Re: Sony Estimated to Have Made $1.5 Billion from Steam, But the Novelty Is Wearing Off

Rodimusprime13

Sony's current problem is that they are only producing a handful of games than expect to continue to make tons of money from them. Like spend 1-2 million on a game that might make between 3-7 million is ok, but spending $50,000 on a game that can easily make 3-4 million and possibly more is a better bet. Sony is too focused on the Hollywood movie spending idea where lots of movie studios make big budget movies and frequently movies don't break even. Sony should have had all Sony published titles on ps+ premium on day one, and have worked towards creating remasters of the ps3 titles.

Re: Here's Why Sony Is Making a Japan-Specific PS5 Console

Rodimusprime13

Likely it's too little too late. I personally am not a fan of the Switch 2 but it's bigger advantage is that it's portable and can be played when you're taking a bus or train which can be a big benefit in Japan. Given most non Sony games are available on the Switch the ps5 is a hard sell.

Re: Another Horizon Online PS5 Game Is Coming Before Horizon 3, It's Claimed

Rodimusprime13

This is exactly what frustrates me with the Playstation this generation. Sony has made tons of classics single player games and they peaked with the ps4. Now with the ps5 Sony has little interest in making single player games and only wants live service titles. The problem with live service games is that they are time intensive and they often disappear after a while or get completely reworked often for the worse.

Re: PS5 'In the Middle' of Its Lifecycle, Claims Sony

Rodimusprime13

@REALAIS But why spend the huge amount of money on a console today when you can wait a few years and will have the best and newest console available. For the ps5 it sells for $700 to $800 plus tax which is a huge amount and of money which your almost better waiting for the ps6 and spurge on that instead. It's not a good time for a gamer to get a ps5, it's a good time for Sony for people to buy the ps5. The main drivers for people buying ps5's are games like Destiny 2, Fornite, COD, Helldivers and GTA. Outside of these titles there few must play games.

Re: PS5 'In the Middle' of Its Lifecycle, Claims Sony

Rodimusprime13

@REALAIS The prices for the consoles are lower in the states compared to anywhere else. And TV's are actually cheaper in Canada compared to the states. I highly suspect all the so called news articles that go on about how great the ps5 is doing are written by Sony. The PS4 did as well as it did because it was a huge leap from the ps3. I think that most people who want a ps5 already have one. I stand by what I said that it's a terrible time to upgrade or get a new console at the middle to late point in a console generation.

Re: PS5 'In the Middle' of Its Lifecycle, Claims Sony

Rodimusprime13

@REALAIS I seriously doubt that. The ps4 launched at a lower price and got a price drop later on. The ps4 had tons of new games but the ps5 seems to just have endless remasters of ps4 titles in my opinion. Sony is selling the ps5 at around $800 here then makes a big deal when they drop it to $750. Sony's marketing makes me think that the sales are stagnant. And Sony has always reported units shipped not units sold. Sony started doing this with the ps3 and kept doing this.

Re: PS5 'In the Middle' of Its Lifecycle, Claims Sony

Sony is hyper focused on selling as many consoles as possible and they want to maximize the sales of the current consoles before they announce the next generation consoles. I personally find with the current generation of consoles there is little incentive to get into the new consoles when you are over half way through a generation since they stopped dropping the prices of consoles anymore. With consoles being full price from day one all the way through the generation there is little incentive to upgrade or get a better console. My opinion is that with the current prices that are sometimes more than day 1 it's almost better to wait until the next generation to upgrade. Unless you have money to burn it's better to wait in my opinion.

Re: Sony's Increasing Power Over Anime Is Starting to Raise Some Eyebrows

Rodimusprime13

My opinion is that Crunchyroll was always far superior to Funimation and to me the best shows on Crunchyroll was the Dragonball and Gundam shows. Nobody is going to spend money on useless merchandise but that is Crunchyroll's new focus. Sony bought tons of anime because they somehow saw potential but only a fraction are top performers and the rest are titles few people watch.

Re: PS6 May Go Uncontested as Rumours of Next-Gen Xbox Cancellation Spiral

Rodimusprime13

My guess is Cosco knows information that is not publicly available. If MS was planning to release a new Xbox console at around the price of the Xbox Series X then retailers would mark down their stock of Xbox consoles so they don't lose money. My prediction is that the base model of the Xbox Series 2 will be all digital and only the Xbox Series 2 elite edition will support physical games/movies. With MS moving towards almost entirely digital it will be hard to move physical Xbox games. I also predict MS will release the Xbox series 2 in early 2026.

Re: Even More Ex-Xbox Executives Speak Out About 'Tension' of Game Pass

Rodimusprime13

Any subscription service will always have positives and negatives. It great to check out games to either finish them in one day or find the game isn't worth playing. But it's not really worth it to keep a subscription just to play a handful of games, you're better off waiting for a sale and purchasing the game outright. Sony offers various classic titles, all except original ps3 versions are available for purchase.

Re: PS5's High Price Becoming a Serious Headache for Publishers

Rodimusprime13

This is why developers should always be looking towards multi platform releases and should consider lowering prices rather than expecting console prices to drop. I haven't played the recent game but I remember playing Monster Hunter Icebourn and it was an always online game which wasn't something I wanted to play, since you will need a reasonable fast internet connection just to make the game playable. Most live service games are unnecessary and are a hassle to play even the single player part.

Re: PS5's High Price Becoming a Serious Headache for Publishers

Rodimusprime13

Developers could easily make an enhanced ps5 version of an existing ps4 game which is likely to make the money back quickly. The rising price of games is slowing the demand. New games sell for $90 on the Playstation and Xbox and the Switch 2 has games selling for $115. There is now more indie titles available which means that they are tons of cheaper gaming options. And Sony and Microsoft are guaranteed to release a new console in the near future.

Re: Sony's Troubled Live Service Game Fairgames Just Can't Catch a Break

Rodimusprime13

Most live service/multiplayer games need a large audience to be remotely successful. And given it very hard to know where you will find the audience it's better to lean towards multiple platforms to guarantee success. Godfall was a failure on the PlayStation but found success on the Xbox. Babylon Fall and Concord could have found success on the Xbox as well. MS is likely keeping bring more Gears of Wars games to the Playstation and possibly Halo, since the main aspect is multiplayer.

Re: 'Increasingly Selective Consumers' to Blame for Underperformance of Blades of Fire

Rodimusprime13

It seems the biggest issue for most games nowadays is to simply get noticed and convince people that it's actually worth the launch price to get the game. The number of games being released has exploded and will continue to increase since it's easier than ever to release games. Lots of vintage games like Pitfall and Pitfall 2 were written by just one person and it took perhaps a month or two. It's hard to justify paying $90+ at launch for a title that is just ok. Games need to be promoted where it's creating a demo version, offering a limited trial version or to launch on game pass, without attention lots of games don't get noticed. BG3 didn't get on game pass but all the buzz about the sexual content helped sell the game.

Re: Xbox U-Turn the First Step Towards Gamers Rejecting $80 Games

Rodimusprime13

In Canada Switch 2 games sell for between $100 - $115 and new PlayStation and Xbox games are $90 - $100. The other issue with the inflated launch prices is that the game will only drop in prices very slowly over time and often the best discounts that most games you might find is 50-60% off of the full launch price. And lots of games simply never drop the launch price at all. And there is always a small handful of games that never go on sale, ever.
