I've been convinced to get this very soon. It'll be the first release of this year that I play. Also the first full-priced game I've purchased since BG3.
I'm more sold on this game than I was before, but I'll probably wait to see a full list of critic reviews before committing. I'm also anticipating review bombing, which I'll naturally ignore. As should everyone, really.
I'd quite like to try Shadows. Just not sure if I'm bold enough to pre-order it. I'll check the reviews. I did enjoy Valhalla a fair bit, especially visiting familiar locales and (almost) my home.
Metro is a harsh sci-fi horror take on a relatively believable subject matter. It's appropriate that they would explore further themes even more relevant and close to home in the sequel.
It's unlikely but a hypothetical Fable 2 remake coming to the PS5 would spell the end for the blue vs. green console war. This might be the start of the end for MS in terms of hardware.
It's wishful thinking to believe that high-budget titles will run at 60FPS on current generation consoles that are roughly equivalent to low-mid-range PCs. Every generation, we go through the same thing, this discourse. Consoles are for 30FPS gaming. They're budget options compared to PC counterparts.
I'm looking forward to it actually. Ubisoft is usually about as beige as it gets but they can pull off unsung heroes (The Crew, Watch_Dogs, Rocksmith, Valhalla) when they want to. This could be one of those cases, here's hoping.
I'm curious to see what they pull off with this one. Valhalla was great but it was a bit bloated and felt stagnant in places. If they weave in the trademark history and culture titbits and really lean into the setting, it could be strong.
But I'll reserve judgement. This is Ubisoft we're talking about.
In retrospect, £100 would be a good price point for Elden Ring and maybe BG3. That's a personal thing and I wouldn't expect anyone else to agree.
Generally, however, I wouldn't pay £100 for any game. Unless it's a special edition (collector's and such) with physical components. £70 is a reach. Some of my favourite games were priced lower than the old industry standard of £50 (SOMA, Meatboy, Penumbra, Gmod, TF2, Portal, etc.) and so anything excessive would go ignored by me until it drops in a sale. I'd favour smaller indie and AA titles.
Mass Effect as part of the legendary edition. I'm enjoying it a lot more than I thought I would. It's content-rich without feeling bloated and will probably only take around 30 - 35 hours, refreshingly short for an RPG.
Diablo IV with my partner. She doesn't play games much but seems to just enjoy making her sorceress look as suggestive as possible whilst blasting flaming beams at demons. It's the second time we've beaten the main story and we're just checking off the outstanding dungeons.
@Porco I'm not sold on the game right now, so I'd be one of those you mentioned. DS seemed like an idea that could work exceptionally well as a Netflix or Disney series, but I just don't think it worked at all as a game. I'm not expecting a radical change, either, so I think I'll be skipping it outright.
But I guess it remains to be seen. It could be lightning in a bottle, like SH2.
It's a shame that Veilguard didn't make top 10. It has some weird design choices, like certain enemies and some of the art direction, but it's a seriously impressive game in places. It's probably the most fluid that Dragon Age has ever felt, and even as an RPG-Lite, it has some fantastic character building choices and mechanics.
I can't disagree much with the list all in all, though. Astrobot especially.
Besides the obvious (Elden Ring 2), I want to see an Echo Night revival. I can't say I've played the games yet, but I think a return to the franchise would be good incentive to give it a go.
It's a good move, all in all. Twitter is dying and Bluesky is on the rise. Maybe insulting advertisers and propogating extremist rhetoric wasn't such a fantastic play?
I've wanted to be optimistic about this for some time. It looks like it's about as good as I expected it to be, which is great. My concern is performance and other technical issues. If it all runs smoothly, I'm looking forward to it.
TF2 is always and forever going to be the king of multiplayer class-based FPS as far as I'm concerned. Everything that's followed since has just been a low energy clone.
I'm looking forward to it. I'm not expecting it to be anything like Origins, 2 (but who would want that anyway?) or Inquisition, but from what I've seen, it could be solid.
If it's just a step or two ahead of Andromeda, and absolutely nothing like Anthem, then I'm happy with that. Just want to see Tevinter and Minrathous. Anything like the wilds of the Storm Coast would be a huge plus.
It makes sense if the character is meant to be a hero, rather than, say, the "hero" of Fable (which really just indicates anyone with excessive power in that world).
It doesn't really change my opinion on the game any.
There are a couple I've wanted to try but nothing that's really sold me as of yet. Just been replaying Mad Max, lamenting the fact that we'll probably never get a sequel.
This might be the worst month I'm personally aware of. Among Us is already cheap, Borderlands 3 is mediocre (and old), and NHL is...well, it's a sports game.
I always viewed Days Gone as Mad Max with all of the personality sucked out. I played for maybe two or three hours but had to bow out not long after. There are interesting systems in place, but when it's all brought together, it's just a painfully average open world zombie survival.
Probably the biggest concern surrounding GTAVI was how much the devs (or publisher) planned to lean into mtx. Possibly to the detriment of single player. It looks like concerns have been well-placed.
I'm giving it a few months following release before buying anyway. This game has me worried that the quality of GTA as a franchise might be declining.
It's usually a pretty big red flag when someone builds their identity around being as provocative and offensive as possible. Stories like these are an inevitability.
I can't get started on Shadow of the Erdtree yet, as badly as I want to.
I've been playing Demon's Souls and enjoying it a lot. I sense that I'll probably clock up at least 30 hours in that game. It's not as hard as I thought it would be but the boss runs are unforgiving, the run up to the Tower Knight in particular.
A lot like Dark Souls fundamentally, but the intricacies make it seem like an entirely different game altogether once you really get into it.
I would say it was always doomed to failure (or mediocrity, which I guess is a couple of steps ahead of failure).
The way I see it, VR is expensive hardware. Costly peripherals are usually more closely associated with PC gaming. So I think that VR would have found its place within the PC community, but not so much the console community.
Nascent and innovative ideas are usually better realised within a community that not only has enough money to spend on the things, but also has a far broader suite of tools (FOSS, SDKs, IDEs, CLIs, and so on) to play around with. PSVR is good for playing games. PCVR is good for games, as well as design, simulation, modeling, and more.
If VR is going to be an unequivocal success, it needs to find its footing on PC first. I think Sony maybe jumped in a little too early, or maybe console VR is just generally a non starter.
AI is good for STEM fields (medicine, astronomy, engineering, computer science, etc.), where those fields can employ technologies that academics, doctors, nurses, and so on, can use to enhance their work.
I don't think it's so good for artistic fields, never mind the ethical implications. When it comes to creativity, everything is better done by a human.
Here, they seem to be talking about management rather than the creative process itself. I don't know how to feel about that, personally.

Re: Even Silent Hill F's PS5 Steelbook Is Horrible to Look At
Besides the fact that this is a generally appropriate design, it's also very reminiscent of the old cover designs for the original trilogy of games.
I just hope it's not riddled with needless clumsy metaphors. I think we can do with less of those these days.
Re: Silent Hill F's Content Warning Demands a Strong Stomach
People are complaining about the trigger warnings, presumably those who haven't been fans from the start.
Silent Hill (PS1) also had a warning like this.
Re: Battlefield Fans Stand at Attention as EA Teases Community Testing Program
I recall Bad Company 2 being tantalising for the sole reason that there wasn't really anything else like it on console, from what I recall.
Large maps with multiple families of vehicles, and a robust engine for tearing down buildings. All of that, at the time, was novel and exciting.
But "real-life explosion from Gaza" shows that they're about as tasteless as they always have been. I don't have any faith in this return.

Re: Halo PS5 Rumours Intensify in Aftermath of Forza Horizon 5 Reveal

Re: $100 for GTA 6 Is 'A Bridge Too Far' Even for Rockstar, Says Analyst
That much seemed obvious. That's probably roughly a quarter of what consoles will cost in two to three years' time.

Veilguard. I've been returning to Diablo IV coop as well so I'll be alternating between the two.

@Tchunga There are at least four towns and a city in Elden Ring.
