@Rudy_Manchego Nothing wrong with trying the demo yourself and then waiting for reviews before making a decision (especially if you think you'll like it). Well unless of course you wanna experience it more as a whole.
I've downloaded the demo and probably gonna take a quick break from Persona 5 to play it later today. Prey is one of my most anticipated games this year, so it'll be interesting to see how the first hour plays out. Hope the story/narrative/characters aspects are better than in Dishonored.
@bighal I don't think it's quite fair to compare Witcher 3 to Soulsborne games. I mean combat is the very foundation of those games, while in Witcher 3 it's just one of the elements of the bigger picture (still it's mostly servicable to good).
Witcher 3 for me hands down. I gotta say that the RPG library on PS4 is looking real solid now after the lacklustre start, several really strong titles out there. I'd argue that the list is missing Deus Ex: Mankind Divided though.
Good to hear! Prey is one of my most anticipated releases this year. And they have also just released a rather lenghty (3 levels) demo of Dishonored 2.
@get2sammyb This is why i like Push Square. Where other sites just post a video like "yeah here it is, check it out, whatever" you guys actually provide subjective opinions to those small bits of news, which I appriciate.
I wonder if they will be able to continue the story in an interesting way, since a large portion of the narrative focused on discovering what happened to the world.
In terms of gameplay (besides improving human AI) I'd love to fight that huge spidery thing that rests in the mountains!
I wouldn't expect miracles, but it seems in a few months this game could be reasonably improved and the price will drop too, so I may check it out then.
Cool, I'll check it out. I'm still interested in it due to the setting, time period, music and supposedly strong story. Hopefully they will be able to excel in the more story-focused DLCs and then release some sort of definite edition down the line.
Setting aside the animation and horrid looking faces, a lot of the early impressions regarding the writing and characters are pretty negative and that's REALLY worrying as it'll probably make or brake the game.
EDIT: Speaking of the writing.. potential spoilers I guess
@xMEADx @ellsworth004 It's a really great game. IMO most of the criticism it gets is overblown. It really rewards you if you put your time into it in terms of exploration, the setting and lore, but can also be enojyed just in terms of the gameplay and the sheer number of options available to you.
Wonder if Squenix will release the main game with all the DLC at some point. Ideally I'd like them to incorporate the first two in the main game, since they take place during the main campaign anyway.
Watching the IGN First video "Touring the Tempest and Meeting the Crew " right now. I'm not usually the one to harp on those things but I seriously can't get over how bad the human character models look like. Terrible hair, wierd expressions and lips movement, dead eyes...I don't wanna even compare it to the level of Witcher 3 or Horizon, in places it arguably looks worse than Inquistion (again, just talking about the character models, environments look fine). I know the crew here made a little fun of it during the last podcast but man...I feel like it's getting worse the more we see.
To me this is the best video yet, since all they've shown up to this point were combat scenarios and some rather unimpressive gameplay slices. I'm glad that this is not shaping up to be just another corridor shooter and there's an important exploration aspect in place. I still get a lot of Inquisition vibes, but I guess only time will tell whether this one has more meaningful content.
Thanks for the answer. I feel generally encouraged by the praise the game is getting for its story, quests and lore. Seems like it could be really interesting and fun if approached with reasonable expectations.
So having finished the story would you say that it at least kinda-sorta makes sense that the machines that took over the world look like dinosaurs or other animal forms?
One of my most anticipated games of the year. I'm pretty sure they'll nail the gameplay aspect, I just hope they can improve the narrative and storytelling department that seems lacking in Dishonored games.
It's because the first three were not open world games.
I wouldn't even consider DA:I to be an open world game (altough most would call it that). Never really felt like an open world, just some bigger and smaller levels.
I feel the same way after playing the demo and watching this. There is some charm to it I guess but I'm pretty much sure by now this one will not for me.
Agreed, but then again their statement isn't really that strong, they "observed what other games like Witcher 3 are doing", that's fine but how will that influence their game in the end?
Would be funny if the parts of Witcher 3 that they have "observed" and implemented turned out to be things like smuggler caches, bandit camps and monster nests (I think they actually have the latter two in the game).
Everyone's harping on Inquisition side quests and rightfully so, but lost amid that is the fact that the main quest storyline was totally dull, short and uninspiring too . They're saying all the right things now, but I'll believe it when I see it.
There were also some other interesting tidbits from that interview, like the fact that they aiming for a lighter tone, more optimistic bent and supposedly there is no overarching threat this time around.
Watching bits and pieces of this video, trying to avoid story bits (by the way, the photo mode looks amazing for those into this kind of thing). Still have major doubts about the game but I hope I'm wrong all the way. It'd sure be nice to play another gorgeous looking AAA game.
Nice! Does that mean you're in the game? Heard some backers are, though I imagine it must be an exclusive group of those who contributed the most.
Planescape is probably my favorite game ever, so I don't expect this new game to reach anywhere near those heights, but it could still bloody well be a great game.
Torment: Tides of Numenera comes out this month too. I hope RPG lovers are not sleeping on this one. It is an isometric old school RPG and a spiritual succesor to Planescape Torment, one of the best and most unique games ever released. All the recent hands on previews were very positive indicating it could be a game many (I guess/hope) were waiting for. A true RPG experience (in contrast to many modern titles) with a rich story, moral ambiguity, colorful characters, multiple ways to approach quests (supposedly you can complete it without killing anyone), totally unique setting and a certain dose of quirkiness.
I think some other previews also mentioned that the game overall runs well, but suffers a bit during encounters with the Tallnecks.
Guerilla claims they have adressed it:
In IGN UK’s preview of Horizon Zeron Dawn from the recent media event, they noticed that performance on a standard PS4 dropped when facing the Tallneck. To clear up any worries, Technical Director Michiel Leeuw said, “Mentioned performance drops were only in preview code, fixed in Gold Master.” The build IGN played was a week or so old, and Leeuw says the “US event had one without the framedrops. Last-minute fix.”
I'm really encouraged by the overwhelmingly positve hands-on impressions posted around the web. Most people seem not only to like it and find it promising but straight on love it. Also like the fact that some pointed out that it really is an RPG after all.
More worriesome are the Far Cry comparisons, the clustered UI and the overall structure of the open world (I'd really like it to offer something different, but it seems will get the generic bases and hunts).
Also (and I know I'm nitpicking here) ..why the hell the tribsemen sound so "modern" (for a lack of a better word) 1000 after the collapse of humanity?? The bearded guy on the bridge especially sounds likes some bored hipster dude.
Don't want to sound overly dramatic but it's probably one of the the worst game-related news for me. I was worried it's gonna happen given all the rumors swirling around and the reportedly weak sales, but it's a real shame. Would be easier to cope with if the last game brought a kind of closure for the series, but it's the exact opposite.
Having just played through Dishonored 2 (after finishing the first one and the DLCs) I'm very much looking forward to Prey. One of my most anticipated releases of 2017 for sure.
That was a different game. This one here is new, not a remaster of Dark Corners of the Earth (though I hope they implement something like the sanity meter in DCotE).
Same here, love Lovecraftian horror so I really, REALLY hope this game is good. Not sure about the developer though, it's not like their track record is all that impressive.
@AhabSpampurse Didn't really expect to ever see Ligotti's name mentioned on a video game site, props
Curious to so how it will turn out. Years ago basically any news of a new Bioware game had me exicted and confident it'll be great. After their recent streak I'm more cautious. Inquisition WAS a solid game but also a huge dissapointment, where the negatives (the MMO-type quests, collectibles, short main quest with a terrible story, choices and consequences) ultimately outweight the positives (some interesting characters, nice graphics, dragons).
Finally managed to get the limited edition a couple of weeks ago and I'm currently playing the original Dishonored for the first time and having much fun. Such a shame that Dishonored 2 and Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, great games that could fall in the "immersive sim" category did so poor sales wise, at least from what little we know so far.
I'm really intrigued what Arkane will do with the upcoming Prey though.
To me TLOU was a totally immersive experience. Everything made sense (from exploration and a simple crafting system to the intense violence of the encounters) and even though the story WAS predictable and not that original or inventive, the characters were really strong, most of them felt real and the dialogues and relationship were expertly delivered. What's more, the morally ambiguous nature of the game is something that I really appriciated, wish more games would open up to treating gamers as mature individuals.
I have a quick questions: From my understanding only the limited edition of this game contains the code for the first Dishonored, but I've also heard people saying it goes with all the copies. Anyone could clarify this? Thanks in advance.
Terrible combat is a staple of TES by now. Says a lot of the overall quality of the series that it doesn't detter that much from the overall experience.
I get that, especially when it comes to most multiplatform titles. The fact remains that with Pro you're basically buying a full priced updated console mid generation, and what you're going to get is higher resolution, better framerate and some graphical bells and whistles. If you have money to spare then it's cool, but for me it just doesn't justify the purchase.
I'm also worried that this "updating" will become a standard from now on, as (most?) people seem to be ok with this.
I'm surprised by the amount of positive responses to the Pro. I get that it can offer a somewhat significant update, but we're talking about a full priced "updated" console 3 years into the generation. If you have a 4K TV and a lot of money, then yeah why not, but in other cases I just don't see how the upscaled 1080p and some graphical effects plus higher frame rate justify this purchase.
But my main gripe is that I'm pretty sure in the end it will be just "bells and whistles", not taking full advantage of the new, more powerful system, as games will be designed with the basic PS4 in mind.
Everybody's entitled to their own opinion and all but damn...You must be really into this "create your own character" thing, as it seems the only logical reason I can come up with liking Inquisition more than the Witcher.
Very nice read, reflects a lot of questions and concerns I have for Skyrim. I'm probably gonna get it at some point for sure (not gonna pay full price for a 5 yer old game with a paintjob). In general, I feel like this remaster is something of a wasted opportunity, especially considering ESVI is supposedly not in development yet).
@kyleforrester87
I tend to think that a lot of dislike for Geralt as a character is a direct result of the gruff, tough guy voice acting. In my opinion the original Polish voice actor Jacek Rozenek is almost perfect in making Geralt more relatable. He's heavily sarcastic, can be tough, but can also be more human and gentle, which I think is a better representation of the Geralt from the books.
Aahh Divinity...What a quirky, yet stellar game. Currently giving it a second playthrough after quitting 30 hours in the first time. Never could totally immerse myself in this world and characters, yet there is no question of the overall quality and originality of this game.
I've watched some of the videos and while there's an improvment in terms of the environments, lighting and such, it seems NPCs look (and act) virtually the same, and the towns feel empty (dissapointing, considered a game like the first Witcher introduced changes to the NPCs years ago with a free Enhanced Edition). Also, watching a comparison video between X360 and X1 it seems the loading times while entering a building are virtually the same. I didn't expect no loading times, but c'mon...
I guess that the main selling points of a modern Bethesda RPG just don't appeal to me that much anymore. The whole "go anywhere and create your own stories" thing sure sounds enticing, but I feel like in the end you become this generic savior character in a quite barren open world (at least by today's golden standard) with a lack of compelling narrative (pretty much the staple of all Elder Scrolls games), tons of fetch quests and clunky combat. Yeah you can buy a house and join a guild, but so what? I dunno, maybe I'm just too harsh on them, but my view on their games has soured over the years.
As a fan of RPGs this should be no brainer for me, right? I played Morrowind and Oblivion in the past, but I skipped the last console generation altogether and didn't have a capable PC, so I've never played Skyrim. Still, I'm worried that it may turn out to be a largely dissapointing experience in the post Witcher 3 era.
@mantralux They don't assume you're stupid enough to not know that, it's not personal. What they're saying is that they didn't shy away from the problems of the era (and problems of today). Since games rarely tackle serious issues it wouldn't be to far fetched to see a totally watered down representation of American south in 1968. They decided to represent it realistically while telling us "We find the racist beliefs, language, and behaviours of some characters in the game abhorrent". Should such comment be necessary? Probably not. Is it necessary? Well, judging from some reactions it's damn well safer for them to include it.
@Kage_88 Yeah and? There's a reason they did it. I've seen an article before release entitled something like "Is Mafia 3 racist?" or something like that (found it here http://www.morningledger.com/mafia-3-game-racist/13109067/). I can imagine a bunch of clueless people outraged at some things happening in the game. That's the world we live in unfortunately.

Re: Video: Should You Buy Mafia III for Your PS4?
@Kage_88 Yeah and? There's a reason they did it. I've seen an article before release entitled something like "Is Mafia 3 racist?" or something like that (found it here http://www.morningledger.com/mafia-3-game-racist/13109067/). I can imagine a bunch of clueless people outraged at some things happening in the game. That's the world we live in unfortunately.

@mantralux Why did it put you off exactly?
Re: The Witcher Dev's Cyberpunk 2077 Is Now in Full Development
Deus Ex series has it's own flavor, I hope Cyberpunk finds it's own identity. Looking forward to it!
