Re: Reaction: Sony's Licensing Strategy May Be the Best Route to Reviving Some of PlayStation's Lost Classics

Rodimusprime13

It would depend on what agreements that Sony and the third party have signed. If the agreement only allows the third party to only make a port, then that is all that will happen, but most Sony titles already have ps4/ps5 versions anyway. Then it depends on what platforms the third parties can release the games on, fewer platforms fewer potential revenue. Now if Sony outright sell the IP then the new owners can largely do what they want with the newly acquired IP, it unlikely Sony would do this. If Sony is only licensed IP then it's unlikely the new publisher will be motivated to create any new titles unless they have the right to in there contact.

Re: Shadow of Mordor's Nemesis System Created to Combat the Used Games Market

Rodimusprime13

I personally didn't like the Middle East games because they were brutally hard and the AI was way too smart. When I played these games I found that when every you got even close to one of the enemies it seems to automatically detect you and the base enemies were much stronger than your starting character. Once you died the game got more difficult. I am sure lots of people enjoyed it, but I was just not interested.

Re: PS5 Mega-Flop Concord Is Reaching Absurdly High Prices on eBay

@Barryburton97 Nope Canada. I previously had an eBay account and after they got rid of PayPal the service dropped off and the fees got jacked up. And despite looking all over the website there is no information on what fees they charge for selling video games, and unfortunately the market for video games was small on eBay in the first place.

Re: PS5 Mega-Flop Concord Is Reaching Absurdly High Prices on eBay

@Barryburton97 What I see on the ebay website is a general 13.4% for general category, 15.2 for movie and CD, and no information about fees for video games in particular. And the is just for individual sellers, if you want to get a ebay store you pay a monthly fee. Then on top of that ebay will charge you additional fees if you don't preform to there exceptions. Then they charge a fee on the final cost, and the shipping fees are not cheap which limits how much you can make. After eBay got rid of PayPal and started handing this themselves eBay is a hassle to deal with. The only thing worth selling on eBay is unique items that are hard to come by. For video games you'll often better off selling then to GameStop since you'll end up better off, even with just store credit.

Re: PS5 Mega-Flop Concord Is Reaching Absurdly High Prices on eBay

This is what ebay had become. Most sellers on ebay tend to get any obscure items then turn around and sell them at obscene prices because with the near 25% commission that ebay charges it's the only way to make money. And it cost very little to post a listing and you only pay when an item actually sells. And turning a profit on older video games is almost a Ponzi scheme, in my opinion.

Re: Iconic Game Maker Says Japanese Devs Should Stop Trying to Appeal to Westerners

Rodimusprime13

It's a bit of both. There is nothing wrong with making a game for a Japanese or Western audience but games need to be translated to English for their to be a Western audience. Even if the audio is not translated there should be English subtitles. Most Japanese game can easily be in only two languages like Japanese and English and the can find a worldwide audience. Other languages are beneficial but at the bare minimum they need English.

Re: Mailbox: Sony's Live Service Stupidity, Ghost of Yotei's Appeal, and the Magic of Open World RPGs

Rodimusprime13

My opinion is Sony shot themselves in foot with TLOU 2. Sure TLOU 2 was profitable but it cast a shadow over other Sony studio games. The problem with live service games is they are high risk, high reward. A good live service game can allow you to basically print money, were as a failed live service title means millions lost with no way to recover anything. Every console developer needs to produce games for their own consoles otherwise otherwise consoles often don't live up to sales expectations. And third party exclusives do help but only in the short term.

Re: GTA 6: Everything We Know So Far

Rodimusprime13

My guess is that they are pushing to get the game out in 2025, simply because they can't afford to spend more time developing the game. I personally could care less since I couldn't get into GTA 5 and I'm not a fan of live service games which I suspect GTA 6 will be.

Re: Video: Horizon Zero Dawn's PS5 Remaster Is a Massive Upgrade

Rodimusprime13

There are both improvements on the ps5 and items that look better on the ps4. The main improvements that I see on the ps5 are minor objects in the background and slightly more detail in the sand. I personally find I can see more detail in her hair on the ps4 over the ps5. The ruined bridge has more details on the ps4 over the ps5. Sure there is more details on the path on the ps5 over the ps4, but I find that the ps5 looks generic were as the original ps4 has a distinct aesthetic and feel.

Re: This PS Portal Commercial Is One of the Cutest Things You'll See Today

Rodimusprime13

@breakneck I don't see that as a real issue because most people do have a TV, and the only people who don't are people living in small apartments or condos. The only way the portal makes sense is when you might have multiple people sharing the ps5 and the TV that the ps5 is hooked up to is being used. And it implied from the ads that the portal needs to be close to the ps5 so it likely can be only used in the same household, could be totally wrong on this point.

Re: Sony Hits Back Hard at Bungie Lead's $200 Million Lawsuit

Rodimusprime13

Here is my guess. Sony knew they would have to pay a huge bonus to the developer so they hire a private investigator to dig up dirt on the said developer so they could fire him with cause and avoid the bonus that was due. Likely everything Sony did was legitimate, so they could make there case.

Re: Sony Japan Studio Closed Because AA Market 'Disappeared', Says Shu Yoshida

Rodimusprime13

I personally think Sony should try making games that are not the AAA games that are cheaper and faster to produce. The problem with most game development right now is that development studios seem to only want to make games that are in their mind are guaranteed to make at least 2-3 times the development costs or it not even worth making the game. And it seems that if a game cost less than $100 million, it just not worth making. Large developer sure we could make this game for about $1 million are guaranteed to make nearly $25-$40 million in sales but that just is not enough.

Re: Bad Handling of Demon's Souls PS3 Meant Sony Missed Out on Dark Souls Publishing

Rodimusprime13

I personally was never a fan of Demon Souls or the later Dark Souls games. I don't enjoy replaying the same sections over and over again just to progress a bit further next time. Most of the From Software games are a niche type game that has become very successful with Elden Ring. I did find any of the Dark Souls games particularly interesting, but the original ps3 Demon Souls game was interesting and unique but brutally hard. The later Dark Souls games, likely were more successful but were more generic than the original Demon Souls. I will admit I've only played the various games for a few hours or so, but that is my impression/experience of the games.
