Re: Poll: Did You Buy a PS1 at Launch?

I bought one about a bit after launch. I was a pretty big RPG player at the time and got the first Persona and Wild Arms, which were both pretty disappointing so I was questioning my life choices. But then FFVII came out and changed the game forever.

Re: Rumour: Unforgettable RPG Dragon Quest 7 Tipped for PS5 Release

@rjejr Maybe you were stuck in a Squaresoft echo chamber or something dude. 🤷‍♀️ DQ7 IS one of the best JRPGs on the PS1, you should really play it. Sure it's an outlier considering its much slower, almost meditative pace compared to the rest of the series, but it's still DQ and still rips.

Frankly, I'd rank it higher than FF8, at least and definitely higher than Legend of Dragoon. Old ones know they had to wait after 4 was released on NES, we didn't get 5 OR 6 in NA. So when 7 dropped it was a huge deal.

Re: Here Are 10 Great PS5 Horror Games to Play This Halloween

NonbinaryStarr

This year for the annual spooky season I ended up playing Silent Hill 2 Remake, Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare, The Bridge Curse, The Chant, Siren, The Devil in Me, Dreadout 2, Indika (not spooky), Bloodstained Classic II DLC, and the original PS1 Medievil. Turned out to be a fun potpourri ranging from incredibly scary and amazing (SH2) to the laughably bad (Devil in Me) so it's been a damn good season. I hope to eventually get around to Darkwood, Dementium, and the RetroRealms games.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Alan Wake 2?

Remedy creates another 10/10 banger. They truly feel like an authentic voice and have created something that feels like the future of gaming. I had absolutely no issues with visual bugs - little nitpicking things here and there but absolutely nothing diminished what is easily my favorite game of the year.

Everyone complaining about digital only just sound like PC gamers circa 2004. Now Steam is a crown jewel and people boycott Epic if they go against their sweet baby. Knocking a game down for that just sounds disingenuous because it goes against your habits.

Re: PS5 Versions for Trails of Cold Steel 3 and 4 Coming 16th February

This is primarily for people like me who have recently got into the series but haven't had them sitting in their backlog for years. Better to have these available than not. But Iagree, NIS has a terrible track record of abusing their niche fanbase with forcing them to pay full price rather than make it crossbuy. The fact is, they've already grown reliant on these fans gobbling them up so there's no need to change business tactics now.

Thanks, capitalism!

Re: Talking Point: We Need to Discuss This Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Remaster

NonbinaryStarr

Didn't we have an entire article on the importance of accessibility? Not only will remasters like this and TLOU give the devs some experience with developing these features for the PS5, but it'll give them a chance to expand their audience. It's not as easy as just patching it into an already existing game. If it allows more people to play an already stellar game, then so be it.

This already reeks of everyone calling out the TLOU remake as a cash grab and when it's finally getting out the door everyone switches to "yeah I'm gonna pick this up, can't wait."

Also everyone would go wild over a BOTW remaster for the Switch 2 if it was running at 60 fps, let's not be silly.

Re: Soul Hackers 2 (PS5) - SMT on a Budget

Ouch, looking at the trailers I was really hoping for more flavor to the dungeons, but apparently not so. Another one to pick up on sale. I gotta say it's weird whenever people complain about comparing other SMT spin-offs with Persona, but c'mon. It's hard to go back to skirt steak when you've had a prime, grass fed ribeye.

Re: Soapbox: I'm Sorry, But Your Cute Cat Game Isn't That Great

NonbinaryStarr

This is so cynical. The game is very well structured around the fact that you are a cat. The way you interact with the environment, with the characters, and how everything interacts with you.

The writer asks "would any of this be anywhere near as engaging if you were playing as a human?" Of course it wouldn't be. But that's not inherent to the game itself. You're taking away the core conceit of the game.

It's like saying Silent Hill isn't that great because if you take away the atmosphere, it's just a janky mess. Metal Gear isn't that great because if you take away the characters and themes, it's just a boring stealth game. Pokemon isn't that great because if the creatures were just regular animals, it'd just be an okay RPG.

I'm sorry, but your take just isn't that great.
