October is well and truly packed with new PlayStation 4 releases, but we reckon that there's still just enough room for notable remasters - especially when one of the most successful role-playing games of all time is being brought forward to the current generation.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim - Special Edition is out on the 28th October - the same day as World of Final Fantasy, Titanfall 2, and Dragon Ball XenoVerse 2, by the way - and Bethesda has revealed that the title's just gone gold. It'll weigh in at 20GB in North America, and 33GB in Europe. We assume that the difference in size is down to the inclusion of multiple European languages.
Featuring mod support as well as enhanced graphical effects and visuals across the board, are you excited to dive back into Skyrim? Maybe this will be your first time in the frozen North of Tamriel? Let us know if you're feeling adventurous in the comments section below.

I'm just waiting patiently for some gameplay from this version to see how much it's improved.
Will there be mods available on day one or do we have to wait?
@mrobinson91 Don't expect it to be anything different to how it originally was on the PS3. They are just using the PC version at 1080p with some visual updates.
Wow, only 20GB in USA...that seems kinda small for this kind of game. I have the complete edition for PS3 and I would have thought PS3 would be near that already. For PS4 with hi-rez textures, I was expecting almost 40GB.
I can't wait! I'm super excited to see this on the PS4 Pro...
@GBMatthew I am expecting it to be different to the PS3 version visually/performance
As a fan of RPGs this should be no brainer for me, right? I played Morrowind and Oblivion in the past, but I skipped the last console generation altogether and didn't have a capable PC, so I've never played Skyrim. Still, I'm worried that it may turn out to be a largely dissapointing experience in the post Witcher 3 era.
@mrobinson91 I'm fairly certain they've already released gameplay footage... ?
No SKSE, no SkyRe/PerMa. I hope something similar surfaces.
That game needs mods to fix the balance.
@GamerDad66 Skyrim isn't as huge and diverse as some more recent games.
All they've done here is brush up on the engine and some textures.
The difference between remastered and original pc version:

@Lurker Yes, Skyrim is a fantastic game and everyone should at least try it. The gameplay is MUCH better than Oblivion, although while I feel it takes a major step forward, there are a couple of steps back. Mostly the quests surrounding the guilds (thieves guild, mages/College, Fighters/whatever they called it in Skyrim). I just don't feel like the questlines are as good for them.
For me Skyrim is still hands down the best RPG I have ever played (I have played a lot). Getting the remaster also got it on PC even though my pc can not play it. Still have it on PS3.
@lurker for me witcher 3 is no where near as good as skyrim.
I spent over a hundred hours on the xbox 360 version of Skyrim,was one of the lucky few that had only a few bugs and glitches too.Absolutely loved this game and this new version would look amazing on my new 49 inch Samsung TV but there is just so much coming out I don't think I'd ever get the time to play it,I struggle as it is to keep up with games these days..
I have this pre-ordered. I LOVED Skyrim on my 360 and I'm stoked to play it on my PS4. My only prayer is (that it doesn't have too many bugs obviously) that the load times are quicker.
I want it! For the love of God be 30fps fixed. Any chance of a prerelease review i wonder?
Can't wait! I really hope there won't be any console performance issues..
The Witcher III performs beautifully on the PS4.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi from what I remember there is about 10 seconds from the E3 announcement. Maybe I'm wrong though
@kyleforrester87 Hopefully! We'll try and let you know before hand if we can.

@ShogunRok good stuff!!
Cant wait to play this again. Played it on the 360 last time so hoping it runs ok on the ps4. Story was naff but its still one of the best games ive played ( after morrowind and oblivion though ). The mod thing doesnt interest me I just want to sink another few hundred hours in on it.
I cant wait for this which is sad cuz i put it down after awhile cuz I got bored with. Then of course I jus got the sudden urge to play it the other day. So here it goes, dropping full price dollars AGAIN for skyrim. Im okay with it though...better be super friggin pretty man, like fo real!
@GBMatthew actually it is alot different, digital foundery did a analysis on it and certain assets were completely replaced with objects with higher ploly counts , among other things.
It's a cracking RPG, I hope I enjoy it as much again after playing The Witcher 3. Gods be praised.
@BladeRider I think a lot of people are in for a bit of a disappointment on this one, after all it is a Bethesda game. As I previously mentioned it's 1080p at 30hz? with the same textures. Yes I also read that article 'improved by new assets; plants, mushrooms, stones and extra trees are more liberally dotted around' plus an added depth of field with an overuse of the bloom effect by the looks of it. FXAA is also used which is great because that means it will look like we have Vaseline smeared across our screens. I may well be proven wrong and it turns out to be a truly remarkable remaster for a change we'll see.
@Lurker - I actually played Skyrim again a few months back and I think it really holds up well. The exploring is still top notch.
@Splat @dryrain @ztpayne7
I guess that the main selling points of a modern Bethesda RPG just don't appeal to me that much anymore. The whole "go anywhere and create your own stories" thing sure sounds enticing, but I feel like in the end you become this generic savior character in a quite barren open world (at least by today's golden standard) with a lack of compelling narrative (pretty much the staple of all Elder Scrolls games), tons of fetch quests and clunky combat. Yeah you can buy a house and join a guild, but so what? I dunno, maybe I'm just too harsh on them, but my view on their games has soured over the years.
ULTRA stoked, never played any of the DLC the first time through amd am ready to experience it all again.
I have a feeling this disc will not be ejected by my PS4 for a loooong time. It's a dream come true
