Not too shocking, considering the reception to having a, god forbid, black character in Japan.
Not to mention the heat they got from Far Cry 5 being announced to take place in America despite it ultimately landing as completely toothless. Would like to see an Assassin’s Creed be a little more meaningful.
That's pretty neat, but that GUTS game is absolutely atrocious. I kinda applaud Limited Run for still putting out the dregs of gaming history. Will I be giving them $130 for it? No. No I will not.
I bought one about a bit after launch. I was a pretty big RPG player at the time and got the first Persona and Wild Arms, which were both pretty disappointing so I was questioning my life choices. But then FFVII came out and changed the game forever.
@rjejr I dunno what to tell you dude but policing it just because you personally hadn't been in on the zeitgeist is kinda wild 🤷♀️ Folks were singing its praises until DQ8 ate its lunch. Considering the average quality of JRPGs on the PS1, I'd say "without question" is a pretty fair assessment.
@rjejr Maybe you were stuck in a Squaresoft echo chamber or something dude. 🤷♀️ DQ7 IS one of the best JRPGs on the PS1, you should really play it. Sure it's an outlier considering its much slower, almost meditative pace compared to the rest of the series, but it's still DQ and still rips.
Frankly, I'd rank it higher than FF8, at least and definitely higher than Legend of Dragoon. Old ones know they had to wait after 4 was released on NES, we didn't get 5 OR 6 in NA. So when 7 dropped it was a huge deal.
@heavyartillery56 My dude sounds so desperate to hold onto the rhetoric that it's actually a bomb when it just reads as typical hate. Too deep in whatever weird algorithm you've been fed dude.
No one should be lauded for helping to finance the surge of trash games on the PSN store that offer five minute platinums. If he truly is quitting, hopefully he can get his dopamine fix somewhere that isn't so creatively bankrupt.
This year for the annual spooky season I ended up playing Silent Hill 2 Remake, Alone in the Dark: A New Nightmare, The Bridge Curse, The Chant, Siren, The Devil in Me, Dreadout 2, Indika (not spooky), Bloodstained Classic II DLC, and the original PS1 Medievil. Turned out to be a fun potpourri ranging from incredibly scary and amazing (SH2) to the laughably bad (Devil in Me) so it's been a damn good season. I hope to eventually get around to Darkwood, Dementium, and the RetroRealms games.
Where were all these comments when Killzone Shadowfall dropped with a dull, lifeless thud at PS4 launch? In 10 years people gonna be like "aw man Concord was so amazing they should bring it back and stop making these crap games"
The Order was so damn good but the gaming community ***** all over it in 2015. It came out at a time where gamers couldn't fathom paying full price for a decent game they could beat in five hours even though we've been doing it for decades. Hope those talented folks find work soon.
Remedy creates another 10/10 banger. They truly feel like an authentic voice and have created something that feels like the future of gaming. I had absolutely no issues with visual bugs - little nitpicking things here and there but absolutely nothing diminished what is easily my favorite game of the year.
Everyone complaining about digital only just sound like PC gamers circa 2004. Now Steam is a crown jewel and people boycott Epic if they go against their sweet baby. Knocking a game down for that just sounds disingenuous because it goes against your habits.
This is primarily for people like me who have recently got into the series but haven't had them sitting in their backlog for years. Better to have these available than not. But Iagree, NIS has a terrible track record of abusing their niche fanbase with forcing them to pay full price rather than make it crossbuy. The fact is, they've already grown reliant on these fans gobbling them up so there's no need to change business tactics now.
I'm not buying it at 50 bucks. But I'll buy it eventually to have a reliable way to play it again. All due respect to the PS3 but that console runs so bad. And let's be real, this is going to sell millions. Capitalism.
The Order 1886 still holds up today. While short, it's still a fun story about the abuse of power, but with werewolves. I'm assuming the dev couldn't secure funding to continue with Playstation and went with Meta instead. Shame, I hope they continue making cool stuff.
Didn't we have an entire article on the importance of accessibility? Not only will remasters like this and TLOU give the devs some experience with developing these features for the PS5, but it'll give them a chance to expand their audience. It's not as easy as just patching it into an already existing game. If it allows more people to play an already stellar game, then so be it.
This already reeks of everyone calling out the TLOU remake as a cash grab and when it's finally getting out the door everyone switches to "yeah I'm gonna pick this up, can't wait."
Also everyone would go wild over a BOTW remaster for the Switch 2 if it was running at 60 fps, let's not be silly.
Trophy noise good. Very solid list. I also recommend the latest Resident Evil games (2,3,7,8) and the BioShock series for the trophy-curious. Otherwise, just play whatever clicks with you.
Ouch, looking at the trailers I was really hoping for more flavor to the dungeons, but apparently not so. Another one to pick up on sale. I gotta say it's weird whenever people complain about comparing other SMT spin-offs with Persona, but c'mon. It's hard to go back to skirt steak when you've had a prime, grass fed ribeye.
This is so cynical. The game is very well structured around the fact that you are a cat. The way you interact with the environment, with the characters, and how everything interacts with you.
The writer asks "would any of this be anywhere near as engaging if you were playing as a human?" Of course it wouldn't be. But that's not inherent to the game itself. You're taking away the core conceit of the game.
It's like saying Silent Hill isn't that great because if you take away the atmosphere, it's just a janky mess. Metal Gear isn't that great because if you take away the characters and themes, it's just a boring stealth game. Pokemon isn't that great because if the creatures were just regular animals, it'd just be an okay RPG.

Yes, more Sam & Max content. I would play the hell out of a Hit The Road remaster too, something akin to Day of the Tentacle and Full Throttle.
