Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag Remake

Well, there it is, and it's official: Ubisoft has just confirmed that Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag Resynced is real as part of an update from the franchise's new boss.

In a surprisingly informative blog post, newly assigned head of content Jean Guesdon spills the beans.

"Speculation around Assassin's Creed is not new, but it's worth repeating: "Nothing is true. Everything is permitted." Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon," he writes.

This project's obviously been rumoured for what feels like an eternity, but outside of some vague social media winks, Ubisoft has never fully confirmed its existence. Honestly, it's just nice to have it out in the open.

Still, it feels like we're quite some time away from the big announcement. Recent reports have suggested that the Black Flag revival was pushed back by up to a year, as part of the company's restructuring.

So what's coming in the meantime? Well, Guesdon also offers an update on Assassin's Creed Hexe — the game that was announced alongside Assassin's Creed Shadows a few years ago.

He explains: "While we know we haven’t shared much about this one yet, it’s being built with great care by our veteran team here at Ubisoft Montreal. Expect a unique, darker, narrative-driven Assassin’s Creed experience, set during a pivotal moment in history."

"We are taking the time to deliver on its ambitious vision, which means we’ll be quiet for a little longer, but we love seeing all the enthusiasm happening on our channels and can’t wait to unveil more when the time is right."

The franchise boss even mentions Invictus — the supposed PvP Assassin's Creed game.

"We understand there's a lot of curiosity around this project: yes, it's a new approach to multiplayer in the franchise, but it isn't quite what the rumours have suggested," Guesdon reveals.

"Beyond [Resynced, Hexe, and Invictus], we have several other projects currently in the works, all at different stages of development, including Assassin's Creed Jade. We're also looking into bringing co‑op back to Assassin's Creed --- a detail we know didn't go unnoticed," he concludes.

And there you have it — an admittedly much more transparent look at the future of Assassin's Creed than we were expecting.
