Re: Round Up: DriveClub PS4 Reviews Target Pole Position

Munkyknuts

Ouch...some of the reviews are harsh. Whether the Forza killer tag line was seriously intended it exists and leaves this open to criticism. I won't even be trying the free version but I hoped for Drive club to turn out well for the greater good of the console...even if a game isn't my thing I'd hope it does well and helps the Playstation continue to be successful.

Re: Out This Week: DriveClub, Alien Isolation, Spelunky PS4, Pix the Cat

Munkyknuts

@LDXD I love the Batman games...I loved AC2, the other Assassins Creed games just didn't do it for me (black flag was ok mainly as I enjoyed the sea battles) I can see where Shadow of Mordor got it's different mechanics and taking the combat fluidity from the Arkham games is just fine with me. People may complain SoM is stapled together from parts of other games but that's fine if the end product is greater than the sum of its parts....and the nemesis system just seems awesome.

Re: Out This Week: DriveClub, Alien Isolation, Spelunky PS4, Pix the Cat

Munkyknuts

@LDXD I wouldn't be giving shadow of Mordor a shot if it hadn't had such positive gamer feedback on here and on other sites. I usually wait a little while to get games....Destiny was an unfortunate anomaly in my getting it day one. I love Tolkien and loved the LOTR films (not a fan of the Hobbit films) so I'm sure my time with Shadow of Mordor will be a jolly one. It would be madness if they didn't follow it up with further games in the series...there are a lot of areas of Middle Earth history and lore that haven't been covered much that are perfect to provide game material.

Re: Out This Week: DriveClub, Alien Isolation, Spelunky PS4, Pix the Cat

Munkyknuts

There actually isn't anything in the list I can say I've been looking forward to. However there are titles I didn't know much about that I'm intrigued by and I do like the pleasant surprises that can arise from PS+ and from impulse buying smaller titles from the store. I love the Alien films...love that isolation takes its cue from Alien rather than Aliens but something about the game doesn't click with me...maybe I'll try it later on. I'm off to trade in Destiny for Shadow of Modor...very excited to try it. I hope Drive club lives up to expectations for those that like racing games.

Re: Ubisoft Insists That Assassin's Creed Unity Hasn't Been Scaled Back on PS4

Munkyknuts

@Crimson_Ridley Wow...didn't know it had already been delayed. Well...that makes the state of the game even less impressive. I have to say the only Assassins Creed game I truly loved was AC2...Brotherhood, Revelations, and AC3 just didn't really do it for me. Black flag was better, but it felt like it wasn't performing or looking as good as it could be. Watchdogs was the same and Now AC: unity. In a small plus for Ubisoft, I love Valiant Hearts.

Re: Ubisoft Locks Assassin's Creed Unity's PS4 Resolution to Avoid Debates

Munkyknuts

It's established that the PS4 out performs the Xbox 1...that's just how it is. It's not a massive difference In power but it's there and is what it is. As such why put a game out at less that it can achieve? It's like holding the high achievers in a class back so the slower kids don't feel put out. I have a machine that can give me crisp sharp beautiful graphics....that's what I want. Watch dogs was a bit of a murky mess compared to what it was meant to be.... And it was a real shame. If Xbox doesn't always want to be getting referred to as the inferior version of a 3rd party game having a hand in holding the PS4 version back is a very petty way of doing it.

Re: Review: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PlayStation 4)

Munkyknuts

@DrJoeystein The review was good enough for me to decide to put in Destiny on a part exchange for Shadow of Mordor...then I can move onto a more positive gaming experience and move away from arguing about Destiny's good and bad points on the Internet and forget it ever existed. This looks like a great game and gamers who already have it seem to all agree as well, I'm looking forward to trying it out

Re: Review: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PlayStation 4)

Munkyknuts

@Bad-MuthaAdebis comparisons of how the world is used and seen, ability to explore and experience the world, how the story is told, the amount of content given and ability to interact with characters in its world are all apt...it's not about genre of game it's about game making. And I'd say some FPS games did a better job than Destiny did. Shadow of Mordor is a very very different game but there are still basic elements games all have in common and so to an extent are comparable.

Re: Review: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PlayStation 4)

Munkyknuts

@Bad-MuthaAdebis Because Destiny offers repetition of the same things over and over and over again. Even the story sends you through the same areas repeatedly. The weekly strikes and daily missions just give you the same content over and over with modifiers attached. Even the enemies always just spawn from the same exact points. Destiny is compared because it wasn't what it was meant to be or could have been...it has rubbish mission design and no immersion into its world or all the lore that was written for it....while destiny might be lovely to look at and have amazing gunplay its positively amateurish in other respects. So yes it's going to be compared to other games that do things better than it. However Destiny is old news now...when I can get another game I'll never mention Destiny again.

Re: Review: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PlayStation 4)

Munkyknuts

@SmokinAce41 I love open worlds...favourite kind of gaming experience. I hate games that keep you confined to a set path and even then give you little to do. The likes of Skyrim, fallout 3, even Farcry 3, Red or dead redemption...and Kingdom of Amalur gave me what I crave...I don't mind Shadow or Mordor having a possibly undersized map as long as it feels alive and has things to do. Destiny had beautiful things in it....dragonflies hovering over a sun dappled pond at the Cosmodrome? Gorgeous....the earth slowly turning by the frozen wreckage of the International Space Station? Lovely....seeing those same wonders over and over and over (and over) again in the endless repetitive cycle of patrols....not lovely. In SkyRim if I wondered what was over a hill or behind a rock I could go and find out...in destiny sometime you got the 'turn back!' Timer if you jumped up onto the wrong rock formation let alone try and venture of the path. I think I need shadow of Mordor in my life

Re: Review: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PlayStation 4)

Munkyknuts

@ZeD Oh I don't think that statement would be so unpopular....even die hard Destiny fans can't do much to argue its weaknesses, and it's down to personal taste and opinion, you're allowed to have yours. I dearly wish I'd waited to get this rather than diving on Destiny on day one. I'm pleased Shadow of Mordor seems to be doing well...if it just gives you variety and things to do that's enough for it to be more fulfilling to play than Destiny...of course they are vastly different games, but no game should use cheap tricks to hide its lack of content. I'm looking forward to getting into SOM's nemesis system it sounds pretty cool.

Re: Review: Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (PlayStation 4)

Munkyknuts

Great review and a game I definitely have to try sometime...if nothing else it would get me from wandering forlornly around the Cosmodrome in Destiny dreaming of all the things it could of been and lamenting the hollow thing it is. I've loved The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings since I was a child and this game, while taking some liberties with plot and such, seems to treat the material with respect and finds things to do in its world.

Re: Review: Slender: The Arrival (PlayStation 3)

Munkyknuts

I'll stick to Slender Rising on my iPhone/iPad...no excuse for a rubbish conversion onto a last gen console of a game so basic. It's not like it's flashing the visual goodies. The PS3 has been around long enough that they shouldn't end up with shonky controls.

Re: Weirdness: This Is How Activision Should Have Marketed Destiny

Munkyknuts

@Boerewors There is some evidence that the story was more substantial at some stage, and what left in feels disjointed like scenes from a bigger story we are missing. There is a lot of detail, and care and work hidden away in this game...there are glimpses of it in the collectible grimoire info cards...it's a shame almost none of it is in the game, and what little is in is mangled by terrible scripting. I believe Destiny was a much deeper game at some stage, and that what we got isn't what was intended by the creatives behind in.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 41

Munkyknuts

@crazykcarter I love the smaller indie titles. For me it's where the magic in gaming happens...the risks and the innovation. So far Valiant Hearts is right there on my list of favourites with titles like Thomas was Alone, Braid and Journey. I've not got to needing door codes yet so I'll look forward to that lol

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 41

Munkyknuts

I'm trying to get the Invective exotic shotgun via an exotic bounty...I need a kill/death spread of 25 in the Crucible and I suck at it so I'll be hitting destiny a bit. I'll also be playing Valiant Hearts as too much Destiny puts me in need of playing a game that knows how to tell a story.

Re: PlayStation Home May Live on the PlayStation 4 Yet

Munkyknuts

@Ginkgo I think there is room for a social hub like Playstation home on the PS4. I liked elements of Home as well and I agree it was slow. With a wider world with more to do and smoother loading times it could get quite a dedicated community. It would also help Sonys financial situation if it still had the micro transactions that Home utilises...for those that want to pay for a digital diesel tee shirt.

Re: Sony: The Last Guardian Development Couldn't Be Better

Munkyknuts

The last guardian is one of the most protracted and torturous developments I can recall, not just in gaming but all entertainment media. I'm still interested to see what eventually ends up appearing and if it sells enough to cover the looooong production time for it. I also still harbour some excitement for it releasing and seeing if it has the same charm and magic of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, or it ends up a sad and broken thing....the title screen flashing up and the beast seen in game images dragging itself painfully into view...looking me in eyes eyes as it begs to be put out of its misery like some twisted creepy pasta tale.

Re: Reaction: EGX London Hammers Another Nail in PS Vita's Coffin

Munkyknuts

I've never been into handheld gaming, not even back in the day of the 1st game boys. If I'm out the house I have stuff to do other than game and if I'm in the house I have the PS3 and PS4. It's sad the vita is dying out tho as it seems like a good portable device for those that like such things.

Re: Destiny's 1.0.2 Patch Goes Live, Improves Loot and Dishes out More Rewards for Strikes

Munkyknuts

@xMEADx I'm sure there are various things we agree on about Destiny, the loot system just ended up being a point of heated argument amongst gamers, us included. At this point I can't progress any further without getting the gear from raids that has a higher light rating so I'll have to try finding raid buddies from Bungie as you suggested. I have people I've met during doing the strike playlists on my friends list, but even then it's really difficult to co-ordinate everyone being available at the same time.

Re: Destiny's 1.0.2 Patch Goes Live, Improves Loot and Dishes out More Rewards for Strikes

Munkyknuts

@wittypixel It seems some who rabidly defend Destiny do like the endless repetition...but a mind that can enjoy doing the same things on a loop is a mystery to me. I'm still lightly playing Destiny mainly for the crucible now and because I got a 2nd exotic weapon bounty yesterday. I've never been on a raid yet as I've not got 5 friends who have time to play the Vault of Glass. Seems mad that a huge chunk of game play that people seem to agree is best part of Destiny is bereft of matchmaking options.

Re: Sigh! Even Sony Can't Resist Ruffling Fanboy Feathers

Munkyknuts

As the the article mentions when a similar thing was done with Killzone Vs Halo Sony's franchise took a hard fall. Fanning the fanboy rubbish doesn't help...it's immature playground antics and it got tired for me back when it was about the NES vs the Sega master system.

Re: Destiny's 1.0.2 Patch Goes Live, Improves Loot and Dishes out More Rewards for Strikes

Munkyknuts

@AD-80 While the story was left open ended there is still clearly a lot missing and there is pretty compelling evidence that there was more story in the game at an earlier stage. There are hooks in the narrative of Destiny that are clearly setting up arcs for later in the series but that still doesn't excuse how terrible the writing in the game is, how lacking in interaction it is or how little of the rich mythology of the game can only be glimpsed via the grimoire cards...there are some beautifully thought out and designed ideas in them, if even a quarter of that had made it into the game it would have been a richer a fuller experience.

Re: Destiny's 1.0.2 Patch Goes Live, Improves Loot and Dishes out More Rewards for Strikes

Munkyknuts

I'm mostly over Destiny now anyway...it's unlikely I'll progress past level 27. I spent ages working towards getting Bad Juju via the Tolands Legacy exotic bounty and the rifle is awful to me, mainly because the flickering green flames/flashes coming from the gun hurt my eyes...especially in darker rooms. All that's keeping me casually pottering along in the game is the Crucible and having gotten a 2nd exotic bounty (a dubious task) but I'll end up leaving the game altogether before much longer.

Re: Feature: What Are October 2014's Free PlayStation Plus Games?

Munkyknuts

That's a solid line up of games. I played Arkham Asylum to death when it 1st came out so I don't need it again but the quality of the PS3 offerings is better (in my opinion) than its been recently. It's nice the there are some RPGs in the mix, it's a while since I've played any...I still have Ni No Kuni waiting to be played too.
I have no interest in Drive Club at all but hopefully it will live up to the expectations that are heaped upon it.

Re: Store Update: 1st October 2014 (Europe)

Munkyknuts

I give myself a very strict gaming budget and don't often spend on major game releases right away. When I do go for a game I try to go for lots of content so I can live in that games world for longer. I misjudged how much ongoing gaming Destiny would give me and I should have waited for Shadow of Mordor instead, which seems to have a deeper ongoing narrative...I'll have to wait to get it and hit my PS+ Back catalogue until then.

Re: Fight the Urge to Fritter Your Finances in European PSN Sale

Munkyknuts

There are some tempting things in that list for the PS3 but I'll have to resist them...I can't buy more when I already have games waiting to be played. The Deus Ex: Directors cut...which Deux Ex is it? The godlike original from way back in the day, or the quite sucky in comparison human revolution?

Re: Review: Watch Dogs: Bad Blood (PlayStation 4)

Munkyknuts

@Demi_God The rare times I've bought DLC I never got around to playing it. I got extra content for Mass Effect 3, skyrim and Dishonoured but I just didn't have the drive to get back into the games. I'd have to be very certain of my enduring love of a game to invest in a season pass.

Re: Review: Watch Dogs: Bad Blood (PlayStation 4)

Munkyknuts

I really liked Watchdogs. Seeing the comparison pictures of how it was meant to be and how it turned out is saddening, seeing what it could have been. Aiden never really felt all that likeable but he got better as The game went on. Despite enjoying the main game I doubt I'll get the DLC. When I finish with a game I move onto something else so by the time DLC hits I'm invested in another game. As to the story of Watchdogs and the quality of characters, I've experienced much worse (Destiny)
