The day that all of you Guardians have been waiting for has finally arrived, as Destiny's highly anticipated 1.0.2 update is now live, and we know what most of you must be thinking as you read this: it's about bloody time.
As promised, the patch makes changes to the Cryptarch, who had a horrible habit of giving you gear that didn't live up to its supposed rarity. This is no longer the case, as engrams will now decrypt into items of the same colour coded rank or better. On top of that, rewards for completing daily heroic missions, weekly heroic Strikes, and Strikes from the level 24 Vanguard playlist have been tweaked so that you're much more likely to get legendary or rare drops. And finally, a few smaller alterations to the Crucible have been applied. We won't go into the technicalities here, but if you're eager for more details, feel free to visit the official patch notes page.
Do the changes suit your needs, or has the damage already been done? Kick out at the Cryptarch in the comments section below.

I stopped playing for a few days because (I got a WiiU and) I was waiting on this patch. I got lucky with my exotic I found from a legendary engram, but at least now I can hopefully find more legendary weapons.
I'm mostly over Destiny now anyway...it's unlikely I'll progress past level 27. I spent ages working towards getting Bad Juju via the Tolands Legacy exotic bounty and the rifle is awful to me, mainly because the flickering green flames/flashes coming from the gun hurt my eyes...especially in darker rooms. All that's keeping me casually pottering along in the game is the Crucible and having gotten a 2nd exotic bounty (a dubious task) but I'll end up leaving the game altogether before much longer.
Is there going to be a patch where they add a good story? No?
(Walks away).
@Godsire- No but you can buy DLC with the story content they ripped out of Destiny in it. I can't remember the last time I played a game with next to no interactions or character advancement in it...no NPCs with any personality, note even any back and forth between your guardian and the Dinklage ghost...it's a desolate feeling experience.
@Munkyknuts
Yea, I have very little interest in Destiny now. If I want to play a FPS loot fest, I can play Borderlands. Destiny was supposed to be a genre & generation changing gaming experience. Guess not.
And them, shamelessly, ripping out content to sell it as DLC is ridiculous & reeks of Activi$ion whoring out yet another franchise.
@Godsire- yeah Borderlands let you play with friends and had a more rewarding and varied loot system without sacrificing a story...I might not have been a deep story but it was there and characters spoke to one another...I bought into the hype of how revolutionary Destiny would be and I was a fool to do so.
@Munkyknuts I'm pretty sure they left the story open ended to make their game "a 10 year life span" and I agree its complete BS. But with the expansions set to come out - i think that's when they are going to give you more insight on the story. It's rumored to have 10 more story missions, 1 more raid, and maybe a couple maps. I just wish they would have been honest with this instead of giving us a "full" game that's a mystery story - with a raid - and some pvp thrown in to keep you playing in between.
Not the case. Always. I just bought a green engrams to waste some glimmer and I got white crap.
@AD-80 While the story was left open ended there is still clearly a lot missing and there is pretty compelling evidence that there was more story in the game at an earlier stage. There are hooks in the narrative of Destiny that are clearly setting up arcs for later in the series but that still doesn't excuse how terrible the writing in the game is, how lacking in interaction it is or how little of the rich mythology of the game can only be glimpsed via the grimoire cards...there are some beautifully thought out and designed ideas in them, if even a quarter of that had made it into the game it would have been a richer a fuller experience.
Within minutes of playing I finally got my.first legendary. Despite being a level 24 and playing for over 20 hours, I lucked out every bloody time...
@AhabSpampurse it might be a long road, I ploughed over 80 hours so far, only just got full legendary armour slots yesterday, at least its now improved.
@Bad-MuthaAdebis it was more so the fact that I'd been teased with purple engrams on numerous occasions. The fact that I scored a purple on the first earth strike mission was vaguely comforting. I've got no qualms walking the long road, just as long as I get a bone thrown my way now and again!
55 hours for me without a single legendary weapon, then I get two dropped within an hour of the patch!
Still enjoying the game either way but just wish I could get a group together to try the raid, think I've seen everything else several times over now.
Yeah, I've had zero purple engrams that work for my hunter class, I've had to buy everything with crucible marks and strange coins. Ridiculous.
@Bad-MuthaAdebis Yea the "grinding" can be a little ridiculous. Took me WELL into level 20 to finally upgrade items I gained at lv 14, 15, 16 -___- Kinda ridiculous playing against people in the crucible who all have legendary and exotic stuff......
Honestly i got the foolish random upgrades once I started doing more strikes, bounties, etc. I'm considering trading this game in, so so so REPETITIVE. Bungie no one loves doing missions 40 times. no one.
@wittypixel It seems some who rabidly defend Destiny do like the endless repetition...but a mind that can enjoy doing the same things on a loop is a mystery to me. I'm still lightly playing Destiny mainly for the crucible now and because I got a 2nd exotic weapon bounty yesterday. I've never been on a raid yet as I've not got 5 friends who have time to play the Vault of Glass. Seems mad that a huge chunk of game play that people seem to agree is best part of Destiny is bereft of matchmaking options.
@DeWiz I've not done any raids either and I'm at about 100hrs, so I've seen most things in the game a lot.
I'm told the Vault of Glass is the game at its best...Shame their isn't a matchmaking option for it, having to go recruiting strangers yourself just nets you the same result anyway but takes ages.
I know i'm in the minority but i never had a problem with the loot system the way it was but that's enough about that and the whole loot system in general. Now can we please sort out some sort of ingame messaging system i'm sick of using the playstation app on my phone...
@Munkyknuts try using Bungie's website to find people, maybe join Shadow Ravens clan. Thats what I did and finding a raid is pretty easy, I found a group really quick and finished the raid in 2 hours. There is loads of people that are looking for one or two more people to raid or do the nightfall with. I would like to see all the content in matchmaking myself so there's something we agree on at least about Destiny. I think not adding matchmaking to end game was Bungies cheap way of making the game last longer tbh because if nightfall and the raid were in matchmaking pretty much everybody would of smashed current content that Bungie hoped would last months. Current content was easiely doable in a few weeks (pre loot patch) no problem.
@xMEADx I'm sure there are various things we agree on about Destiny, the loot system just ended up being a point of heated argument amongst gamers, us included. At this point I can't progress any further without getting the gear from raids that has a higher light rating so I'll have to try finding raid buddies from Bungie as you suggested. I have people I've met during doing the strike playlists on my friends list, but even then it's really difficult to co-ordinate everyone being available at the same time.
@Munkyknuts Agreed, without a doubt the hardest thing about the raid is finding 5 other people to complete it with, not the actual raid itself.
