatly. The original is very much a souls like game but the new title adds a whole new dimension to the game.
The big established live service games suck up most of the gamers which means it hard for new titles to get a foothold. And most of the live service games are whale hunting and the casual gamers are of minor importance.
I personally believe they went overboard on making the hard mode too difficult so they added the streamlined mode to balance this out. The actual enemies are less of a problem then the no mana regeneration and no items which spikes the difficulty.
My guess is Cosco knows information that is not publicly available. If MS was planning to release a new Xbox console at around the price of the Xbox Series X then retailers would mark down their stock of Xbox consoles so they don't lose money. My prediction is that the base model of the Xbox Series 2 will be all digital and only the Xbox Series 2 elite edition will support physical games/movies. With MS moving towards almost entirely digital it will be hard to move physical Xbox games. I also predict MS will release the Xbox series 2 in early 2026.
I am surprised that it took Sony this long. MS has some deal with Duracell which they included two Duracell batteries but they have always been replaceable with a battery pack which can be recharged. Also all Xbox one controllers can be used on the Series Xbox and via versa.
I am not a developer but it sounds like similar problems as Skyrim. I believe there was a rare bug that if you left too many items laying around it could cause glitches. My guess is that the AI has to keep track of too many variables which can strain system resources. I personally feel that this is due to rushed development and no bug testing or optimization.
Why do people want to pay $80+ for games that are pixel remasters that look worse than the originals? Why not try to aim for the ps2 level of graphics instead. I would play the remastered DQ 1-3 but they are hard on the eyes. Lunar the Complete Collection is one of the few that looks decent in my opinion.
Physical games are great but they rarely go on sale and most of the time you are paying full launch price. I find that most physical games will continue to sell for full price as long as they are available in a retail store and very rarely get any discount anymore.
It works for the Dragon Quest games since they tend to not take themselves seriously. My guess is that it simplifies the design work, just like how they make Goku's hair blonde when he when super saigan to cut down on the time to draw the anime.
Any subscription service will always have positives and negatives. It great to check out games to either finish them in one day or find the game isn't worth playing. But it's not really worth it to keep a subscription just to play a handful of games, you're better off waiting for a sale and purchasing the game outright. Sony offers various classic titles, all except original ps3 versions are available for purchase.
@dskatter I didn't even know this game existed and only read the article. From Metacritic it seems to be gamers either love it or hate it. And much of the people who don't like it is because of technical issues.
This is why developers should always be looking towards multi platform releases and should consider lowering prices rather than expecting console prices to drop. I haven't played the recent game but I remember playing Monster Hunter Icebourn and it was an always online game which wasn't something I wanted to play, since you will need a reasonable fast internet connection just to make the game playable. Most live service games are unnecessary and are a hassle to play even the single player part.
Developers could easily make an enhanced ps5 version of an existing ps4 game which is likely to make the money back quickly. The rising price of games is slowing the demand. New games sell for $90 on the Playstation and Xbox and the Switch 2 has games selling for $115. There is now more indie titles available which means that they are tons of cheaper gaming options. And Sony and Microsoft are guaranteed to release a new console in the near future.
Most live service/multiplayer games need a large audience to be remotely successful. And given it very hard to know where you will find the audience it's better to lean towards multiple platforms to guarantee success. Godfall was a failure on the PlayStation but found success on the Xbox. Babylon Fall and Concord could have found success on the Xbox as well. MS is likely keeping bring more Gears of Wars games to the Playstation and possibly Halo, since the main aspect is multiplayer.
@DaveTheRave I am personally surprised that Sony is keeping the ps3 and vita stores available when the games never go on sale and most of the vita games are seriously overpriced.
My guess is that Sony is only willing to pay up to a fixed amount to get a game on essential which means that only a handful of developers will actually consider the offer.
My opinion is to grab what digital titles you want from the ps3 when you can still since it's looking likely that the ps3 store is likely to close before 2026.
My guesses would be Spider Man and Horizon. Sony might also decide to port classic titles over to the Xbox. There is the Jax, Ratchet and Clank, Dark Cloud series all which could see a Xbox port.
