@Gbarsotini Right? I can only imagine a scenario where this game is just a nonstop series of Adol crashing the ship on every island and then having to either fix it or find a new one before they can leave, to just do it again.
@LordOfTurnips it seems to only count as “online” if it required PS Plus, so ignoring F2P and subscription games. I spent 500+ hours in Final Fantasy XIV and one hour in Elder Scrolls Online so I only spent one hour “online”
@theheadofabroom It's even weirder than that, I played around with it, and basically the only way to back up the PS5 saves, is to do a full on System backup, and it doesn't restore the saves, it literally wipes the console with an initialize and restores it to whatever system settings it had at the time of the backup.
@belmont You can back up the "PS4" saves the same as you could before by just copying them to/from a USB stick in Saved Data settings. I think you can "Backup" your PS5 saves but it's a whole different convoluted process from System settings and you can't copy them easily or individually. It does a backup/restore of every thing.
I voted that I hate it, but it's absolutely a thing I've done to myself. I want to play all the games, but I'll never have the time, and stupidly I go and buy them anyway when they're on sale. I've put myself on a moratorium now. No new games for at least a year. Play what you have.
I've hit that saturation point where I either already own the game before they give it away or I wasn't going to play it anyway, even for "free." I don't have enough time as is. But I prepaid my Plus account from black friday deals years ago so I think it's still good for at least another year.
@GigaGaia I just tested mine, and I take back my hypothesis. I don't think it actually downloads any faster in Rest Mode. In my head, it always seemed like it did. But I also get about 350mbps down, and I think it's downloading at a little more than half that, jumping about 20MBs every second or so, since it doesn't actually give me a specific number.
@GigaGaia I think the PS4 throttles downloads while it's "Awake". If I start a download and then put it into "Standby" mode it downloads much faster. I'm guessing people are comparing awake vs awake speeds, maybe.
@vapidwolf I travel for work where I'm away from home for weeks at a time. I have to do something in my hotel room at night, so I pack my PS4 in my bag and play games on the hotel room TV. In order to connect to the hotel internet to play mutliplayer or watch Netflix, you have to open a web browser to click a Connect button before it will actually let you on the internet (admittedly the only time I ever use the browser). So yeah, in the theoretical situation that I had bothered to pre-order a PS5, I'd probably be taking it on my trip to Florida next week, or the trip to Alabama the week after that, or the trip to Virginia the week after that. But since I didn't, the PS4 will be coming along anyway, just as always.
Hahah, my PS4 still hasn't updated at 12, but my PS3 says 219. My friends list looks like it's a 50/50 split of who's updated and who isn't on PS4, but everybody is updated on PS3. Are they doing this manually by hand?
@BrintaPap I have a bunch of achievements where I beat the first boss or whatever, stopped playing, and have 1% trophies and would just prefer to pretend I didn't even start the game. I get it.
Have they actually given size specs on the thing yet? I'm not convinced it will fit in my cabinet horizontally. And if it barely does, I'm not sure it will fit without blocking the vents, now on the side, crammed against the side of the cabinet.
@thedevilsjester I think @jamberino93 was maybe talking about the noise more so than the heat. My Pro had a terrible thermal pad, so the heat wasn't transferring to the heat sink from the processor. The processor kept getting hotter, so the sensors meant the fan kept blowing faster and louder. Because the thermal dissipation wasn't correct, the heat stayed on the processor and the fan just sucked in cold air, blew across a cold heatsink, and spit cold air back out the back. It got bad enough that I started getting overheat warnings on screen telling me the unit would turn off to protect itself, which is when I finally decided to do something about it. I pulled off the dry, cracked pad, replaced with some actual paste, and now the fan never kicks into high because it's actually cooling correctly.
I finally bought one on release of FFVII based on my love of FFVI on my SNES. It was the first console I bought with my own money from my first job, although I actually think I had already built my first PC with my own money earlier that year which is why it took a FF release to get me back to consoles. The whole thing is a bit hazy now.
I'm not sure what I'll end up doing with this thing. I don't really have a place to put it vertically unless I put it behind my TV. Based on the chonkiness from the comparison shots, I'm not sure it will fit horizontally in my entertainment center either. The way it sits horizontally, it seems really unstable. I imagine it trying to spin whenever you put a disc in it or if you have to push the physical power button. I'm sure I'm wrong, but the pictures do not instill confidence. Also, per the question of whether it will come with the stand, I assume it will come with something as you'll need it no matter what, but is it the same stand for both orientations?
I say $550 and $600. The difference between the One S and One SAD is $50. And then I feel like $600 is about the highest you can reasonably go for a console. After that, you're getting into "might as well get a PC" territory
I don't necessarily miss E3. What I do miss though is a single event, where all the info gets funneled out. This year, with E3 not happening, it feels like everybody decided to throw their own thing at the exact same time and now every one of these events is just yelling over each other. Any important info is getting lost in the noise. I like small events. They just need to be spread out and coordinate more.
It doesn't have anything to do with the PS5. My desktop PC is old, but it has a SSD, and I play FFXIV on both. So now that I'm back to work traveling and using my PS4 Slim on the road, I definitely notice the difference.

Re: PS3 Gets a Surprise Firmware Update, Available to Download Now
Yay, now my Slim is stuck in an upgrade failed reboot loop. I can't seem to get it into Safe mode even. :/

Re: PS5 Doesn't Have a Web Browser
Hmmm... I know it's a truly niche issue, but I use it on the PS4 to login to hotel internet when I'm on work trips.
Maybe this means it'll just be an installable application instead of built-in.

Re: Interview: What Does a Professional Trophy Hunter Think of the New Levelling System?
@nessisonett Oh no, that's terrible! And hilarious... but mostly terrible, as a person from the southeastern US.
Re: PlayStation Trophies Update Is Going Live Right Now on PS4
It's funny because my PS3 Trophy list updated me to level 219, but my PS4 Trophy list hasn't changed and I'm still at 12.
