Re: Review: SEGA Mega Drive Classics (PS4)

Manic7Muppet8

Really enjoyed the Megadrive Collection on the PS3. However, think the omission of Revenge of Shinobi (my favourite of the Shinobi games), Eternal Champions (which is by far a better beat 'em up than the Megadrive version of Virtua Fighter 2, IMO), as well as the games omitted from the PS3 version is probably enough to put me off purchasing this immediately.
Think I'll wait for this to drop in a PSN Sale.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 196

Manic7Muppet8

Currently trying for the Platinum Trophy on Until Dawn, hopefully will have that sorted this weekend. Been getting really into MLB The Show 17 again, particularly the Diamond Dynasty mode, so will be playing some of that this weekend. Also need to crack on with Persona 5 and could do with picking up Destiny 2 again.

Re: Review: WWE 2K18 (PS4)

Manic7Muppet8

Last WWE 2K game I owned was 2K14 on PS3 and I thought that was awesome. Have always been a fan of WWE games since the PSOne era (when they were still WWF) so I am tempted to purchase this one...

Re: Soapbox: No Man's Sky on PS4 Is the Biggest Disappointment of 2016

Manic7Muppet8

NMS was always going to be one of those games that polarised opinions.
I pre-ordered the game and was hyped for it - hell, NMS was one of the reasons I decided to upgrade to a PS4 in the first place.
I'm absolutely loving this game - I have no regrets about purchasing it and one I can see myself putting many hours into.
Hats off to Hello Games for having a vision and seeing it through.
I can understand how some people have an issue with the price at launch - I personally do not, but then again I personally take issue with paying £40-50 for a game which then expects me to pay an additional £40 for a "Season Pass" - I just hope that Hello Games stay true to their plan to add additional features via patch updates and not look to premium DLC...

Re: Talking Point: Should Sony Ditch PS3, Vita Support for PlayStation Plus?

Manic7Muppet8

I never bothered with PS Plus while I had my PS3 and Vita - only subscribing to it since getting a PS4. I still have both my PS3 and Vita and I have certainly taken advantage of the PS Plus discounts and some of the free monthly games.
I'm personally not that bothered if PS Plus support is dropped for PS3 and Vita - my concern echoes others on this comment thread in Sony dropping network support for these consoles - I have over 20 games downloaded from PSN on my Vita and over 50 games downloaded from PSN on my PS3 HDD (I put a 1TB in it 3 years ago). To lose access to these games after years of supporting PS3 and Vita would be a kick in the teeth...

Re: Deus Ex: Mankind Divided Is Done and Dusted

Manic7Muppet8

Deus Ex: Human Revolution was one of my all time favourite games on last gen, so the sequel certainly has me interested.
Slight downside is I've already pre-ordered No Man's Sky, so with this and the other games I have sat in my backlog, I'm a little reluctant to go out and get Mankind Divided day one.
I might wait and see if they release a "Director's Cut" down the line and get it then - plus gives me time to replay Human Revolution.

Re: Metal Gear Solid May End Up Being a Mobile Franchise, Says Konami

Manic7Muppet8

Konami were behind some of the games that were an influential part of my childhood and young adulthood... Personally, I'm gutted at this news.

Looks like EA end up winning the football franchise contest by default... and just as Konami were finally getting it right with PES.

Looks like the only other thing I can say on the subject is this...

"Sayōnara Konami - Thanks for the memories."

"p.s. I won't wish you the best for the future - doubt there'll be much of one for you..."

Re: Bloodborne Sales Are Off to a Bloody Good Start

Manic7Muppet8

In all honesty, Bloodborne is the first game on PS4 that has tempted me to throw down money and make the upgrade from my PS3.

I'm going to wait a while though, before making the move to PS4. In my opinion the PS4 needs some more interesting and unique games released on it and not just more HD remasters.

Re: Talking Point: Is This the End for the PlayStation 3?

Manic7Muppet8

I've owned a PS3 since it launched in the UK, and the last 8 years have been great.

I've been gaming on Sony consoles since the original PlayStation - in terms of the home consoles, I've been gaming on each for the following length of time:
PSOne - 4 years
PS2 - 5 years
PS3 - 8 years

I am resigned to the fact that the PS3 is in its twilight years, so it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Getting 8 years of great gaming out of the console is impressive in itself, when compared to the previous two home consoles...

Will I buy a PS4? At the moment... No.

There just aren't enough games peaking my interest enough for me to drop £300 - £400 on the PS4...

A lot of the games I'm interested in that released on PS4 have been released on PS3 also, so no incentive to move generations...

I'm going to watch what happens over the next 12 months with the PS4, both in terms of games and price, before I commit to a purchase. Remastered re-releases of games only a couple of years old on PS3 are not enough to sway me to go next-gen with Sony's console, especially when the asking price of such games is £40-£50, Metro Redux being the exception price-wise.

In the meantime, I've got a huge backlog of great PS3 games to play, and a Wii U with some potentially huge games releasing later this year, and an already impressive (albeit smaller) collection of games...

Re: Talking Point: How Important Is Game Length?

Manic7Muppet8

I think it purely depends on the game.

I bought Civilization Revolution for PS3 on launch for £40, a game of which you can finish in around 4 hours, but the replay-ability of the game is huge, and one I still pick up and play today!!

I enjoyed Alien: Isolation, but the length of the campaign almost ruined the experience for me, with some sections that infuriated me due to it's repetition of tasks, or deciding to go off on an unnecessary tangent.

I have countless RPG's and open-world games sat in my backlog, whilst I will eventually get round to playing them, huge games can be a bind and difficult to stick with, unless they have a deeply involving story, or a fun pick up & play style.

Fallout 3 and The Elder Scrolls games, in my opinion, are classic examples of games that get the balance right. You can tank along the main story over several hours - to replay again at a later date, or you can spend weeks to months exploring off the beaten track to see what you can discover.

I remember Dishonored causing a similar uproar to The Order: 1886 on its release, with reports that the game could be finished in around 6 hours. Yet as people started playing the game more, discovering its intricacies and its "playground" play-style (just search for Dishonored creative kills on Youtube for examples), it became more than about just a short game length, and on this basis I chose to buy it shortly after launch.

I guess time will tell with The Order, but I can understand why some people are a bit upset about paying out a considerable amount of money for a game that is short in length, especially if there's little replay-ability in it.

Re: Talking Point: Has Persona 5's Gameplay Trailer Dulled Your Excitement for Final Fantasy XV?

Manic7Muppet8

FF15 does look amazing, but for me it's an easier decision to make... By default I'll be picking up Persona 5, as out of the two games that's the one releasing on PS3.

My PS3 & Vita games backlog is too large to consider complicating it further with the purchase of a PS4 (plus the Wii U has some really promising releases this year that will likely take up my time).

While I wait for Persona 5 to release on PS3, I've got Persona 4 Golden, FF VII through X-2 & FF XIII trilogy to keep me busy...

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 43

Manic7Muppet8

Going to be concentrating on Alien: Isolation (PS3) this weekend, really enjoying the game.
If I need to take a break from all the tension may play some Senran Kagura SV on PS Vita or Hyrule Warriors on Wii U.
Still waiting for my pre-ordered copy of Bayonetta 1&2 Special Edition, only despatched yesterday.

Re: Review: Disgaea 4: A Promise Revisited (PlayStation Vita)

Manic7Muppet8

The first Disgaea game I started with was Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention on my Vita - I also picked up Disgaea (PSP) when it was on sale on PSN, following a recommendation from a friend - I love the games but I haven't invested nearly enough time in them to warrant purchasing Disgaea 4 yet - think I'll wait for a price drop on PSN.

Speaking of price drops, @kensredemption Disgaea 3: Absence of Detention is currently on sale for the Vita on the EU PSN Store - might be a good place to start if you don't want to invest full price on a Disgaea game.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 34

Manic7Muppet8

Been playing some FMC2014 and P4G on PSVita. Also been trying to complete AC III story on PS3 over the weekend. Likely will be launching my first online franchise on MLB The Show 14 later this evening on PS3, alongside one of my friends - we're both new to the game but both really enjoying playing it.

Re: Sony: PlayStation 4 to Become Our Main Focus in Japan

Manic7Muppet8

@Jaz007 Fair point - for me its an issue around having only limited shelving space under my TV, plus an advantage to make the next gen console backwards compatible would be I could play my existing PS3 games collection whilst waiting for more games to release on PS4. Also, if the PS4 sharpened up the graphics on the PS3 games like the PS2 did with PSOne games, all the better. I feel backwards compatability would have attracted more people who don't have a PS3 to the PS4, as there would already be a substantial lineup of great games for the console.

Re: Sony: PlayStation 4 to Become Our Main Focus in Japan

Manic7Muppet8

I think Sony's two biggest mistakes have been not making the PS3 backwards compatible with PS2 games (with the exception of the first wave of consoles that had limited PS2 game compatability - mine broke just out of warranty) and not making the PS4 backwards compatible with PS3 games. If Sony had made the PS4 able to play PS3 games, they would have encouraged a lot of existing PS3 players to make the upgrade to PS4, myself included.
