@species There is no money in making traditional games too.
Get ready for a generation full of Concord, because the end of physical is also a sign of them ending their big solo exclusives that barely make them a profit.
People on this website are really cute to think Sony is still gonna produce games that cost million of dollars and barely make a profit, when all they have to do is sell GTA, Fifa and some V-bucks to normies. That's why they are pushing the live service crap as much as possible, and will continue to do so no matter what, they want a bigger cut. That's also why they are ditching physical games : they do not make any sense with this new strategy. Solo games are dead.
Nintendo proved time and time again that not everything needs to be a 300 million dollars project. You should have smaller projects : it's healthy for the industry, it's healthy for the creators because it allows them to take risks...
I don't see why we should celebrate them ditching PS4. In this economy, video game consoles are more expansive as ever, and frankly, playing a sport game on a PS4 or a PS5 makes barely a difference, as those games are so similar year to year.
The decision to kill off physical was not made because "ohhhhhh our consumers prefer it this way" (what a bunch of hypocritical as*******). It's because their profit could be higher as a result.
Let's just hope this company fails miserably with its PS6, and good riddance.
If Sony fails as a console manufacturer (which would be great news for us, consumers), they will just end up porting everything to PC. Even though, there wont be much to port of course, as they are still actively trying to make the next Concord.
Let's hope this company fails miserably with the PS6.
@KawakiisaFraud The company that released games in the likes of Bloodborne is not there anymore. They are incapable of releasing such games nowadays. Too busy chasing the live service trend and using their studios in the worst way possible.
I have no idea what Playstation brings to the table anymore
One exclusive game a year of variable quality ?
Paid online and terrible shop ?
Higher price on average for games ?
Being able to not play your games anymore once Sony decide they expired ?
The normies will sure continue to play this. That's why GTA VI wil sell huge numbers on PS5, despite going full digital. But the Sony of old is long gone now. What remains is a corpse too busy creating the next Concord.
I hope Nintendo will continue to publish all of its games on physical media. If not, that will definitely change the way I play. I'm not sure I will continue to play videogames, except for a few exceptions. Collecting those games is part of the charm. It's been there since the first video game console.

Re: 'Discs Don't Really Make Sense': GTA 6 Boss Says 'Sony Understands That' as It Kills Physical Games
What makes sense is to market your game on Netflix folks. Because that's what players REALLY want deep down, to pay to watch ads !
Re: GTA 6 PS5 Gameplay Coming This Month, Here's When to See It First on Netflix

Re: 'We Are Not Seeing Any Impact on Our Business': Sony Says Physical Disc Backlash Is Having Zero Effect
Great for them. Won't be buying anything from them anymore, I guess they don't need my money.
Not that there was a lot to love in this generation, outside of Astrobot and Rift apart.

Disastrous tastes.

Underrated is a choice of word considering the lack of support by Sony.

Good thing for physical. Still looks bad as a game (what is this writing for example)
Re: 'I'm Not Convinced There's a Viable Way Forward': DOOM Dev Relegated to 'Support Studio' Size
Xbox should just stop videogames as a whole. Like Sony, their stupidity is too much for this industry.

Rightfully deserved. Sony should not be left in peace.

That's really reassuring that in a all-digital future, Sony does not even know how to proprely code time tracker for games.

At this point people, just get a damn PC.

Woaaaaaaah Sony, calm down cow boy, I just read the previous news where you said you were shutting down physical media
